Review of Bundeswehr German Army Alpine back pack by MFH.
I just squeeze the strap clamp together with pliers.thank you for your video.
I had a Chinese copy of this from MFH. I must say that the original is significantly more robust and of higher quality! I found an unused one manufactured in 1999 with all the original tags from the factory. Extremely primitive and simple in its design, which can be nice to have sometimes in contrast to my more tactical backpacks with MOLLE, zippers etc.
Yes Sir, there are a lot of copy cat types out there. They serve a purpose but in comparison they are not even close. I’ve seen originals filled with bricks and then thrown around on a the end of a land digger …. not som much as a blemish! Yes the MOLLE system for me is complicated and has the ability to break but … materials have progressed and so has design. Thank you for dropping by to SMR. Come back anytime Sir. Laurie
I recently paid $80 U.S. for a brand new, un issued German manufacturer Bundeswehr issue pack. Worth every penny. I did swap out the waist strap for a proper one by 5.11. I obtained my first some 20 years ago before I knew what it was. Starting to get dirty but still 100% in every other aspect.
Yes a very wise purchase! Simply indestructible and a workhorse for travel. Thanks for dropping by at SMR

Sekri make them.
Is the Mil-Tec version of that pack any good?
Hi there and thanks for joining in on MSR. Ive been told that the Miltec ones are ok but also the Brandit ones get fair reviews. However, i personally recommend one from ASMC.de An excellent example.
I offered to take him and buy groceries ad he said no as he gets his card tomorrow
I've had one of these since I was 12 the canvas one just like yours, I found it in a thrift shop in Holland that I spent the last of my pocket money on! It's still with me to this very day, however I didnt realise it's meant to come with a backplate, always wondered why it was so floppy. I had no idea it was quite rare, maybe I will be a bit kinder to it now 😂
Well done for staying with it my friend. Treat it to a nice kip mat then you'll find that its totally different. They like a refresh and reproof too, they just get better with age. Thank you for dropping by to SMR! You're of course welcome anytime.
Im trying to figure out where this is on the website you've linked. Can you please put a direct link to it? Cheers
Hi Lofty, have a look on ASMC website in Germany. They have an English tab so on their search type in Bundeswehr Day Rucksack Hope this helps Laurie
@@soldierloz hello sadly doesn't look like they have them anymore. Is the brandit one or mil tec worth buying?
@@lofty1807 according to my friend in the Army Reserves, these are meant to be excellent! I might even get one myself in fact! www.military1st.co.uk/8005-1-brandit-bw-hunting-backpack-olive.html
@@soldierloz thanks for your help
Hello, How much is it?
They can cost anything from £20 - £45 depending on condition, size etc etc. This one is for show only.
I enjoyed your video, I have a question, are them snaps I saw on the under side of the flap, if so what would they be used for?
Hi John, I think the snaps you mean are probably just the closed off end of the lid buckles. Have a look at my other videos in particular, the German Bundeswehr day pack. These are much better and very useable indeed! Highly recommend! Thank you for tuning in to SMR! Laurie
@@soldierloz I thank you for the reply, as well as your suggestion.
Boonier hat 👏👏👏👏👊
So we can conclude: The US made stuff is way more shitty in terms of building quality than the cheaper made polish copy. BUT nevertheless it's made in the US... and that means (as a quick note: and veeeery important, but only for US citizens) proudly made in the US, with proudly and patriotic materials (the cloth and the fabric itself swings around the US flag in a very proud way and I already can't get the picture out of my head for now on ;) it has to be better than the cheap polish knockoff. But as a European I already know, that I would rather buy the cheap and probably more durable craftet polish knockoff than spending my money on the "proudly" (what the fuck does that actually mean?) US made USMC stuff. This sick patriotic "US made" shit fucking annoys me, so let's get over it!
So as a European you prefer the European copy? Pretty ironic. Oh, and you know, buying an American design. 😅
dann geh zurück in dein verdammtes Scheißkistenland. Ich habe Sachen aus anderen Ländern gekauft, die nicht halb so lange halten wie ein in den USA hergestelltes Produkt. Als ehemaliger US-Marine sind diese Uniformen erstklassig
Great bag! I found one a few years ago for four dollars at a Goodwill here in the states! I wasn’t quite sure what it was but I didn’t know it was great quality and military.! Great review! Thanks for the info! New Subscriber!!
Believe it or not I found one of these at a Goodwill for $4 a couple years back and wasn’t unite sure what it was, but I DID KNOW it was very very well made, and military! Love it!! Great for my prepper stash! Great review!
Just bought one for Survey work. Great review brother and many thanks from Florida!
A superb buy there my friend. You’ve probably bought one of the best issue packs made. The Germans really know their stuff.
Used to be called a 'Hussif'
I like these hats. Are very good for Amazon, The sun is strong.
Is it stable for long walks?
Yes I should think so. The bottom half will crush down so seems perfect!
Oooh. Looking at options to downsize my 120 litre bergen (kit downsized), and this or the brandit version looks good.
