In the Iberian Peninsula, they don't speak only Spanish. Even without considering the co-official languages of the Spanish state: They do not speak Spanish in Portugal. There were people in Spain before the Iberians. Even before the Gaul. There have been people in the Peninsula since before the Neanderthal.

There are several issues with this video. First of all, the use of the word "Spain" in the title is problematic, as Spain as a state didn’t exist until at least the 18th century, let alone in pre-Roman times. Additionally, it is completely incorrect to claim that "all this area," referring to the Iberian Peninsula, spoke Castilian. This has never been the case. Disappointing… It could have been a great video about an interesting topic.

There were two great waves of people who spread into Europe, largely replacing the inhabitants who were living there. First, the Anatolian Farmers, spreading over Europe from 6500 BC to 4000 BC, largely due to the number of people who can be supported with even early farming. Second, the Steppe people, spreading over Northern Europe, and to a lesser extent, Southern Europe from 3000 BC to 2500 BC, largely due to bringing the plague which they had some resistance to. It was the Steppe people who brought in the Indo-European languages. Had the Steppe people not come we would likely be talking of the Anatolian language family group being the dominate language group of modern Europe. So I would assume that the people of Spain around 700 BC likely spoke languages of the Anatolian language group, which has been lost.

You don't mention Tartessian language at all. Why?! Tartessian is an extinct Paleo-Hispanic language found in the Southwestern inscriptions of the Iberian Peninsula, mainly located in the south of Portugal (Algarve and southern Alentejo), and the southwest of Spain (south of Extremadura and western Andalusia). There are 95 such inscriptions, the longest having 82 readable signs. Around one third of them were found in Early Iron Age necropolises or other Iron Age burial sites associated with rich complex burials. It is usual to date them to the 7th century BC and to consider the southwestern script to be the most ancient Paleo-Hispanic script, with characters most closely resembling specific Phoenician letter forms found in inscriptions dated to c. 825 BC. Five of the inscriptions occur on stelae that have been interpreted as Late Bronze Age carved warrior gear from the Urnfield culture.

I’m not sure I’d classify words such as “perro” as loan words. If those words have a continuity of use by the people living in that area, but they have been adapted to the new grammar of an incoming language, such as Latin, then they haven’t been loaned. Words that have come into Spanish from Arabic would fit the idea of loan words more closely, I think.

Arroyo -> stream. Portuguese national here. Born and raised in Lisbon. I grew up in a Lisbon neighbourhood called Arroios. It was named so because, you guessed it, the area had many streams, which were covered and channeled through a tunnel system leading to the Tagus River to allow the area to be developed.

0:26 Using the Palaeologian dynasty bi-headed eagle, isn't the best way to represent the greek language; perhaps the macedonian sun could be better, since U refer to 3rd c. BC. 4:06 I've been tought ancient greek, but I can't understand what types of the verb "esti" are the ones at the 2nd column. 8:44 The above mentioned eagle, isn't the best way to represent the greek language in the medieval era; although a byzantine emblem, perhaps the Byzantine eagle would be better. The word "koine" (κοινή) is prounced "kini"; the "η" initially was a double "e" sound, usually translittered as "e". 9:25 Kurds must be the Karduhi (Καρδούχοι) Xenophon mentions he met with his army of Greek mercenaries, before entering Armenia; therefore, it must be inaccurate that at the same period when the Turks came, the Kurds came also. Ottomans didn't care about education, so, at the beginning of the 20th c. Turks didn't speak the palace language and the vast majority of them didn't know how to write. So, convincing them wasn't difficult. As for the other nations, they were mostly speaking their own languages. Still, even today, there are more than a million people at the region of Pontos (alone), who speak greek (the Pontiac dialect). They are descendants of Greeks who converted to Islam. Many others are speaking other dialects elsewhere.
