Hollenbeck has been around for a while and was one of the first skate plazas built in the United States. Although there is a DIY quarterpipe in the corner, it was built without any transition at all to mimic real street skating.

it doesn't feel real

not a skatepark tour. Did some slappies, tried to skate street, met a glam burger mannequin, found a chicken, and so forth. Typical week. That is a grapevine beetle by the way.

Wow. A curb meant for slappy's!
Sweet curb
Sick spot!
Thanks for doing Kville! Can’t wait for Columbia City, Muncie and Huntington.
Background track is killer! Park looks rad! Gotta make my way there some day.
Its nothing but grinds
looks like a really fun diy. they always have the most character, skatepark wise
I live in Indianapolis Indiana new subscriber! Im just getting back into skating at 31 years old maybe we can skate someday
Remember riding this in 2008, and it was incredible. It's a surprise this this is still in the condition it is. Hopefully, this place will come back to life with a big event like it did on opening day.
Whenever you're back in Indiana, you should check out Hessville Skatepark in Hammond, Sheppard Memorial Skatepark in Griffith, and Gates of St. John Skatepark in St. John. It's all NWI.
St John is on my list for sure. I'll check out the other ones as well at some point this year!
Your vids have been so helpful!
Felt like a dream come true when I finally got to come here in the summer of 2011. Even then the concrete ledges were chunky but always liked the raw feel of grinding the concrete vs the metal coping. I hope next time I visit Ohio I can skate this.
Looks like they copy teampains concept of 90% transition parks which i think is lazy and bad designing for a 2023 built park.
Thanks Steve for another park review. I think I recognized this park from Anthony Van Engelen’s Epicly Latered. Cool to see it in full like this.
@@Usrbinry4n yep AVE skates Hollenbeck a lot.
Nice!!! Love to see Indiana skaters doing things!!! ❤
Wow! California Steve video!
I try to get around!
I'm about an hour from this park, it's an amazing park but sadly even 15 years ago the concrete ledges were hard to grind bc they were rounded out so bad
Thank you for the tour. The pool walls looked really steep in the video. Maybe that mimics ‘real’ pool walls?
Yes, I think you're right. That seems to be the intent here. While there's no such thing as a standard pool wall since they're all different, I think the builders went overboard with the steepness of these. Most of the users of this park will not be able to enjoy the pool because it's too steep to drop in on. It's kind of a shame because kids don't have any transition to learn on when skating this park.
Thanks for the rundown. I’ve been eyeballing that pool for a while so it was good seeing a little more detail than just what has been posted on social media in the past. Hope to get there soon!
Definitely some interesting dimensions on this one. This mimics a backyard pool more so than any park I think I've ever done a video of. I'm starting to see a lot more parks build bowls that have mellower transitions to make them more accessible for less experienced skaters.
@@stvnhill I noticed that it looked legit vert in the shallow end. We’ve got one similar to that where I’m from - very pool-authentic. Super fun but definitely not for everyone.
Thank you for all these videos! I'm getting back into skating in my mid-30s after a 10-year break, and it's been incredibly helpful to see these new skating options. Living in Hamilton County, I’m close enough to skate all of these parks!
Thank you! Hope you get to enjoy some of these skateparks.
Yo me and my buddy where in this video
I recognize this spot...near Keystone at the Crossing? I think I'll be checking it out on my next visit to Carmel.
Yep it is. Hit me up on instagram @stvnhill and I can drop you some pins for my curb spots around there.
Can you ride bikes here?
Will have to come up from Cincy at some point and check this out, thanks for the in-depth tour!
It’s less of a skatepark now and more of a forgotten spot definitely have to revisit here this was the spot back in the day Rob used to skate there back in the day and a few skaters we’re lucky to bump into him there on a random summer day that was before all his shows came out he was pretty cool person
I busted my knee here 20 years ago, I was literally on my way out too. I did it right on that ledge behind Steve heading back to the car. It was one of those multiple day limpers
Thanks Steve, a great looking park.
Highly recommend it!
That park was demolished and rebuilt
The issue I have is I just can’t seem to get on top, I’m more like slash grinding/ wall riding to curb and grinding the corner, can’t seem to figure out how to get on top
I've been there and I still get "misfires" from time to time. My experience has been that it comes down to the last second turn you have to do smack both trucks onto the curb at nearly the same time. To make that step easier, I'd play around with loosening your trucks for a more flexible turn and experimenting with different approach angles (i.e. coming in at a sharper angle that's closer to 90 degrees.)
Miss this park man, sucks I had to move.
im from around fort wayne and just got into riding parks so thanks for your videos!
Rad, Auburn and Kendallville are the best in the area in my opinion. Thanks for watching.
@@stvnhill i ride bmx and really enjoy lawton!
Still got it
Nice! Thanks for posting
Bet!
That park looks so fun
I remember being in the hospital the night we found out Ashton died. He was hit by a car outside the YMCA while on his bike. I think this was 2007. It hurt the community bad for a while.
just sweep it up. all of that didnt happen in one day either. sweep it off and use your blower. then just your blower after that as needed. most of our parks here are diy. i took my blower to each one time in the spring . thats all it needed. ledges and curbs can be rub bricked and painted. your an adult do it up man.
Skated a lot of these spots in the summer of 89.
The Jeff Kendall era! At some point I'm going to do a video about the spots in SOF/WOF.
@@stvnhill Ha! Close…I think he’d already moved to San Jose by 89, but yes, his Wheels of Fire video part vapors were still lingering.
I have sensitive feet and you talk about other shoes with better midsole. Do you have any suggestions on shoes with good midsoles?
A lot of shoes only have a foam midsole in half of the shoe, meaning that it starts around the arch of your foot and goes back to the heel. This is great for preventing heel bruises, but the ball of your foot and toes have no padding at all (aside from the insole.) Thus you need a shoe that has a toe-to-heel foam midsole. New Balance currently makes 4 that have this, the Tiago 808, the Tiago 1010, the Tom Knox 600 and the 480 (both high and lows). As for Vans, your options are either the Rowan 2 or the new AVE 2.0. Emerica has a few models with the G6 foam in it, but I'm less familiar with those.
@stvnhill thanks a lot! If you don't mind, how do you compare the sizing on New Balance vs Vans. I have quite the wide foot.
Where are the bathrooms
LFC for the win!
You'll never walk alone!
I amazed that someone successfully excavated the backside of that that curb! All those roots and rocks!
As much as I want to say it was difficult, I dug it out in the early spring when the ground was relatively damp and soft. It wasn’t too terrible to do. Cutting back the tree branches was worse. All for the love though!
@@stvnhill Rad! Looks like a fun little spot.
Good review. I want one of this model, very beautiful. Brazilian greetings. 🤝🇧🇷
Me and a few friends drove 7 hours from Toronto Ontario area back in 2005 and 2006 for the opening of this skate plaza. We were 17 - 18 at the time. It was a literal dream. It was incredible. It looks like from this video a lot of the ledges have been repaired with a steel siding. Anyway, I kickflipped the 9. Crooked the 7 stair rail, 360 flipped the grass gap thing. 50 - 50 the double stair rail. It was a memory and a trip I will never ever forget. I turn 37 years old this year. I might need to make one last harahh back to this place before its too late.
NB numeric 480 is a really good skate shoe. I don't personally skate no more, but from a friends opinion, he says both SB dunks and NB numeric 480 are the way to go for thrashin. I just wear both casually. Cool review 😎
Got some shin stitches on those back in the day .
The benches were soooo smooth whenever I went to this spot
Love the skatepark tours. Ive only been there once. The half pipe is gnarly.
