eMTB Rider
Добавлен 14 фев 2023
Since buying an e-bike, mountain biking has become a passion. I have spent most of my adult life riding Moto-X and enduros. I also compete in Quad enduros
I am now of an age when I only want to ride for fun, and mountain biking has filled that void
I enjoy following the long-forgotten routes from Mountain bike books, before the introduction of the cycle sat nav. However I do use sat nav, as I often plan out the route in advance.
Some routes are difficult others are easy, some are short some are long. I just like riding new trails and visiting new places.
I often link shorter routes together and regularly deviate from the original starting points in the book.
My only reason for a channel is to have a visual log of all the rides I do. By sharing it with others you can decide if it is a ride for you.
Always ride within your own limitations and I wish you all a safe and pleasurable ride
Cheers Shaun

A superb video from an MTB perspective! I just did Clough Lane for the first time yesterday evening in the dark (Jan 21st 2025) the same direction as yourself west to east, in my 4x4 Skoda Yeti - my most technical lane to date in current conditions - very muddy and slippery in places with lots of loose rocks etc in others, and very narrow with decent drops off the side. A huge tree had fallen in a November storm near the eastern end and was recently cleared (well just the middle part blocking the lane and the trunk is over 1m diameter)! I wish I could attach my photo but will return with GoPro to record my trip. 😁 ...Must add that having just subscribed, your videos are an inspiration and make me want to get back into MTB-ing which I've not dabbled with for 25 years since around the age of 17 (used to do a lot in West Yorks growing up) - especially for routes closed to mechanically propelled vehicles many of which I've encountered during research for potential 4x4 dabbles, would open up a whole new world. Currently have a couple of high spec Raleigh MTBs in storage to choose from courtesy of my housemate, but I rather think I'd need the electric assist these days! Maybe if I start getting out and about on one of the Raleighs I'll get fit enough for climbs - good thing is I know fitting one in the Yeti is no problem to take to the places I'd want to ride, as I shifted both recently at the same time stuffed in the car. 🤣😊 Looking forward to watching more of your adventures. 👍
Very enjoyable viewing. I've just subscribed. Keep uploading & ride safe. 🤩
Nice little route that 👍
This is one of my own versions done in the opposite direction.ruclips.net/video/Iw2Vc4wz_KE/видео.htmlsi=R70ky1ji6M9CpSvj
Binhley bash is one of my fav local routes i ride snd guide on, this is the originsl version dating back to the early 90's. Good video. ruclips.net/video/3tfHHxa6CMw/видео.htmlsi=l5uOhjJNJC5Q-js_
Parts of that look like a massive bog😂
My local area. Welcome to Calderdale, always lots of climbing around here lol.
Wow coming from meltham you could have avoided most of them roads. I have a good 21 mile circular that covers mostly farm tracks woods and moorlands. Yes you have the odd bit of tarmac but that can’t be helped. But mainly crossings.
Thanks for that info.👍 Unfortunately I am from Derby. I literally follow routes from a book. I haven't a clue where I am half the time 😂
@@emtbriderit involves some really good tec fast flowing trails. The amount of times I thought ah you should have turned right then or left. Could have avoided those roads. We don’t like roads. Ruins good tyres. Scrap that book. 😂
Can you talk about bike, how big battery is and is it big enough for Peak District ride. Chesrs pal
Hi, As a guide the longest route I have done in the peak District is 30 miles with around 4000 feet of elevation. I used 90% of my battery. I ride a specialized levo turbo with a 700w battery I sometimes ride with my son, who uses a lot less battery than me, but he rides in eco most of the time, as he likes a good workout I would focus on your elevation rather than mileage, it will give you a better guide to how much battery you will use. Hope this helps 👍
Good video mate. Do i follow you on strava or Kamoot?
Interesting looking ride and somewhere I’ve never been before, great video Shaun 👍😎
That climb up to the Wellington cross is a killer but it’s very enjoyable too 👍😉
Great video Shaun, such a beautiful place to ride, I’ve bought the books you’ve mentioned in your videos and I’m looking forward to trying out the longer ones, I prefer the ones over 20 miles but linking some of the short ones together would be great, do you have a link to your Komoot channel please, I’d like to check out some of your rides on there mate.
Hi, Unfortunately I don't upload my routes for public use, I don't think it is fair on the authors of the books. I will however look at uploading routes in the future using the knowledge I have gained from all the previous routes I have used. I totally understand people wanting the routes, which is why I will upload variations in the future 👍
That’s fair enough mate I didn’t think of that, I have bought all four of the mentioned books and I sat for hours on my iMac looking for the rides on OS maps, some I found, the others I’ll plan on Komoot 👍😉
That motor sound would get on my nerves. I am an old school hardtail rider. My legs are my motor! Regardless, what a beautiful day for it!
