Eddie Cochran - Twenty Flight Rock
* Ooh, well I got a girl with a record machine
When it comes to rockin' she's the queen
We love to dance on a Saturday night
All alone where I can hold her tight
But she lives on the twentieth floor uptown
The elevator's broken down
So I'll walk one, two flight, three flight, four
Five, six, seven flight, eight flight, more
Up on the twelfth I'm startin' to drag
Fifteenth floor I'm a-ready to sag
Get to the top, I'm too tired to rock
When she calls me up on the telephone
Say, come on over honey, I'm all alone
I said, baby you're mighty sweet
But I'm in bed with the achin' feet
This went on for a couple of days
But I couldn't stay away
So I'll walk one, two flight, three flight, four
Five, six, seven flight...

“Twenty Flight Rock” by Eddie Cochran is a classic rockabilly tune that encapsulates the rebellious energy and infectious rhythm of 1950s rock ‘n’ roll. It was written by Ned Fairchild and is known for its fast-paced tempo, twangy guitar riffs, and Cochran’s charismatic vocal delivery. It became one of Cochran’s signature songs, showcasing his blend of rock, blues, and country influences, and contributing to his reputation as one of the early pioneers of rock ‘n’ roll. The song’s narrative is simple and relatable, telling the story of a guy who is exhausted after climbing twenty flights of stairs to see his girlfriend, only to be too worn out to enjoy the moment. The lyrics are fun and playful, filled with youthful energy and a hint of frustration, capturing the lighthearted, carefree spirit of the rock ‘n’ roll era. Musically, “Twenty Flight Rock” is driven by its upbeat, danceable rhythm and Cochran’s distinctive guitar work. The song’s rapid-fire chord progression and energetic pace give it a sense of urgency and excitement. Cochran’s guitar style, combining rockabilly twang with bluesy undertones, helped set the stage for later rock guitarists, and in this track, his playing is both tight and expressive. Cochran’s vocal performance is equally dynamic, delivered with a casual coolness that resonated with the rebellious youth of the 1950s. His voice carries the swagger and confidence that would later influence countless rock ‘n’ roll acts, including artists like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, who cited Cochran as an inspiration. One of the most significant aspects of “Twenty Flight Rock” is its place in rock history. The song played a pivotal role in the formation of The Beatles when Paul McCartney famously performed it during his first meeting with John Lennon in 1957, impressing Lennon with his ability to remember all the lyrics and leading to his eventual invitation to join Lennon’s band. “Twenty Flight Rock” is a quintessential rockabilly song that captures the youthful exuberance and energy of 1950s rock ‘n’ roll. Eddie Cochran’s electrifying guitar work, catchy melody, and cool vocal delivery make it a timeless classic, and its influence on the early days of rock music is undeniable. The song remains a fun, high-energy track that continues to resonate with rock fans around the world. Goodmorning my friend brother Dimitris, have a blessed and peaceful day🙏

Oscar Peterson's rendition of "Ol' Man River" is a breathtaking instrumental interpretation of the iconic show tune from the musical *Show Boat*, composed by Jerome Kern with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. In this version, Peterson transforms the deeply emotional and somber song into a jazz masterpiece, using his piano to express the profound depth and complexity of the original while adding his own distinct virtuosity and musical creativity. Peterson’s playing is characterized by both technical brilliance and emotional nuance, with his deft fingers delivering a rich tapestry of sound that conveys the weight and flow of the song's central metaphor-the mighty Mississippi River. The steady, rolling rhythm of his piano mimics the river’s slow, unceasing current, while his improvisational flourishes bring a sense of freedom and exploration to the piece. His interpretation captures the gravity of the song's themes, which touch on hardship and endurance, yet he infuses it with the lightness and spontaneity that are hallmarks of jazz. What makes Peterson's version of "Ol' Man River" so remarkable is his ability to blend the song’s inherent melancholy with the dynamic and fluid nature of jazz. He navigates between moments of soulful introspection and bursts of energetic, rhythmic playfulness, giving the piece both emotional depth and a sense of movement. His piano articulates a range of emotions, from the quiet resignation of the original tune to moments of hopeful uplift, making his rendition feel deeply personal and expressive. The arrangement, like many of Peterson's works, is clean and sophisticated, allowing his virtuosic piano to be the focal point. Without the lyrics, Peterson lets the melody speak for itself, using subtle shifts in tempo and dynamics to evoke the song's emotional core. His version of "Ol' Man River" is both a tribute to the enduring power of the original composition and a showcase of Peterson’s extraordinary talent as a pianist and improviser. In this performance, Oscar Peterson brings new life to "Ol' Man River," transforming it into a jazz standard while maintaining the song’s sense of weight and gravitas. His interpretation is a perfect example of how a master musician can honor the spirit of a classic while making it entirely his own. It’s a stunning blend of technical mastery, emotional depth, and creative expression that continues to resonate with listeners, offering a fresh perspective on a timeless song. Thank you brother Dimitris for uploading another musical gem from your golden collection🙏 God bless you🙏

She brings an infectious energy to the performance, capturing the essence of the lyrics, which celebrate a carefree mood and the feeling of happiness when life is looking up. Her delivery feels spontaneous and free, as if she’s smiling through each note, filling the song with an uplifting spirit. Ron Wilson was the kind of wild man that you wanted for a drummer. He came across a kilt, and as there was a rival High School in his town that had a mascot wearing a kilt, he strapped on his bass drum, and jumped in front of their parade, just so he could show off in the kilt. This was actually how he ended up meeting Bob Berryhill, who was attending the other school. Also he was one of the very few who could keep up with the hoboroadie, burning the fat doobies, one after another. 🤘 rip bro

Nice to hear her sing a soft ballad. She is most noted for her powerful, resounding forte performanes, which were vividly recorded on The Ed Sullivan Show and other venues, and are all over RUclips. This song and "Sundown" are my two favorites written and recorded by Gordon Lightfoot, who passed away aged 84 in May of 2023 from natural causes. Vikki Carr is presently 83 years old.
