The development of Paleoscience stems from the Western science point of view where reality is explained under one main positivist perspective. Relativism surfaced in the 1970s in connection to Ethnosciences and Political Ecology, as a counterproposal that acknowledges different knowledge systems, all contrastingly valid when referring to explanations of reality and the cosmos. Working in Paleoscience in the Latin-American context, particularly in the rural side of Guatemala, requires an opening of epistemological perspectives when exploring sedimentary reservoirs located in Indigenous communities, where collaborations are necessary.
