Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza - Kettering, Ohio | Skatepark Tour
My Grandparents live across the street from the park and I remember when this was built! Only skated it a few times as I was soon to buy a guitar and amplifier 😅
this park is gnarly n theres a ton of kids on bmx that shred this place.
tore my ACL and meniscus here in 2019 lol
Is this the same fitting as an old skool
@@JJ-tn5cg I think the area around the ball of your foot is a little wider. I’d also say it’s a bit taller around your ankle.
Skater rant here. the pegs thing is such a dumb myth only perpetuated by skaters for some reason, why would pegs ruin anything more then metal skateboard trucks, anybody who builds stuff and skates and bmxs can tell you this is absolute bs, if you make a box out of wood with no coping you can grind it on a bike all day and not ruin it, a skateboard would destroy it first try I’ve done it, just go to any famous bmx street ledge that gets hit by pro riders all the time then go to a famous skate ledge that only gets hit by skaters and you will find literally no difference in wear but for some reason I always here some random friend or skater on a vid mentioning it and it’s bs all it does is create restrictions against bmx at parks, against the same bmx community that holds huge events like swampfest and lets skaters participate even hole teams like thrasher are aloud to come and ride and film and this is the case at all the bmx jams that happen monthly across the world it’s common place, but I never see the at our skate jams in fact if someone tried I know people would get pissed I personally have skated my hole life and started bmx 4 years ago and it’s something I’ve instantly noticed lot of hate from the skate community and the pegs topic is just one of those things especially since it is literally a 100% false, maybe back in the day early 2000 when heavy mid school bikes roamed the earth with metal pegs and pedals I could see those 50 pound bikes do some damage but bikes now weigh nothing and have plastic everything cuz nylon is just a better peg and pedal and bar end material but even metal pegs on modern bikes don’t do any damage you can watch the same famous spots get hit for the last 30 years and they are still standing just fine after all the years of metal and plastic pegs
i just whent to that skatepark
Thanks Steve, nice little park although the finish quality looks a little rough and the blue triangle ornament in the way!
So good!
I found it very odd how you said that the term “frontside” and “backside” can be dropped for many grinds/slides as that’s completely false. A frontside feeble grind and a backside feeble grind are 2 COMPLETELY different tricks. The same is true for board slides, bluntslides and any others that you mentioned. Not trying to be rude, as the rest of your video is solid, but I’ve never heard ANYONE else in my 20+ years of skating say that you don’t have to specify between a front crook and a back crook.
@@OneClipAtATime I never said you drop the frontside and backside distinctions simultaneously nor did I say they are the same. Some tricks only use the frontside distinctions and drop the backside distinction. Those would be feebles, crooked grinds, boardslides, noseslides, and bluntslides. In these cases, you would specify if it’s frontside, but you would not say backside if it’s backside because it’s implied. Conversely, there are some tricks that only use a backside distinction, otherwise it’s implied that it’s frontside. Those would be lipslides, smith grinds, noseblunt slides, or tailslides. If you were doing them backside, you would say backside. Otherwise it’s assumed you’re doing it frontside. To put this in context, if a homie told you he lipside a rail, he obviously means frontside. Otherwise he would have said he “back lipped” it.
The Indiana state flag needs a park..
Good video. Thanks for the info
This park used to have a mini ramp as well. It was originally built in Hogan Park (maybe around 2002 or 2003) and that was all one slab with a nice tall fence around the whole place. I know at some point it got moved, then it looks like just recently they've moved it back to the original park.
Shame-burg, the bowl reminds me of the 70's UK 'cash in on the craze' parks, dig a hole and fill it with concrete. Also the concrete looks very weathered but good job on the metal edges. Thanks Steve.
The ground isn't too bad, probably just the time of day I filmed it. Your comparison of the bowl to the 70s UK parts is 100% accurate. I don't think there's any way to salvage it. Either rip it out and pour a new one or fill it in.
This park looks awful but in a good way it has a charm to it though. Everything looks built wrong but it weird I’m so conflicted.
Great way to describe it. There is so much variety to the ledges that you get a lot of different ways to skate the park.
