Why Do You Need an Analog Eq Emulation Plugin
Does TDR SimuLathe CUT includes the sames features and more than REF version ?
of all the "final masterbus hype make it sound better with one knob" style processors this thing is tops from what i've tried. I'd say it is an "easy" mode bus processor for slightly more nerdy users but during tracking throwing this on for artist mix is heavenly. Zynaptiq don't miss!
Gave it a go and really like what it can do on a full drum kit. I want to understand the magic under the hood of this thing. I wonder whether Newfangled Punctuate might be a great alternative with all its frequency band options. I was getting good results with it except it took me a bit longer.. Bit I haven't tried either of these on a full mix yet.
Great video I bought it as I'm in the eco system and I got it for a very good price. Superb chanel and very informative information.
The issue here is that people are abusing these tools, because the way eg Soothe is designed invites abuse. They are useful to remove resonances that peak out, but people often end up setting it so that it removes all resonances within the entire frequency spectrum. But resonances are just a natural part of most instruments timbre. If you remove all of them, you loose character. Hence I prefer a tool like Toneboosters Sibalance or TDR Arbiter, since they are designed to remove only individual resonances poking out as opposed to all resonances in a full spectrum.
They don't remove resonance from the full spectrum. You can decide, in EACH one, which part of the spectrum you want to have affected. In Soothe 2 you have filters that can remove a specific part from going into the dertector.
@ You missed the “they invite abuse” part
Saw the Visual EQ Display in your Video & Was looking forward to see it on the plugin! Glad it is now a Feature MuchRespect & MuchAppreciated Pulsar Modular!

How many people boost something in there music and automatically think there was an improvement.. I think a good rule to follow is never use a plugin on 100 percent setting , like the mix knob. I try to keep things at 50 percent max , unless is an fx that will last a second or two. Great point on why so many people use plugins just because they seen others use it.. Just a thought ..👍
A/B comparison with the original (dry) in equal loudness is really important to evaluate if one actually made an improvement or not. At least in my workflow.
"Read the manual" Best advice you never hear on RUclips - good on ye.
I know, right!
How is cpu usage? Zynaptiq is known for being a cpu hog.
Didn't really check CPU usage. If it is a CPU hog than using it ONLY on the master is still worth it IMHO.
Very interesting. Seems to act a lot like Maximus, when you 'upward expand'. Even the 'length' of transient'' sounds quite like the release on maximus when you use it that way... to shape transients based on drawing your own 'shape' and focusing it on a band.. Real test for me, is Punch's 'detecting'.... it does look like it has similar limitations to maximus... so looks like a band based, compressor, with the shape of compression/s that are useful for enhancing and shaping peaks. I gotta try it.
Interesting! I over-abused maximus while I was in my Neurofunk phase :D
Nice one
Thanks 🔥
Now you got me with this one , i didn't know you could produce my kind of Music , do you have any Video materials for Psytrance in your Course section and if where should i look after it. Best regards , cheers
I started producing music mainly out of interest in goa-trance back in the 90's. I'll see about doing some psy-trance oriented material on the channel too. The course at mixxinacademy.com uses psy-trance in some lessons as well as neurofunk, prog house, dubstep...

What the hell does this have to do with the robbery
it’s all about keeping you engaged for the entire video for the algorithm to notice and promote further.
Nothing to do with the robbery. Was just an interesting way to start that whole video. This short is just an excerpt from the whole video.
@@MIXXINAcademy XD
Split EQ has different algorithms and was on full mix, probably testing on percussive mode works better
Yeah, you're right, I should have tested that.
Good content! Keep it up :)
Thanks, will do!
i only use unmasking when I hear a problem, not when I "see" it.
Totally Agreed. BUT, I have to say the amount of people PUSHING the "DO NOT look at analyzers" narrative online, is ridiculous. Everyone is free to mix whichever way they want, even if the result they get is bad. If visual aid was bad for sound, VU meters would never have existed either (and that is to mention ONLY VU meters). Learning how to know what you are reading and correlate that to sound you are hearing is also something that has to be trained. Finally, if visual aid was that bad, room treatment analysis would be done by ear too. I love my analyzers <3
@@MIXXINAcademy I totally agree, and at the moment when I hear a problem visual aid is very welcome. When it comes to mastering or finalising my mix my ears just aren't trained enough. There's absolute no reason to be dogmatic about tools ... or any workflow.
Wider VST from Polyverse is free and it also doesn't create any phase issues.
I remember trying that out a long time ago. Honestly never really needed anything like that since I deal with mostly electronic genres of music. Everything comes out of synths and can be widened during synthesis...
