Mass Movement IN ACTION 🎬 !!! at Walton-on-the-Naze.
As rain permeates through the layers of soil and hits a layer of London Clay or Red Crag it creates a lubricant and the top section of the cliff slides over the underlying clay. This is called 'slumping' which is also aided by cracks caused by freeze thaw action, animal and bird burrows and wave action at the foot of the cliff. Slumping results in the edge of the cliff breaking away from the top of the cliff and falling onto the beach below.
Naze cliffs contain three types of sedimentary rock, the oldest layer is London Clay, the middle layer is Red Crag and youngest and top layer is sands and gravels deposited by the retreat of ice sheets. This layering is the reason why the soft cliffs a...

    But doesn't it always look like that? Maybe you should have given us some footage from on top of the cliff so we can see where it is now. I haven't been there in a few years but used to live local so I'm very familiar with it's appearance from the park above. There was always sections of the cliff eroding away. If you rumage through that debris it's a great place to find fossils. BTW Did you know, in prehistoric times, this was actually on the banks of the River Thames. At that time the source of the Thames was somewhere near Liverpool and it run through walton and joined the River Rhine on it's way to the sea (yes the North sea didn't exist at that time). What we now call the English Channel was just the delta of the River Rhine.

    The air quality was poor before the pandemic broke out, the pandemic forced more people to stop driving and stay at home, the gas consumption plummeted, and the air quality improved. Would This be Negative or Positive. Im thinking its negative feedback but I'm not sure.

    This is what im talking about, love the use of the key concepts (positive feedbacks, equillibrium etc) What is the main focus i should be looking at when studying A Level coasts, for a level?

  • @eviehetherington
    @eviehetherington Год назад

    How would you say that an understanding of feedback systems helps manage the coastline?

    • @MrCrosbydoesGeography
      @MrCrosbydoesGeography Год назад

      An understanding of the coastal system and processes (including feedback) will inform the likely movement and behaviour of sediment, and the amount of erosion that is likely. This can be used to help inform the management strategy for any given section of coast. This information, along with economic analysis and stakeholder viewpoint will help to formulate the SMP.

    Thank you for sharing this, very interesting to see the wider picture. I live in Chignal St James and having seen footage over the last few weeks of other wildfires around the country it was a completely different experience to step out of our home and be surrounded by thick, acrid smoke. The sky was a strange colour and went very quickly from being clear blue to having an almost iridescent orange glow as the wind blew towards us. We could not see exactly where it was coming from or just how serious a situation we were in and relied heavily on footage like this on social media to help understand. I discovered how important our small rural community is and everyone got together to deal with what we needed to do and we packed bags ready to be evacuated and gathered pets. The farmers were exceptional dashing around in awful conditions and the village hall was opened for those who were evacuated. We checked in on neighbours who are elderly and more vulnerable. At the time it was quite scary as we are surrounded by fields. We are incredibly grateful to the emergency services and local farmers who battled to keep it away from peoples homes. One home in particular had a very lucky escape on Mashbury Road. Thankfully for us the fire was stopped about 800m away from our home with other neighbours being much nearer. I haven’t lived here that long however neighbours who have been here 30+ years say they only recall this happening once before some years ago. I am concerned that with issues around climate change this may now be a more regular occurrence. The heat we are feeling here is like a blast furnace has been opened which I have never experienced before in this country. It is so vital that younger generations learn more about this and help to combat a fast changing environment.