Visiting this place today for the first time, thanks for the in depth review of everything. This place is unique and awesome
Grew up coming here!
Bruh, that's my home town
The Plaza is more of an abandoned spot than a skatepark, it has legit stairs, rails and hubbas and has a ton of flat ground and street flow definitely worth the trip
the stuff you guys try to tell me is the worst... would have been the greatest in my childhood... but here we are entitles murican brats again.
OK. serious question here. what evenings or weekend mornings do the old guys skate the bowl?
these videos are something Indiana really needs. Kokomo looks like it has the best parks in the state for no reason. Carmel is too tight and has the worst pool I've ever seen, noblesville is always crowded and feels very intermediate without a beginner section, Lawrence is torn up at the base of the smaller stair set and frequently has trash thrown around, Q has limited hours and helmet rules that steer people away. can't wait to check out this park and the pump track
Thank you! Hope you enjoy the other videos I've done as well. The Carmel park was built by general contractors instead of skatepark builders, thus the bowl was built incorrectly and is a waste of concrete. There's a guy who's leading the charge to get Lawrence fixed/improved after years of the city letting it decay, so we'll se what happens there.
*concrete wasted on transition goes on to show ledges stairs n handrails that no local kid will ever touch
Looks like a nightmare..
Holy crap this is completely upgraded. Moving back to Indy hopefully next year. Can't wait to skate this.
Man I forgot about this park ! Not one piece of graffiti at this park ! So sad to see here in Los Angeles beautiful skateparks like “Sheldon” get destroyed with graffiti that I don’t even want to skate it no more ! It was such a beautiful park .. skateboarding is on a downtrend and no one is skating no more sadly .. crazy to see how these ledges look so dry
it allow bikes??????????????????///////
would love to see some chicago parks for when i take a trip up there!
I've done a video on Grant Park. Wilson is fun too, just haven't done a video on it yet.
Why didn't you skate the park?
Is there a good park anywhere in Southern Indiana?
Depends on what part of SI you’re talking about. I’ve done tour videos of Batesville, Nashville, Columbus, New Albany, and Bloomington Switchyard. There’s also a new park in Evansville that’s worth checking out.
@@stvnhill Evansville is closest. Thanks!
The problem I'm having is getting my back truck up on the parking block and not hanging off.
I really we had that park when I skated in the mid 90's to mid 2000's
I remember when that park first opened. Steve Caballero was there skating at the opening! I can't believe it's been 19 years already!
New parks here in Australia are getting built the same now catering for young and old farts like ourselves 😂
Wow. A curb meant for slappy's!
Sweet curb
Sick spot!
Thanks for doing Kville! Can’t wait for Columbia City, Muncie and Huntington.
Background track is killer! Park looks rad! Gotta make my way there some day.
Its nothing but grinds
looks like a really fun diy. they always have the most character, skatepark wise
I live in Indianapolis Indiana new subscriber! Im just getting back into skating at 31 years old maybe we can skate someday
Remember riding this in 2008, and it was incredible. It's a surprise this this is still in the condition it is. Hopefully, this place will come back to life with a big event like it did on opening day.
Whenever you're back in Indiana, you should check out Hessville Skatepark in Hammond, Sheppard Memorial Skatepark in Griffith, and Gates of St. John Skatepark in St. John. It's all NWI.
St John is on my list for sure. I'll check out the other ones as well at some point this year!
Your vids have been so helpful!
Felt like a dream come true when I finally got to come here in the summer of 2011. Even then the concrete ledges were chunky but always liked the raw feel of grinding the concrete vs the metal coping. I hope next time I visit Ohio I can skate this.
Looks like they copy teampains concept of 90% transition parks which i think is lazy and bad designing for a 2023 built park.
Thanks Steve for another park review. I think I recognized this park from Anthony Van Engelen’s Epicly Latered. Cool to see it in full like this.
@@Usrbinry4n yep AVE skates Hollenbeck a lot.
Nice!!! Love to see Indiana skaters doing things!!! ❤
Wow! California Steve video!
I try to get around!
