the producer of akb48 chose her because she was actually the least “center worthy” of all the other girls during early akb48, she was a awkward 14 year old girl with average skills but akimoto yasuhi saw potential in her and decided to promote her as a center

@@adamtahman she didnt fail per se, she was always popular but she got the push since 2008 and only ranked higher when the actual top girls left and all. she was pushed next to acchan even before their heydays and she just blossomed way later. compared to the push she was getting, her overall popularity was just meh. her actual rival was rena but in akb it was either paruru or sakura, whom joined the gorup way later. the push she was getting earlier, most ori kami7 didnt even had. for more context: she was suddenly made the center place in 2008, then a double center with acchan, always was a front girl, acchan graduated and she double centered uza (first single without acchan and "second chapter in akb"), second or third girl in team k before yuko and tomochin graduated, then she became team k center too. mariko never had a proper a-side single other than the janken single, tomochin never had a solo center, yukirin didnt have a center until way later, mayuyu wasnt pushed when acchan was around, she got more management selection centers than yuko etc. but yet only made it to kami 7 during 5th senbatsu elections. not to mention sasshi happened so she didnt even get jurina-mayu narration during uza. she was just surpassed by other members, despite being narrated as the top girl, next center, carrying akb etc etc....well until everyone who were relevant to public started to graduate. then she grabbed the #1 her heavy push also alienated some akb fans so her main fans were from ske, so that kinda backfired. her getting less pushed in akb would give you the same results at some point but ofc she did not fail. so her push was failed but she didnt fail. because she worked hard and kept her fans around and added more, worked had despite being around for so long and watched everyone else around her graduate. so she was succesful. she earned her win and didnt fail, despite of her push, and the casualty around it I should say. overall she was really a nice girl, so we kinda ignore that and think her as the great jurina

you wouldn't get it at first but the more you watched AKB's content during their golden gen era then you'll understand why. There were many reasons tbh but the most prominent one was that she shines without outshining the other members when she's in the center/zero position

Several reasons. One of them was her mega-watt smile. Even Yuko, the #2 girl told Acchan: All we need is your smile. Another: Her aura, the whole package. Also her voice: rather thin, not powerful but very distinctive. Listen to her solo rendition of "Sakura no Hanabiratachi" and you'll understand.

sakura began to get popular in akb around 2014 and then produce 48 happened in 2018 and sakura did not return to akb after izone, so she was only popular in the group for about 4 years. in comparison, Acchan was in the group for 6 years, Yuko 8 years, Kojiharu 12 years, Mayuyu 11 years. Not to mention she was competing with Sasshi and Jurina at the time, both had solid fanbases. even if sakura had returned to 48g instead of joining le sserafim, she wouldn’t feature in akb anymore because akb singles only feature akb members now :( but sakura is still killing it, she’s really a legendary member in akb history

But on that single, she was double center with Kojiharu