What plugin is that
SPL BIG
soothe is rubbish kills tones. Unless i dont know how to use it
Yeah, the job is to kill tones. Which tones is the choice you make...
@MIXXINAcademy cheers I thought it was a harsh frequency remover . I've tried it on spikey guitar tones and haven't liked the result .
@@tylerjackson7586 Look, it applies the dynamic eq that looks like the inverse of the sidechain signal's spectrum. It will take out whatever sticks out the most.
Hello! How many EQs do you typically use in a mix, and how do you use them (ie: transparent eq on vocals, followed by pultec to add)?
No rules, I usually just one one and the same EQ for everything...Kirchhoff EQ or Pro-Q 4 now... Whatever is the fastest for me to get the desired result.
🙏❤
The demo version is really annoying. If the pop-up window shows up only one time when it launched, Toneboosters free plug-ins could be the best bundle ever.
Well, they DO need to make money somehow. Annoying someone who is trying to NOT pay is a good way to get paid I guess.
Is spec craft the only one with low latency mode? great vid thanks
I would have to check deeper to be 100% sure BUT, yes. The only other spectral dynamic processor with a real-time non linear phase filters, that I know of, is the Waves Silk (Live version). Still it still induces a MINIMAL 1.5ms latency compared to the SpecCraft 0ms.
Please finish this, lovely sound
Adija kickdrum more suiable for phase adjust and making a kick from scratch?
I think its just easier for a lot of people, since they can SEE the phase movement even with the EQ applied and the phase change it induces. In Audija I mean the EQ is calculated when synhesized.
@@MIXXINAcademyFor psy trance its a game changer because of the ability to change the phase that none of the other kick plugins do. The phase issue you had at the end of the kick could be solved by the phase slider in 2 seconds
@@MIXXINAcademy “EQ is calculated when synhesized” yeap. so I think the biggest advantage of this plugin is that it facilitates the phase alignment of kick and sub
It can go down all the way to 5hz I don't know any other Eq that can do this and also when you use a bell to cut frequencies it can do 6db which many also can't do.. kirchoff eq sounds most natural and can make certain curves, I'd probs put toneboosters 2nd and fabfilter pro q4 3rd I think fabfilter has the best look overall and functions and for finding bad frequencies, I use fabfilter as a way of finding bad frequencies then kirchoff to make the adjustments.. I hope everyone can experiment with these eqs and share any information as it helps us all. Lastly I love the ssl eq for boosting as it gives most tracks that sound you want and natural sounding
The Eventide Split EQ seemed to also get the more quiet transients of the hihats. It sounded like there's a phaser effect on the signal, which I thought was probably going to disappear when not soloing the transients. It seems like the phasing remains to some extend. The Toneboosters EQ Pro did not seem to recognize the quiet transients. The de-reverberation seems useless in this example.
True it did definitively get ALL the transients, still the filtered sounding effect on that much boost was still there even after I un-soloed the transient part. At least it sounded like it to me.
Cool.. Span Rules🎉
SPAN definitively RULES!
Thank you for personally inventing this bro 🙏
I know, right? ;D
You didn't invent anything, it's a technique that thousands of producers have been using for years. A little bit of humility Bro .
@@ArtardiDebernuro if you actually watched the start of the video you would have heard that Imentioned I got it on Reddit 😝 and choose to say I invented it. So, "I invented it."
@@ArtardiDebernuro I'm a Genius like Kanye Bro ;)
nice
Thanks
great technique. sounds good on your drums. have you tried using Spiff instead of Soothe for that yet though? Spiff was made for transients specifically while in Soothe the delta is more about resonant material, which is often pretty much the same thing, but not quite
Agreed, it would be mostly the same on drums, but not on harmonic material, EG. melodies of some sort. Spiff delta before reverb sounds interesting too.
U Genius U
;D. I need to patent this, ASAP!
Screw the haters man this actually sounds pretty cool
Thanks ;)
I think you are glorifying something that you can get very WAY BETTER results using an EQ before the reverb, and also to tame transients you can add any plugin that decreases transients ....with the Delta in Soothe you are feeding the reverb with the crappiest part of the audio! ...people are abusing the use of Soothe and destroying audio !! what a foolish trend!
Just a second, most ppl who advocate against Soothe and such effects use the argument that Soothe is REMOVING the best and most important part of the signal, the "overtones" that actually give the sound its timbre... Now, what you said is quite the opposite, so what soothe is removing is actually the total crap part of the signal?
