Putting Dozer too the Test... Massive Tree!
You can relocate the controller to any convenient location you want. Just make new hoses and remount. . We put are controller on the right hand side of operators seat. It was originally on top of winch. It was originally a #8 we upgraded to a #9 way better in the wet coast environment. As #8s have a open spot in to the brake/PTO lining area. . Be careful not to lug a Detroit at low rpms. It's very hard on them, compared to a 4 stroke. Best to slam your hand in a door before running a Detroit, as it's best not to baby them throttle wize. The hand in door thing, is something I heard from people who ran them daily back in the 60s 0.01c
I believe it's possibly a 21-A gerrett skidder. 3-53 Detroit I believe it was the biggest model with a manual transmission. Everything bigger was a slush box. Should be a gearmatic #19 winch. Parts for it are far more available then the #8 or #9 on are gerrett 15 skidder. Probably be a world of rust and carnage inside the cover. as brake fluid is used to operate the winch. Will have lock, free spool, and line in. Will operate at Standstill, and driving forward, winch will not operate in reverse. That's one big advantage to the automatics is you can line in as you drive backwards. are gerrett 15 can not do that. It has the same ford industrial 172ci engine commonly found in 9n/8n/2n tractors. They did try and stuff a 3-53 in a modified 15 chassis, they gave it a different model, but it had a very serious habit of snapping drive train parts, especially so with chains. . In general, gerrett had a habit of stuffing way big engines in way small machines. basically makeing them capable of breaking parts they gave-em so much power for the time. . When actually putting it under real load don't be afraid of getting on the throttle. Running it soft under load can put holes in the pistons. There entended to be ran like a chainsaw, ABSOLUTELY FLAT OUT. lol.
Good video, I run a 1966 tree farmer with a gearmatic, mine is the pto version so it has gear oil on the front side of the winch as well that is not mixed with the winch gear oil. I have replaced every fluid in mine and every filter, I'm no mechanic by any stretch, but I enjoy tinkering.
Nice work!
I run a 66 tree farmer on my channel. Power modz is a bigger channel that operates similiar stuff. A word of advise if you dont have it already take a piece of steel or copper wire 3' long and make a home made run away kill switch. Next to your blower above the starting Silonoid there is a spring flap, that stays open based on a notch, if you lift the lever the spring closes it, if you dont have a wire from that spring to the cab put one there just incase it runs away pull the wire, and the spring flap closes and stops air from entering the blower kills it within 2 seconds. You can then reset the flap starts like normal. One of those just in case things.
A good time!
I hope you didn't pay more than fifty bucks for it
She’s already sold and down the road. Turned a profit 👍🏻
Nice. How much do you think that log weights?

Lock like Franklin 😅
Could you burn a creosote log to clean it?

You do realize the converter does pull out for cleaning easily, I removed mine permanently because it kept plugging up, didn’t effect performance at all
You’re not burning right if it’s plugging all the time
@@makessenseoutdoors your probably right the thing is I bought the big ashford for putting bigger wood, but living in the Pacific Northwest it often doesn’t get that cold to run it wide open hense the plugging of the catalytic.. I’ll have to give it another try
Blaze King ceramic combustible usually breaks if you try to remove it
@@scottherod2673I ran without the converter for some time fine, but put it back in and now I clean it out with when cold compressed air and that works perfect

Hello from Russia. Your job is great.)))))

Not to bad not bad at all but just saying you live your chains on year around it well wear the tires down quickly an the life of the chains well dumenish rapidly just saying those tire arnt cheap. I do some logging around Gatlinburg TN it's all up an down great video 👍👍👍👍
The guy I bought it from said to leave the chains on year round to preserve the tires 🤷🏼♂️
Nice old skidder! pretty fancy..bucket seat and all!!
Hey mr George how much you pay for the new guy 😂
Looks like a Garrett built skidder...may be a model 20? Probably a Gearmatic 9 winch. The Tree Farmer logo was used by both Garrett and CanCar of Thunder Bay. First time I've seen 10 hole skidder wheels...am familiar with 8's and 12's.
Turns out it’s a mountain logger model d
Got the winch fixed. Replacing water pump now
I’ve got a 65 c-5b tree farmer with 10 hole wheels! Nice unit!

Got a mrs aka s10 with a 200 perkins in it
Might need a tetanus shot too before you get working on it
Got one last year! Let’s goooo
And file your saw it's clearly dull
Idiot...lost many loggers doing just that !
Air chisel works great for stuff like this. I made my own chisel to fit air hammer. Because I needed a longer shank for what I needed to chisel. You can even just lengthen a chisel
Occupational shit happens above lol
Tree was like "if I'm going down I'm taking you with me"😅
Total sketchville 😂
Thanks Alek
Wow! Pretty elaborate! Why not just remove the computer? Then you can run the vacuum over both surfaces. Of course, you do have to replace the gasket, which are overpriced. One other thing you can try, if the catalist still seems exhausted: Get 2-3 gallons of distilled water (NOT TAP!) and 2-3 quarts of white vinegar. Thread a plastic coated wire (such as 16 gauge multistrand) through the combuster to use as a handle. Get an old roasting pan that you will never use for cooking. Mix water and vinegar 50/50. Put enough in the roaster so it would cover the combuster by half an inch or so. Bring to a boil and using the wire handle, lower the catalyst into the boiling solution. Do not allow it to touch the bottom. Rig something to hold the "handle". Turn down the burner to just below boiling and allow the combuster to soak for 30 minutes. DON'T LET THE SOLUTION EVAPORATE TO THE POINT THAT ANY PART OF THE COMBUSTER IS EXPOSED, and don't let it lay on the bottom. Remove the combuster, place on a towel, and discard the dirty solution. Rinse out the pan and add enough clear distilled water to cover the combuster as before, bring the plain water to a boil and put in the combuster as before. Don't let it touch bottom. Reduce heat to just below boiling and keep the combuster in the rinse water for 15 minutes. When it's done, repeat with fresh distilled water. After the second rinse allow the combuster to completely air dry and reinstall with a new gasket. This process can renew nearly exhausted catylists and get another couple of years use out of them.
Nice! will try that if things get bad in the future. So far a cleaning every 3 weeks or so is doing the job.Might have a little to much updraft.
I wonder if he knows that legs work on roofs too?
Get the Knack!
A true case of needing a bigger hammer!
Nice work Alek!
Thanks Carl!
