In Southampton bus lanes are 24 hours operational, and have NO HOLIDAY breaks. so regardless of date it is still an offence to use a bus lane.

If the Council dish out laws, they should be followed,, That doesn't mean you cannot protest via, emailing councillors and MP's to revise the laws... Some taxi drivers in this city need to loose their licences, they ignore more rules and laws on driving than the public at large.. If his actions are considered dangerous he should be removed, just like drink/drugs drivers. Someone innocent could be injured or killed.

As there are no speed limit signs marking an increase till the Footbridge... AND there's a 20mph sign on the lamppost after the underpass.. I've heard from Councillor and they've confirmed it as 20,,, but it's under review...

I also read: "A 20mph limit area will be defined by a set of residential streets, bounded by main distributor roads - typically, but not exclusively, A-roads - which carry large volumes of cross-city traffic". Therefore I think the link road from Waterloo road to Millbrook Road West shouldn't have been included. Looks like slack execution again of a SCC project.

@@Jackster4505 Well we have to live with what those MAD LABOUR Councillors have dumped on us. But one councillor has confirmed that it is being reviewed, with looking at returning it to 30 from around where Paynes Road, Waterloo Rd Junction stands, to the existing 40mph at the station footbridge. Hope they remember there's a small 20mph on first lamppost after the underpass... It was a foolish idea to leave drivers just 80 feet to accelerate from 20 to 40mph to merge with the dual carriageway.

Nowhere in the Road Traffic act is speeding ever exempted... A magistrate would take a very dim view if you pleaded time is money if it went to court!

I don't agree with speed limits forced on us, but not going to risk my licence either. This channel is to teach people that there are idiots who don't follow the Road Traffics Act and stick two fingers up to the Highway Code, all written to keep road users safe!

It is ridiculous to force cars to accelerate from 20mph to 40mph to merge in a space of about 80 feet. There is no logical reason for that section to even be 20mph, but we are ruled by a Loony Labour Council, that have mismanaged their finances, is trying to drive motorists out the City by traffic jams, stupid speed limits, constant roadworks, new cycle and bus lanes excluding then access to areas.

That's our LOONY left Council for you. As residents many of us are fighting it. But a speed limit broken and caught by Police/Community speed camera, is Fine 3-6 points on licence, increased insurance till the points drop off...

In fact there is a 20MPH sign (small type) just after you go under the underpass on the first lamp-post, so your argument is incorrect. So the 20mph zone extends right up to the 40mph signage at Millbrook station footbridge.

Yep, guy ended up on the wrong lane, realised it to late and got on his way pretty safely. No horns, no braking or whatever, would have been nice if he used the indicators. But looking a the car he was probably out of Blinker fluid.

It's a 20mph limit up to almost the end of the slip road to dual carriageway. My dash cam speed shows between 21-18, which may be slightly off being it uses GPS and I was going under bridge. So what 30mph speed limit are you TALKING ABOUT?

@@SouthamptonDashCamManyou were at 26mph at the end, so were you speeding?! Also undertaking is not illegal in and of itself, only if it constitutes careless driving. In this case using a bus lane is not careless, as you would not reasonable expect the car ahead to move left into the bus lane. I'd also query if that's a 20mph limit, as I saw no signs.

As the section from the 40mph signs to joining the dual carriageway is very short, to prevent harsh acceleration. Yes once I get closer to the 40mph sign, clearly the road has no visible hazards like pedestrians, cyclists I do tend to start to increase just before the actual 40mph signage. But that is to save the need to stand on the accelerator to double my speed to merge with traffic on the dual carriageway.

If you wait right to the 40mph sign to speed up, you have to floor the engine rev's, or join a Dual Carriageway well below the speed limit... I can see and increase in accidents joining the dual carriageway.

No omitted that, as it seems to be a foregone conclusion that cyclists are allowed to do that, despite the highway code being clear. I don't know about elsewhere, but cyclists go completely UN-CHECKED in Southampton.

I have tackled Hampshire Constabulary on Cyclists going through red lights, and in the winter, riding in dark clothing at night WITHOUT lights. But it all falls on deaf ears.

But if Police caught you driving on red light even with bike you can get Felnsburg Punkte in Germany! And in Germany the Police can also forbid you to drive bicycles. "Fahrradfahrverbot".

Yes Shirley is a bane of pavement parking! As a disabled person, who sometimes uses a mobility scooter, we are expected to switch to low power (4mph max) when on pavements. Yet a cyclist like this one is well over 10mph and could do some serious damage if they collide with a pedestrian. Southampton Council and Police have done little to discourage parking issues and cyclist problems for years and now it's out of control.

I am sure that they didn't install a subway footpath, and a traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing, with a three foot plus barrier on the central reservation, for people to run across 3 live lines, climb over a high barrier and then cross another 3 live lanes. I am sure there is something in the small print of the highway code that covers this as being unsuitable.

what do you mean by this, the loops? I came close a couple of times, went through on amber and I'm confident it turned to red just after my vehicle had crossed the stop line. So I should be ok. I mean if they gave everyone tickets for doing this, no-one would be on the road! Ideally though as a new driver I should be more careful.

@@Mike.Cebert It is a loop of wire acting as an aerial buried in the tarmac. It detects the metal of your vehicle when you drive over it & sends the information to the roadside computer cabinet. Surely you must've seen these in the road?

@@1harryrobert and is that ANY part of your vehicle? So for example, if say the first half of your car passes through the amber but then it turns red and there's a small part of your car that still hasn't, how do they deal with that? I thought it has to be clear that both the front end and back end of the vehicle has to pass the stop line when it is red? Otherwise how will they get your number plate? Also with this offence, is it a advisory course available to take as opposed to getting points (if it's a first offence)?

To highlight like many of my postings, how poor Southampton especially is regarding driving standards, and people simply failing to obey the rules of the Highway Code and Road Traffics Act! Road signs like No-Right turns are there because the Highways and Council have deemed that manoeuvre in the past there has led to it being a black spot for accidents. By law these two drivers have committed the offence of Driving Without Due Care and failing to obey traffic signs, both come with hefty fines and endorsement points on Driving Licence.
