    Beautiful. great campsite there. I've never been in on east side yet. I've watched a few of your vids! I went into Big Trout on June 18th in the heatwave and no one there. The birds were incredible then. longest day of the year and they were a chorus every morning starting around 4 am. Don't think they are as full on in August when I always go in. First time going in before August in 2 decades. If you have an Android phone, try the free download of "Merlin" or a couple other ones. It's a bird ID App. records, analyzes, and stores all the birds you are hearing or seeing. I'm getting to know the calls now.

    Done the trip over 50 times during 2019 and 2020 with my buddy catch and release fishing. It's well worth the trip for a measly 81m portage especially if you're staying overnight. An extra 5-10 minutes to be on a lake less trodden will always be worth it. This double portage is without a doubt the best one to take if you're planning a portage trip for kids, seniors, beginners etc. Last thing you want to do is be kilometers deep in Algonquin Park with someone who isn't ready for it.

    I've been to that park a few times, the first time I went there i camped on Big Salmon Lake, although that was so long ago I don't remember it. The past few times I've gone I went to the west side of the park, so that's the area I know a little bit. It's hard work when you can't drive to your campsite, when you have to either paddle or hike to it, but that's part of the fun, you have to really plan what to bring because you have to carry it. I load up my kayak, piled high with all my gear, with bungy chords holding everything in place, and hope I don't tip. That park is full of poison Ivy, it's everywhere, you really got to watch what you're doing, and don't go walking around in the dark, I got it so bad one year I had to go to the hospital. There's lots of nice hiking trails in that park. I'll probably visit it again sometime this summer.

      @Camp_the_woods 2 месяца назад

      Thank you for the poison ivy warning. I would like to go back as well. It’s the park closest to my home, I’ve only been once. So much to explore there. 💛

    I highly recommend you drink that nitro stout in a glass/open vessel next time. Shake the can prior to doing a heavy pour. It is phenomenal. Thank you for your winter camping too! It’s next on my list, but it’s a huge jump in preparation!

      I saw that it said to ‘shake before opening’. I’ve never seen that before and couldn’t bring myself to do it! lol i will try shaking it next time now! Must try winter camping! It’s honestly my favorite time to go - and unfortunately my busiest time of year.

    Enjoyed the video. What site where you at? My son and I will be up there hot tent camping in Dec right before Christmas! Can’t wait. They shut down the non electric campsites so we got moved to 61 from 112. Have you been around site 61 in the hydro campground?

    • @Camp_the_woods
      @Camp_the_woods 8 месяцев назад

      Hi there! I was at site 81.. normally I book I site up on the other side of the lake as there is no traffic noise. I wanted a change. The site I was just as can be seen from highway 60, so you do get some traffic noise, but it’s not very busy and dead at night. I haven’t parked at the electric sites at all. I hope you have a wonderful time!!

    Hi! I love all your videos. I'm in SW Ontario so you give me ideas of where to canoe and camp 😊 How do you like the Esker 9x9? I heard it can be tricky to put up solo. Is it big enough for 2 people. Usually it's me and my dog (who's a little bigger than Venus 💕) but very occasionally 2 people. Just trying to decide between this and the 10 x 10 Fox so would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you! Sorry you can't get out again for a while 😞

    • @Camp_the_woods
      @Camp_the_woods 9 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much for the compliment! Honestly if you can, I would go for the 10x10. It would be tight with two people and a dog in the 9x9 - not impossible but the 10x10 would be the best fit. 9x9 is best solo. It can be hard setting up on your own sometimes, so worth it though - trees are your best ‘support’ lol let me know what you decide, and maybe I’ll see you out there! ❤️

    beautiful park. I used to go all the time but I just dont like the clusters. Im going camping solo with my dog to get away from people not be right beside them. Sometimes on both sides. Any way havent been in must be 10 years. Alot of people saying theres a huge tick problem there. Any experience with that

      I totally agree with wanting seclusion. Whole purpose lol I’ve only been to that park the once, but would like to try some other lakes. It’s always booked when I look and I really seem to gravitate towards Algonquin or Kawartha Highlands - hard to beat! As for the ticks .. I did have one crawling on me when I was sitting in my camp chair by the water.
