    I think I would turn it over and inspect the bearings before I tore it all down. You can tell a lot about general condition. Also if all looks ok you can snug up your bearings if there are sufficient shims to do so. Good luck! Looks like a well done engine from appearances.

    How did the scuffed piston debris make its way to the valve spring area. I haven't seen a pathway from the videos. The debris from the spring area looked to be cast iron swarf from machine mark done and not cleaned out properly. Oil pump and main bearings should have been wiped out from that amount of metal going thru them, rod bearings would have picked some also thru the oil scoops

    • @edselsadventures
      @edselsadventures 21 день назад

      I found the same debris on the bottom of the pan and oil pump screen. I believe it got pumped into the valve chamber and settled where it did due to the design of the valve chamber floor. Bearings all looked good, thanks to it not being a full pressure engine. Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it!

    Looks like someone welded chunks of metal to the rod faces in order to take up the side play resulting from the babbitt-to-insert conversion. I've never seen or heard anything alike - probably for a good reason.

    • @edselsadventures

      @@edselsadventures Well, you probably found out by now, but if I had to guess, this could also be where all the metal shavings came from. I'd have a good look at the welded pieces on the rod caps and see if their surface is scored in any way to make sure this isn't the case.

    I always wanted to ride those swinging cages but they were gone by the time I was big enough. I did come back as a ride operator in the 70's and I worked the ferris wheel. By myself; I didn't have a ticket taker helping. You had to hold on to the chair in case it slipped when people were getting off, you didn't want them thrown onto their faces, and it did happen. I loved the gas powered cars, you got to run and jump on the moving cars to throw on the brake and pull back on the gas. I also drove the cave train. Last year I rode the Giant Dipper roller coaster (for the last time, ouch). And, I threw 3 rings in a row into the clown's mouth on the merry go round! That was also a nice ride to work on, if you didn't mind the constant music. I also miss the fireworks on the 4th of July.

    • @edselsadventures
      @edselsadventures Месяц назад

      Thanks for watching & commenting! It certainly is a Model A engine. The counterweights are welded on by the previous rebuilder (H&H). This is a common modification on touring engines. Model A's all had oil pumps. The pump transfers oil from the pan up to the valve galley which then feeds the cam and mains via gravity. The rods and rest of crank are oiled by a mist created when the rods sweep through the dipper tray that is snapped in to the oil pan.