@@MIXXINAcademy soothe is removing part of the audio that can be ok if is removed with care and moderation but is bad if is abused, bottom line, is better to don’t use soothe than abuse it, and records been mixed without soothe for decades……
@@bluematrix5001 I agree about records being mixed without it for years and sounding AWESOME. BUT You could attribut the abuse to any plugin, most of all the brickwall limiter that squashed the music for all... Everything in moderation and with NEED, to serve a purpose that betters the sound/mix/master. Without knowing what the problem is, no amount of tools will resolve it. New or old.
@@MIXXINAcademy sure, any tool can be a danger, but I see a big problem with “plugins that help with resonances”, “M/S processors” and clipper… which all are a trend today and really not necessary….
@bluematrix5001 man I loved using m/s when i was using some analog devices that didn't have stepped parameters. It was much easier to tolerate the m/s difference in parameters than L/R difference in most occasions for mastering purposes... I know that is also specific, just trying to say at least M/S is not at all new or trend. Agreed on the other 2. You gonna hate me for this, but i also love clippers too. <3 When trying to master a low quality mix, that res suppression sometimes saves my life.
So basically you're creating reverb from the worst sounding resonances with artifacts from narrow filters lol. It's "clean" in the mix but the reason being it's like 4% of the original sound is sent to reverb instead of 100% - not that it's cleaned up by any means. It's exaggerating those resonances and prolonging them by a reverb. If that sounds cool to you it's ok. For me it sounds well.. questionable. Can be cool for some sound fx, sound design but for general mixing I don't see any use of it for myself. I just clean my reverbs/delays with a simple eq
exactly, he is glorifying some BS, just better using an EQ before the plugin, putting a HPF and LPF and if you don't want transients into the reverb you can notch out that out with a EQ band (bell) or and using so many plugins that reduce transients.
but who says that those resonances are the worst? Soothe2 is often described as a compromise between a relaxed and characterful sound, so with delta kicked in in parallel it just boosts the character
Exactly, feeding it resonances, does not have to be narrow filters... whatever is standing out, it actually fits quite nicely in some applications. Does not really fit every single application, I don't think anything fits ALL use cases.
@bluematrix5001 BS or not I do like it for some creative purposes. I never said put that combo on everything :)
@@MIXXINAcademy it fits like 0.1% of situations from my perspective but to each their own I guess
Awesome try chorus before reverb too it’s smooth the signal and feel the depth
Thanks, will do :)
Eq to clean up reverb signal is old msn
@@PaulMillz not eq, extracted resonances... Using soothe
the man discovered eq before reverb. wow, what a genius
@@robertocedenno the point was extracting knly the most resonant parts of the signal, which is what soothe does...
amazing trick going to my arsenal, thx for this
You're welcome!
nice technique, can see this being useful for sounddesign aswe,,, itll only be a minute before some company releases a reverb that only reacts to transients / sustain to "solve" what can already be done like you showed
I am sure someone will pretty much make combinations of all tools given enough time. We can see that slowly happening with everything as our CPU power grows and no "NEW" processing methods actually appear on the market.
So how much of a different sound are you getting from this rather than just throwing an EQ before the reverb and only allowing a chunk of frequencies through and turning the wet knob down?
The difference would be that soothe2 usually picks up resonance clusters because they can fill up your audio without adding much value, but what he's doing here is actually boosting those resonances (the "Delta"), and adding some reverb so that it feels like *only* those frequencies are reverberated in the "room" tldr is just creative sound design
boosting as in giving them a place in the mix, rather than "soothing" them out
@@endhel_ okay but this can be achieved on the actual reverb plug in itself no?
@@kashbandi7461 you can always make the "room" extra resonant, however soothe2 picks up specific resonant tones based on an algorithm etc etc, (besides, you wouldn't be able to remove all non resonant frequencies on the reverb plugin)
@@endhel_ okay for sure thank you for the knowledge playah
Damn I see a lot of cool sound design or mixing tips lately. It be inspiring me -and I'm stealing that too-
Steal away, my friend, and make something amazing! But remember "I invented it" :D lol
it's a dream to have such a great tool , actually i love david Gravell kick drums and for years i'm trying to understand what 's his process chain or how he creates those Amazing kicks , with this tools it becomes easier to extract actual kick and analyze it , listen to this remix , for me it's definition of PERFECT kick drum : Armin Van Buuren - Together (In A State Of Trance) (David Gravell Remix)
Nice kickdrum, agreed. Let me know if you manage to extract it and to what degree of accuracy.
@@MIXXINAcademy well i actually used Fl studio Edison plugin from reclusion part of the track so it's 90% accurate so there is a little bit of bleeding of high frequencies to transient but still the way he processed the kick stayed mysterious to me, anyway here is a distinct way of extracting kicks if you're interested ruclips.net/video/slWhNujTSeY/видео.html
