Why would anyone bow to the queen?

The queen was well aware that heads of state are not subject to her and did not expect them to bow to her and considers them her equal. Also, in light of American History, American citizens and Presidents do not bow to her and have not done so for 250 years; Americans are not subject to her. It would be highly inappropriate for Donald Trump to bow to her and send the wrong message to the American people. The queen, being the lovely, educated and gracious women she is, understands this and does not expect them to do it. Queen Elizabeth was very aware of the culture, traditions and history of other countries and not anywhere near the narrow minded person you described.

I could not think of a worse job than being a member of the Royal Family. Fancy going through life being told what to do and how to behave, while someone, somewhere either looking out for you or watching over your shoulder, all the time gaining the unenviable and unwarranted reputation for being an unnecessary drain on the public purse. American Presidents (except Barack Obama, who bowed to everybody) do not bow to royalty. That's a matter of presidential protocol.

My favourite anecdote about the Queen and thatcher was, they turned up at an event and both had the same colour outfits. Thatcher wrote to the Queen apologizing and saying how embarrassed she was. The Lord Chamberlain responded thanking for her letter and advising her that Her Majesty neither notices or cares what anyone else is wearing. Another chuckle I had was when she met Nelson Mandela. Palace staff were giving him the rules and protocols about when to speak, what to call her do’s and donts etc, when he entered the room he offered his hand and said Elizabeth, how nice to meet you, I’m Nelson. Apparently, the Queen was fine with that. You also didn’t mention the German photographer doing an official portrait shoot at Buckingham Palace who addressed her as ‘Queen Lady’ and asked her to remove her hat (the Crown) because it was in the way……one of the few people asked to leave.