These are edited clips. I am unlikely to film much on the flats. When you hear the motor I'm running a lot of assistance. If you enjoy riding a hard tail without a motor, stick with it. Each to their own I guess 🙂
Cheers
Well done mate. Its a gruella but well worth the effort and the satisfaction of ticking it off
It's much easier on a dry day 😆
@@emtbrider It took me my 3rd attempt to complete. 2 previous with technical issues. The Ebike was better for the climbs for sure. I wanna do it again but this time in the summer
Did a bike packing trip last year and was about 40 mile in when i hit this Langsett to Ladybower way it took me 2hrs of mainly pushing a fully packed bike over it, never again.
Lol... yes, it can be heavy going 💪
I've got the book and tried to nap to my garmin from the book and gave up. Totally no idea😂
I use the Komoot app. Very easy to map. Or just take a few photos of the instructions on your phone. Routes are easy to follow 😀
looked a really good route mate. is there any chance of the gpx for this one ?
Hi, Unfortunately I don't share the GPX files as I don't think it's fair on the authors of the book. However I will probably be looking at sharing variations of routes in the future 👍
Another great video mate. I have the book and tried to map it on to my garmin with little success as I find it hard to tranfer the description on to the mapping tool. Have you the GPX for this and the others out of the book?
Hi Shaun ,just been watching you video's, do you have any links to the routes on komoot ?
Hi, The only reason I don't share the routes on Komoot is I don't think it's fair on the authors of the books, however I might start adding routes where I've modified them. You are watching last year's rides atm though lol ... I'm currently riding Yorkshire this year. I might start adding a shared route every month, so watch this space 👍
Great vid, can I ask are you mapping the route or following the route on your phone, if so what app are you using to follow the route?
Hi, I use Komoot, which is an app on my phone 👍
Do you have to put the route onto the app?
Hi, Yes, l plan the route in advance using Komoot on my computer. The only reason I don't share the Routes on Komoot is, I don't think it's fair on the Author of the book. The books are easy to follow though, you can just take a picture of the route instructions of your phone and follow it that way 👍
Looks great mate. Itoo have bought the books after watching your videos😊
Excellent, there are some real good routes in the book 👍
Hi Shaun only just found your channel i live in Chesterfield and have done most of the routes within a 50 mile radius it`s been most enjoyable watching you do familiar routes. Can`t believe how few views you've had and comments, keep it going pal I'm enjoying it anyway.
Cheers John, Yes some good routes around chesterfield. I think a lot of people try to create a big RUclips channel. I just started for my own benefit tbh. I just like doing different rides tbh. Thanks for the positive comments 👍
going to have to try this route. do you have a gpx?
Looks like a great ride I did some bits on my gravel bike today, was great!
Do you have a .gpx of the route, it looks like great ride.
This route looks amazing, really does look like there is a bit of everything... I think I'm going to have to purchase this book so I can ride them, I noticed you have the route on your phone do you plan it on Google Maps before you ride?
Hi, Sorry for the slow response. I upload my videos then forget about them. Lol Yes I plan my route out in advance on Komoot. The only reason I don't share the routes on the internet, is because it doesn't seem fair on the author of book ☹️
@emtbrider yeah man no bother, I purchased the book a few days ago, I was merely curious as to how you get the route onto your phone 🤣 this Stanage route looks extremely enjoyable and I'm looking forward to cycling it 🤙🏻
Good looking route and some good commentary in this video, have you thought about using MapMyRide and exporting the.gpx files to share, that book looks awesome and it would be good to have digital copies to put on a GPS, great video again sir, thank you
I enjoy your videos and your routes are relatively local to me, like ypu this one is on my doorstep, may I say though, after following your routes I realise you cut off key points such as where to turn or how you get onto said trail, it would be awesome if you made this route and uploaded it to Garmin/Strava/Map My Ride as then others could download it and follow the way, great video and great efforts 👌🏼
Hi, Thanks for the constructive comments It's work in progress at the minute lol... As my routes are taken directly from a book, I don't like to upload the routes, as it seems unfair to the author of the book... If all his routes were online he wouldn't sell any books. Maybe I need to look at planning some of my own routes, as I have plenty I have modified. Unfortunately I already have weekly videos going up to the end of October. That's how many rides I have already done this year. I've just not made them visible yet lol
@emtbrider hey no bother, I get what you mean about the author and I would say it's a fair point I hadn't considered that, your content is really enjoyable and look forward to the coming videos, my point about explaining how/where you are is because when you go and say just passing Meadow Farm, unless you know it can be difficult to navigate, I didn't know it was at the bottom of Dale Rd and I've lived locally for about 15years 🤣🤣 however, I was able to work it out and really enjoyed the route 🤙🏻