I have one of those hats. And a blue one from the navy. My brother is in the navy and they disconintued the blue uniform. And he sent It home in a box. And I wear the blue one EVERYWHERE! I’m not sure if it’s valuable. But it sure is special to me.
Hallo, dies ist leider nur eine Kopie. MFH lässt in China produzieren. Das original ist in Qualität unerreicht. Damit kann man alles anstellen. Gruß
Yes this seems to be the case. If this had better straps, pads and finish it would be ok, however it is on £30.
Thanks, I’ve just got one of these
Is it good?
Milaneesie yes it is great
Is this made by MFH?
No … this particular one is made by the original manufacturer and comes direct from Germany hence the higher price. The MFH version is nowhere near as good and a bit crudely made. Brandit make a good copy. Slightly larger in size too so a good alternative if price is a factor. Thanks for dropping by to SMR.
Excellent review. Seems as though we need to go ASMC in Germany to get the real quality as there are very mixed reviews on the reproductions
@@harashigomari1690 dont get a repro...I did....was hassle after a few walks....constantly repairing it ...frayed on the strap after about 2 walks....got about 6-7 years out of it tho but I had to put a patch right round one of the straps to stop the constant fraying...then one day i just pulled on the strap and it came out....I didnt even have to pull too hard....I'm not sure what make it was but it's due to the weave or lack of it...just not woven tightly enough like the German ones. I am finding it hard though to even find a proper cotton BW one these days let alone the Cordura one! They are 70 euros on the AMSC site
I was able to get an original issue dated 2003 and was planning to use it as my hand carry bag in my overseas trips but covid 19 was not impressed so it remains in storage till the day. A tip. The Swiss Army issue M84 canteen and cup fits perfectly on the side pouches.
If you mind me asking, what mfg. is yours? I have one of these packs and I’m trying to determine if it’s a real Bundeswehr one or a fake. It has a sewn in tag with the NSN number and says Klein on it. Thanks for the M84 tip as well
Thank you just got one of these and I was wondering what all the features were. Looking forward to putting some kit in it and heading for them thar hills. Excellent information thanks again.
Hi Lee, yes thanks for dropping by to SMR. Agree, superb kit bag with features geared towards true outdoor pursuits. A good tip is a generous puff over with Fabsil silicone keeps the wetness at bay. Pleased you like yours, it will serve you well. 👍🏻
Must be one of the last of the canvas ones as most of the canvas ones I have seen were different. Buckles and straps were the big thing if I recall. Also, all of the later ones I have seen still had the reinforced bottom. I wonder if the last generation did away with this?
Hands down one of my favorite packs, had one for a few years now with no intention of retiring it. Might actually grab another just because, doesn't hurt to have spares!
Absolutely agree. Totally rugged and very useable indeed! They are drying up now so if you see a good one .... GRAB IT! Thank you for dropping by .... welcome here anytime. Great!
@@soldierloz absolutely! There is a surplus store local to me that just got a shipment of them, about $130 CAD now but if they still have some when I make it back I will grab another.
Just make sure you remove the global and anchor . In the states marines will kick your butt for wearing that
Hi there, thanks for tuning in. I don’t wear this hat, I merely collect and present them as USMC items are rare over here. I have many Marine friends in 🇺🇸 who send me items in return for British kit. Semper Fi, Laurie

Hi there, thanks for dropping by to SMR. Yes indeed, to re-proof canvas I tend to opt for Fabsil liquid either brushed on or aerosol. To buy these in this condition prices range from £35 - £50 at a guess. For higher prices they should be including the sleep mat (as shown in the video). Thank you for the nice words about the filming, my young lad will be pleased and it’s a great advertisement for 🌈autism awareness. Laurie
Another interesting video you said you reproofed it what did you use to make it waterproof ? And how much are these to buy And your camera man is very professional Looking forwards to your next video 👍
Bought mine plus the mat for 33 euro, but this was back in 2017. The price has gotten higher and it is harder to find orginals today. But there is tons of surplus sites so look around and you might get lucky.
Thanks for your very informative video The Germans do know how to make a good bit of kit Have you any more videos planned soon ?
Hi there and thanks for dropping in to SMR. Indeed our German friends really know good kit and the beauty of it is that much of it is unchanged. Yes I have done a few more of these videos to maybe help people looking for nice quality rucksacks, hats, etc so please join us again here at SMR. I am also hoping to do a review on Gold Label Wax for Barbour jackets very soon. Best wishes, Laurie
Thanks for the vid I was thinking about getting but wasn’t that sure about the colour due to the quality of the pics , so thanks for the help full information
Hi there and thanks for dropping by! The pack is awesome and I have to say that the colour is a very sensible green. These newer versions just have the edge on the earlier canvas edition because they have saved on the weight without it costing any of the quality. WWW.ASMC.DE is where I bought mine. Recommend!
Hi Samo, I have done my enquiries and I can confirm that these “new type” packs are genuine issue. They are like a sort of Mk2 version. The earlier ones became very heavy when wet. The newer version has saved on weight whilst still remaining water resistant and I would suggest that you have done well to get one as they are drying up!
