EEE is not now, nor has it ever been, a seriously concerning public health risk in the last 200 years that we have documented cases. 10x more cases of botulism. 23x more cases of leprosy. There was 874x more cases of tuberculosis which is rising at an actually concerning rate year to year. Why report about EEE and not these other much more deadly, but still EXCEPTIONALLY RARE, infectious diseases? The bug spray is much more dangerous to your health than this EXTREMELY RARE illness. I don’t know how these people can stand there and spew this nonsense. I couldn’t fathom using my degree to stand in front of masses and mislead them so obviously… I’d walk out. Seems weird. I understand September is the month with the most new cases, but statistically we are at par or slightly below average for documented cases by first week of September. We are at 5 cases nationwide for the year but average 11 per year with temperatures about to drop to levels that prevent the spread. 🤔 To put that in perspective, toasters kill 300 people per year in the US… 27 times higher than the average number of EEE cases. There are 225 new cases of leprosy in the US each year. How is an illness causing 11 infections each year even worth a spot on the news? This is not a public health emergency. 🤦‍♂️ WCAX-TV why not buck the trend, go against the Highland Capital Management approved narrative and write an article that you know is the true and honest issue here: how state officials and mass media are blowing this completely out of proportion.
