The CDH Mum - successful nasogastric insertion
I was finally able to capture my attempt at inserting a nasogastric tube in myself, which I do several times a month for my baby who was born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and who has relied on nasogastric feeding since birth.

The CDH Mum - Inserting a nasogastric tube for Alfie
Просмотров 13 тыс.6 лет назад
It’s been a while in between videos so I thought I’d upload this one of Alfie’s nasogastric tube insertion. I had watched Alfie’s nasogastric tube be replaced so many times and I didn’t like having to take him into hospital each time he needed it replaced as sometimes he was kept waiting - once 6 hours - and I didn’t want Alfie to start associating hospitals with being a place where bad things ...
The CDH Mum - New feeding techniques for Alfie due to feeding aversion
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.6 лет назад
Alfie is 4 months old, and had his CDH repair on day 10. After 43 days in hospital Alfie returned home with a nasogastric tube for feeding as he developed a feeding aversion while in hospital. It has been 2 months since we first came home, and Alfie is no closer to showing interest in feeding. Alfie has regular appointments with a speech pathologist who suggested some new feeding techniques to ...

My baby, Alfie, was born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. He has his life-saving repair at 10 days old. Alfie is now 4 months old and is still reliant on a nasogastric tube for feeds as he hasn’t established feeding yet. If you haven’t already, take a look at my other videos relating to Alfie’s journey, on my channel. Thanks for the support!

3:11 call me evil, but that was hilarious how he went from 0 to 10 😂 its always satisfying watching a baby not get their way

How was your transition from the tube to oral feed experience ? My little daughter has feeding aversion and now have the feeding tube. I feel heartbroken and scared, any advise

Hey Andrew. My son has tube for 18 months before he started eating orally. It is definitely an emotional time. You will find yourself trying everything you can possibly think of to get her feeding - I sure did with Alfie. Do lots of feeding therapy but always stop when your daughter shows that she has had enough. Never push her further than she is ready for as it can worsen the aversion. Do you have a speech pathologist and occupational therapist? They are great for providing you with education for feeding therapy. Everyone’s journey is different, but be patient and trust that she will start eating when she is ready. Be her biggest supporter and always advocate for her if you feel she is being pushed too fast or if you can see that she needs a break from feeding therapy. I wish you all the best with your daughters journey to oral feeding :-)

Cutie pie! Why don't you bring the spoon inside his mouth instead of just touching the spoon to his mouth? This way, more food will go in.

Hi Kala, this was done that way as he had a severe oral aversion any if we pushed him further than he was comfortable with during his feeding therapy it would have caused worsening of the aversion. Part of his oral aversion started at around 6 weeks of life when he had bottles repeatedly forced into his mouth by others when we were trying to establish feeding. He was born unable to feed due to his medical condition so was commenced on nasogastric feeds on day 12 of life. In total he was nasogastric tube fed for 18 months and then decided he would try some food after all. He is now about to turn 4 and eats anything in his way :-)
