Many times for five years. Not as treacherous as it appears, even in traffic. Camera used makes the view look compressed, more narrow than in actuality.

Nice sunny weather for most of the year is great, but having to deal with 1 ton plus vehicles sucks.

When I was about 24 years old, I rented a bike in Santa Monica, rode to the end of Santa Monica bike path, turned around and headed south. When I got to Torrance Beach, that was the end. I turned around and headed north. I am nothing like Biker 21ST who did a one-way trip in two hours. I am not a professional bike rider and the bike I had was not pro at all. In the early 90's, we did not have GoPro, wish we did. I took me six hours to do a round trip between Santa Monica Beach and Torrance Beach. The thing on my mind that kept me going, I had to return the rental. I was enormously proud of myself for doing this. It is a flat path, at sea level of course, and it was fun. The six hours is also because I stopped along the way, got food, talked to different people, and restroom breaks. I had a water backpack that kept me hydrated. I do not know what made me do this, it was spontaneous, and I was like, do it. The only sad thing was that I had to pay $5 for all day parking in some parking lot there. That was in the early 90's so that was a lot of money for the time. Today, I will take the Metro there instead. I think I still have it in me to do it again, even though I am 51 years old and still not a bike pro, only this time, I will be wearing a GoPro. The best memory is when I got to edge of LAX, I did stop to watch the planes fly over as they flew over the water to their destinations. That was fun and memorable. I also did the entire Long Beach bike path, much shorter, but very scenic and smooth.

Why are you cycling where it says only pedestrians?

I came through LA in rush hour one time, it didn't look safe at all for cycling. I suppose sidewalks would have been an option but that's sketchy at best. I would have to go so much slower to avoid pedestrians and even then there were so many of them. I suppose it's all about timing and prayer lol. I could easily keep up with the traffic in rush hour side streets but they were nuts. Blatantly running reds, cutting other CARS off, let alone a little bicycle they could barely see. Although I do cycle with so many blinking lights and hi-vis items they'd almost have to WANT to hit me, I think I'll go mid day if ever. Cut down their chances. I do want to try it at least once though

As someone from NYC that has quite a lot of trails just like this and is familiar with them from all those movies that take place there, i can’t wait to hit these routes on my trip later this year!! I know it will be an incredible experience

if I park in Malibu and ride down to Santa Monica, how is the way back? is there a bike lane on the way back? is it better or worst? talking about safety.

Your ride started on Glendon Ave. in South Pasadena. You didn't get to Pasadena until about 10 minutes into your vid. BTW, your Osmo Pocket did a nice job! I have the Osmo Action - very happy with it. 👍

Great video! I really miss living in So. Cal. My typical ride would be I would park the car at Valley Park in Hermosa Beach, get on the bike, ride down the hill and pick up the bike path there all the way to Santa Monica pier. Reward myself with an ice cream cone from Pier Burger, rest a bit, then make the ride back. My legs would feel like spaghetti afterwards, but it was always a beautiful ride.
