This story proves that even those who experience atrocities may not understand the nature of those atrocities. Arn Chorn-Pond frames his story as surviving the evil Khmer Rouge against a beautiful humanitarian United States. What he either doesn't know, or is hiding, is that it was the beautiful humanitarian United States that funded and supported the leader of the Khmer Rouge, none other than the murderous Pol Pot. This was one of the CIA's most masterful strokes to discredit the socialialist and communist movements sweeping the world at that time. Pol Pot was no socialist; he was a fascist, like the leaders in the beautiful humanitarian United States have become.
