We try to occasionally incorporate and teach hapkido techniques during our advanced/adult classes. However, there is not a specific program that primarily focuses on hapkido. If you are looking for a school that focuses on mainly hapkido, unfortunately I can not recommend our school. While the physique of a practitioner does play a role in the ability to perform certain techniques, I believe that if you understand the breakdowns, progressions, and technique of a tornado kick, it is attainable for someone of your physique. To start, you must first understand how to perform a basic roundhouse kick. Additionally, you should know how to perform a reverse turn. Once you put these two basic techniques together, you form a tornado kick. To perform a tornado kick, start in a fighting stance. Rotate over your rear shoulder so that your back is facing where your target would be. From here, swing your initial back leg (but now front leg, or the leg that matched your rear shoulder from your initial fighting stance) straight through and continue rotating the same direction until that leg is in front of you. If you performed this step properly, you should have landed in another fighting stance. From here, all you have to do is a rear leg roundhouse kick and you have successfully performed a tornado kick. Summary: 1. Start in fighting stance 2. Rotate over your rear shoulder 3. Swing your leg through and rotate to land in another fighting stance 4. Perform a rear leg roundhouse kick Once you have learned and feel comfortable with the tornado kick that stays on the ground (no jump), we then recommend progressing to the jumping version. You can even see the stack to the side thay still has the same number of broken and unbroken tiles. We believe he whittled it down or caused small cracks within the first few hits. On the final hit, he hit near the edge of the tile along the center line, resulting in less surface area for the force to disperse. We believe this point force was just strong enough, along with the possible cracks already made, to allow the tile to break by what seemingly looks like barely tapping it.
