    I’ve seen boxes of different sizes, some taller and some shorter therefore easier to put their head in. Is there a reason for size difference or does that not change the process?

    • @ultimate-k9
      @ultimate-k9 10 дней назад

      Good question, I like the box fairly deep so it goes up to the dogs armpits. I have a box for small dogs walls are 6 inches and for big dogs 12 inches. I always round of the wall edge so it doesn't create any type of abrasion if the dog goes in like a maniac.

    • @GiGi-dd5cr
      @GiGi-dd5cr 8 дней назад

      @ thanks so much, because mine does go in like a maniac in my current temporary box and that’s good to know while I get my wooden one made. But dutchies kinda do everything in maniac mode lol

    Nice job. Successive approximations is 100% operant. The amount of time it took him was normal. Helping would be prompting which is then faded which is operant. How would this have been done classically? The only way to get an animal to do a behavior is operant. Even if the dog does something out of a reflex, as soon as you reinforce or don't reinforce it becomes operant. Curious how any training was classical. I hope whatever happened is better for you. Not starting something, I'm just curious how this could have ever been done clasically. Nice Mal.

    • @ultimate-k9
      @ultimate-k9 16 дней назад

      Operant turns into classical once it is reflex response. It can not ever be started classically because it is in the learning phase. Thanks for watching.

    • @legacyntd
      @legacyntd 16 дней назад

      @@ultimate-k9 A reflex is something that the organism cannot control. It also doesn't require reinforcement. If you were to stop rewarding the dog for performing the behavior, it would become extinguished. Actually, detection starts classically. The dog notices the odor, not knowing what it is, and gives an orienting response, or what Pavlov called "the what is it reflex?" As soon as they make that classical reflex of curiosity of the odor you reinforce. From then on it is operant. An operant cannot become classical because then the dog would NEVER physically or mentally be able to NOT obey a command. So with the blind circle, you are shaping. At what point does it become a reflex and that dog will go around it every single time because he physically and mentally cannot stop himself from doing it? If behaviors become reflexes then dogs would never disobey or not do a command when told. This means a dog would never blow a recall because it physically and mentally cannot stop itself from not doing the command. A dog would never not release a bite. So how would one get the dog to that point where they don't obey because of reinforcement or to avoid punishment but because it cannot stop itself from doing so? That would be an industry and scientific discovery if someone could make that happen.

    • @ultimate-k9
      @ultimate-k9 16 дней назад

      Brings focus up to my face, that is done in the beginning to strengthen focus towards my face, then the dog learns that the focus unlocks the food and the movement is extincted out of the training.

    I have an 11-month-old Black Lab/Shepherd mix who struggles with fear and anxiety. She’s afraid of loud noises, like motorcycles and cars, as well as large crowds of people. I want to help her overcome these fears so I can take her to different places, especially during the summer, and have her remain calm. Will this help her?

    • @ultimate-k9
      @ultimate-k9 21 день назад

      It will but YOU have to be super consistent with her so that it is a true dopamine release when she sees the box, that feeling of good when she sees it amd is in it getting her food will overcome the fear as she will want the good feelings. You will have to work her into that though through successive approximation to reach total success, and then it will become counter conditioning.

  • @lexiemarchetti3165
    @lexiemarchetti3165 25 дней назад

    Curious how you work this with thunder storm fear. Probably sounds silly but when there's a storm we should use the box? Is there a progression to this to where he doesn't need the box anymore he's just less fearful of things?

    • @ultimate-k9
      @ultimate-k9 21 день назад

      Yes, but the box has to be trained and understood so when the dog sees it is a dopamine release, and those good feelings will overcome the bad. You have to be super consistent to overcome this amd other fears as it is up to you the leader to teach, lead, and overcome. The progression is in a few of the videos I have posted so if you watch and have questions I will do my best to answer your questions.

    Such a beautiful advice to play with two balls and thus to give and to take, thank you! I have learnt that dogs should never run and jump especially after eating dry food, to prevent a twisted stomach - is this not an issue?

    Would the "place" command then be taught as a "down" instead of a sit or does that stay as the "barely functional" part?

    • @ultimate-k9
      @ultimate-k9 2 месяца назад

      No, the place command is a whole different animal, and those components serve a lot of different purposes. I do not recommend a down on a place. The dog will lose focus and probably go to sleep.

  • @bocivus328
    @bocivus328 2 месяца назад

    What exactly is the point of the dopamine box? Why teach this? Is this a basis or building block of other, more advanced training?

    • @ultimate-k9
      @ultimate-k9 2 месяца назад

      The dopamine box is a function to teach the dog to focus and after a few sessions the dog will have a dopamine release just seeing the box before the work. You can use it to teach a lot of principles and overcome a lot of fears. It has a main priority to ha e a dog overcome pressure, stress, and remain focused to build confidence through pressure in many instances. Great question.

I've gone through the gamut of products trying to find the proper chewables for my shepherd (got some Mal in him so he's a high energy chewer too). Your advice makes perfect sense and correlates with safety warnings also. You made a very valid point mentioning that some of the toys are acceptable as long as the pup is monitored but not left alone, and some of the toys are good to leave around for any time to chew. Guess I got it in my head that I needed the perfect toy (which I have not found yet! 😜) I'm certainly looking forward to watching the rest your videos. Thanks so much, Troy

    Come on let's be honest if you're a good dog trainer you know whoever teaches the dog the command will always have better control of the dog than anyone else that just tries to repeat the words😅.... I think it is the stupidest thing to have somebody else train your dog because if somebody else is the dog handler but then they're supposed to take commands just from whoever says it doesn't really make them very useful Lmao 🤣 imagine the cop tells the dog to bite somebody and the dude just say got the the house 😂 or sit boy

    • @ultimate-k9

      Well honestly it is very transferable if yo7 have a good program and work with your client's correctly and spend the time teachingnthem woth the dog. I have no problems. As far as police training almost all depts buy dogs that are already trained and then they go through a phase with the dog to ensure training is transferred.

Can I ask, when you tell your dog to down, he downs in a proper position, what do you do if the dog eventually turns it into a ‘lazy down’ with the legs turned to the side after a while?
