This means that each time a customer makes a purchase through the affiliate link, the commission is counted for that specific purchase. There is no option to register via an affiliate link and be permanently associated with that affiliate, but with the "Calculate commissions permanently" option enabled, if the user makes a purchase starting from the affiliate link, they will be permanently associated with the affiliate account.
