How to connect two downpipes into one
Something a little unique for the ambitious DIY handyman today. During a re-gutter we had to connect one downpipe to two pieces of gutter, so the water didn't pool. It is shown on this video how to do that and some tips that will help the intermediate Handyman achieve this.

That looks like asbestos to me... or is it?
no it's not. it's hardiflex
Are they Asbestos sheet?
no fibre cement sheets
Or just use bigger drill bit
Then you have to change the drill bit every time because we are using the standard rivet bit. If that was the case, I would just use a chisel like I did.
Swiss or midwest Dennis?
swiss
Is that gutter being removed to be replaced mate? Does the colorbond roof need to be undone near it or can be removed and replaced with it left in place? Thanks
it doesn't need to be removed but you may have to remove some screws and if there is a downpipe it becomes more complicated. watch the ling version "how to replace gutter like a pro" to see what I did
@@dennisperrie thanks
G'Day Dennis, I just replaced an internal corner gutter and the facia has dropped. I wish I'd watched this video first, as I now have to remove the gutters to access the facia to raise the clips.. Bummer! P.S. Another great video!
I use my rivet gun all the time since i started watching your videos - I've learned a lot about cutting and joining metal DP. Thanks legend! 🙌
my pleasure . thanks for the feedback.
Don’t use a grinder!!
you can but use a metal cutti g blade and make sure you clean off the burr. If that really bothers you use A hacksaw
You are a bad ass!!!! Thank you for the helpful video
Great vid. Any tips if you don’t want to remove it from the roof and just take enough from ceiling inside to patch the hole in the ceiling?
just remove the bottom sections
Thanks Mate... great instructions
I saw you spaced the downpipe away from wall with blocks when installing brackets, but I am confused latter how the downpipe will not move. Did you rivet the downpipe to bracket? Great video also.
yes I put a Rivert in the bottom bracket and there is a block of wood behind the bottom strap. the top stays out due to the wood at the top and the tension from the top strap.
Something today that if you are willing will test your skills a little. Be patient and take your time.
If water from the internal box gutters is going back into the roof and into the eaves should a person install overflow exits in the internal box gutters to stop the water from going back into the roof and into the eaves from the internal box gutters?
you can it depends on the design of the roof and the box gutters
@@dennisperrie How big is the hole of the overflow exit in the internal box gutters and do overflow exits in internal box gutters damage the wooden fascias?
@@adamali2886 I am not sure the gutter type you are talking about, but the size can vary, and I generally use a 32mm pipe but that can change
@@dennisperrie the gutter is a internal box gutter
Great Vid! That is poor poor electrical work above that switch board.
Thank you ❤
Thanks❤
Thanks for sharing, the video is easy to follow.
Best one yet
Another great video. I only wish I'd seen it prior to redoing my gutters. LOL. My Facia or backing board has dropped by 20mm and I need to remove the gutter again, to access the facia, raise the mounting clips and re do my gutter. Are the corner pieces pre-fabbed or do you make them yourself? If pre-fabbed, Stratco or Bunnos?
It's just more practice having to redo it😀
You can't heat sheet metal up. It will only rust out on ya. Take 10 mins to replace that.
Only a weld can completely fix that. And a ever three year I check and seal it could work...
You bloody legend ! screwdriver and hammer for the cut out! Legendary ! Straight up no dicking around wicked video ! and top it off with from Perth made my day mate hats off to you and bet your phone hasn't stopped ringing after that rain the other night...
thanks for the comment and yes I am flat out after the rains👍
please not I am not sponsored by Tanus armour. I just thought it was a great product and that is why I made the video
Awesome thanks. For the first 6 minutes of the video I thought you were going to do the whole job without power tools! Great accuracy with the hand tools, I think my cutting would be veering left and right 😅
This is helpful thankyou! One question is what if you have to repair both corners of the fascia underneath, eaves AND the gutter corner? What order of things would you do? Got both corners of my roof looking like this :(
Generally, you start from the bottom and work up. So, Facia corner then gutter corner then tiles. If your fascia corner is leaking however, it will usually be coming from the gutter corner leaking onto the fascia
Unfortunately, that’s what a ‘carpenter’ did at my joint recently (along with a bunch of other stuff that needs fixing). Wrong man for the job. Installed prefabricated elbows on the end of the eave sections (they’re too big to fit a 90x45 downpipes). Surprise, took the money and hasn’t been back to fit the downpipes. My mistake. I’ll do the job properly, thanks to your videos.👍
I just wanted to show you a common problem I come across as a roofer. joining elbows. also note I clean the solder off this is because silicone doesn't stick well to solder.
hey mate I just had my Gutter change recently, but I have noticed there is water leaking behind the gutter into the fascia what do you think the proplem /thank you
If it is new gutter it is probably the silicone joints
@@dennisperrie i did check all joints looks good but i did see a gap between the back of my gutter and the fascia , if you could please make video about this type of issue and how to fix that thank you kindly
Then could be overflowing with capacity or the sheets\tiles are too short of the gutter.
@@dennisperrie i wish if i could show you a picture there is a gap between the gutter and the fascia, is possible the water go down the tile and drop between the gutter and the metal fascia, any way im watching your video and i will try to fix it myself, thanks again
Hi mate, can I ask you a question?, does the slope in the gutters depend on the fascia or the gutter itself ? thank you
it depends on the fascia because that is what the gutter sits on.
@@dennisperrie thank you
so going to give this a go after this weekend rain. if i stuff it up I might have to call you to come out (im gossy based)
Great work
Sir, the explanation and disciplined work is very easy to understand and very helpful for me. I wish you continued excellence in the future.
Thank you great vid also the valley that's going into the gutter is that too much and should it be cut back incase water flows over?
What's the glue are you using in the last?
roof plumbing silicone or roofing silicone.
@@dennisperrie thanks
Great video!
well done. thorough tutorial most appreciated
I was busy on another part of the roof today so I had Mathew show you how this is done. hope you enjoy.
Nice one bud.
Damm if I keep roofing are my hands going to end up like yours?? Good work btw 👍
took me years to wear gloves though. just put some on
can you please make a video on how to remove concrete roof tiles that have a nail
shall do. next time I come across it
can you please make a video showing how to connect the downpipe to the stormwater pipe under the ground?
i don't do alot of connections to stormwater but if i do i will video it for you
Its a bit of a long video today but I tried to keep it as short as possible. I will do another tommorow with just the downpipe connection so you can reference it quickly if you ever need. Enjoy
a helpful tip: the width of the ruler on your square is exactly 25mm. no need to mark 25mm from your line. just put the ruler on the line
they used to make squares with 30mm to and I loved those ones.
How much do you over lap the new box gutter and the new piece and the old piece.
it depends a little on what is under the box gutter and how rustwd it is. as a general rule i would look at between 150mm to 300mm
@@dennisperrie awesome, thank you
You made the installation looked easy. I can do it too by myself i think. How is its performance then?
It performs perfectly. for the stats you will have to look at the spec from the supplier.
@@dennisperrie Thanks
You are a legend! Great work!
Hope you enjoy. These back room are known for problems So when they are installed go by experience more than price, because a good installer will save you $$$.
A lot of work for one sheet. And the customer thinks why is this guy taking so long up there. Hope you had a reasonable logical customer to explain it to.
got lots of tea and coffee He was great we made sure we knew what was needed
What kind of screw did you use to joint the piece together
you use pop riverts
