The Dutch Who Stopped a Witch Hunt
Step into the world of witch trials and superstition with us as we visit the famous Heksenwaag (Witches Weigh House) in Oudewater, Netherlands! 👻 This eerie landmark holds a unique place in history as the only weigh house where accused witches were given a fair chance. For centuries, people traveled to Oudewater for the official weighing ceremony to prove they weren’t involved in witchcraft.
In this video, we dive into the rich history behind the Heksenwaag, why it was so trusted, and the stories of those who came here to clear their names. Join us as we tour the weigh house, examine its 16th Century scales, and uncover what made it a beacon of fairness in a dark time. We also step onto th...

I want to go there!
We highly recommend it! We’ve stayed there twice.
what fun!
wow!
so cool!
Love this!
Same in CZ republic , Kutna Hora - Kostnica
I would love to tour all the ossuaries in the future! So many beautifully ornate ones!
Gees, wearing your dead buddy wasn't enough, you litterly had to make use of his natural coin purse! Are there drugs im not aware of?
LOL thanks for watching! And your last statement gives me another idea for a video…
New channel
Yup- 8 months old. Thanks for watching!
That's cool 😮
Next time we’re in California we want to check it out. Thanks for watching!
goated video
Thank you for watching!
So cool! What a great idea!
We think so too! Love finding these unique places where the owners pour their hearts and creativity!
... And he was a certified commercial airline and helicopter pilot!
Someone needs to make a film about him someday!
Y
You know, Mark really dances like that! That rotating Marilyn Monroe mannequin (from the famous The Seven Year Itch scene) is kinda disturbing...
World best mc is in batumi
One part of the world we definitely need to get to one day! We just ranked the best in the Netherlands (in our opinion). It seems there are some amazing mc’s out there. Thanks for watching!
I didn't expect them to be indoors. Cool.
It really is a unique and unexpected place! Urban indoor camping. Three words put together = fun! Thanks for watching!
Caravans, jails, and sci-fi pod hotels - what's next? A windmill hotel? There's got to be one!
There are, and we hope to stay in one in the future (and, of course, show it to you on the channel)!
I am reminded of the Bourbaki Panorama in Luzern, Switzerland. It commemorates the "internment" of a French army that escaped to Switzerland after losing a battle to Prussian forces during the 1870-71 war. It's quite engaging, and also using 3 dimensional object in the foreground to create a more "3D" experience.
We will need to add that to our destination wish list! It is amazing how engaging panoramas can be.
Thank you ❤
Thank you for watching!
I think I'd pass on staying there, but I love the idea of touring it.
We’d recommend a visit- quite a bit to do there. Thanks for watching!
Any ghosts? There have to be ghosts of past prisoners wandering around... Have you guys thought about doing a video about a canal boat trip? It would be an interesting POV to see one of these towns/cities from the boat's-eye-view...😀
I know the Blokhuispoort has entertained ghost hunters in the past, but they don't offer ghost tours. I haven't checked what the ghost hunters said about their experiences there. We do want to do a ghost hunt for the channel at a very special place in the future. The more subscribers we get, the more our chances of being able to do that! We haven't considered a canal boat trip yet. We like to focus on the more unusual sites and activities for travelers, and the canal boat tours are already quite popular. It definitely would make for a nice (and aesthetic) view of the cities we visit, though. Thanks for the tip! If they ever had a ghost hunting boat canal tour, well then we'd be first in line!
do you need to book or just walk in?
I would recommend booking in advance just for the peace of mind. It looked like they did have some occupancy though, even in the peak season. Thanks for watching!
Just a few notes from your friend, Mr. Pedantic: 1. Liesschen is pronounced LEES-schen (well, approximately); 2. the pastry fork, or Kuchengabel, has the extra thick tine for cutting into your cake or strudel; 3. Nice Zoolander ref!; 4. Will Mark EVER stop fawning over William Shatner?
Thanks for the tips and for letting us know about that fork! Hadn’t seen one like that before- I guess I haven’t been eating enough cake!
When you grow up with and aunt and uncle that own a cafe and Konditorei (pastry shop), you get on intimate terms with the pastry fork!
@AngryTeuton We are embarrassed by our pastry ignorance. There is just one solution for that- we need to eat more pastries!
Would be cool if they had an alarm (wake-up) system integrated with the pod lighting so you wake up as the lighting gradually increases... Did you feel claustrophobic at all within the pod once you were in total darkness? Made me think of Andor when he's imprisoned in the Imperial factory...
It would be cool if they had the wake-up system but if it was optional, since many people come to Berlin to go clubbing and are going to sleep as the sun comes up. I didn’t feel claustrophobic, but I also lived for a few years in a loft in Williamsburg NYC without windows, so I was already acclimated. You can always sleep with your pod doors open as well. I saw a few people, including Mark, doing this. It does have those Andor vibes with the all white surroundings! LOL
Is the company a homegrown German firm, or are they Japanese? Japan, of course, have had these (sleep pods) for decades... Sorry about the space goo leak, River - seems appropriate given the theme!
I’m uncertain of the hostel ownership, but it owns the same prefab capsules as many space capsule hotels around Europe. However, unlike the majority, such as in Vienna, this location really tries to sell the “space” theme. Fun stay! The space goo, alas, has lingered somewhat. But the camera has been salvaged. Thanks for watching!
haha, just stayed there a month ago. Kind of cool concept, but there's not much else than the bunks and a vending machine.
I agree more amenities- like a bar- would be fun and in line with hostel trends today. It was perfect for what we needed since we were going to be spending our time out and about. Thanks for watching!
They put so much detail into this hotel, but still, they forgot to turn on the escalator.
I think it’s been out of commission for months, but I blame the building owner. At least there’s an elevator if you don’t want to get in your cardio! Thanks for watching!
Love the Wayne's World reference 😁. And nice video, it's giving us something different to experience when we are going to Amsterdam soon.
Thank you so much for watching! I hope you have a wonderful time in Amsterdam!
Creepy! In a good way!
sooo cooool!
I love Pinball!
Very cool! I was only in Antwerp for an hour on a layover. Next time I look forward to. exploring more.
We have wanted to go back to Antwerp specifically to return to Cafe Beveren!
mmmmmm garlic!
Amazing!
So many bars!! My favorite comment: “No Shit!” (to the Mozart sign); I wish you’d shown us what the reference of “More than Just Ribs” was. Also, the dig at Ridley Scott.😊
The Mozart sign was the actual name of the rib and steak restaurant. Strangely, we saw another restaurant in Antwerp called “Amadeus - The Place for Ribs.” I never knew Mozart was synonymous with ribs!
I’d be spending a helluva lot of time in this place (memories of “ Electric Carousel “ in Montebello, CA in the 70s.)
It is definitely worth a visit when in the Netherlands!
Where do you get your palliative care? Oh, I go to wombtombs.
Love the fact that you are indeed presenting a travelogue of places that are unique and interesting, and worth a visit - or in this case, an overnight stay. Those breakfasts looked AMAZING!
Thank you so much for watching our videos! More unique places (AND accommodations) to come!
Yep, I'd be going to this one, too!
We highly recommend it! Unique and delicious? What’s not to love!
Dig it!!
Terrific introduction to this wonderful establishment! Would definitely put it on my list of places to visit over there.
Saw this on a typical Dutch rainy Sunday in Amsterdam (!) in July and was wondering what do and lo and behold I found this gem in the rabbit hole. Thanx guys. Really love it. Have been living in Amsterdam for more than 55 years, and this city still amazes me. Your motto 'Stay Curious' fits the city's vibe so well. Looking forward for more of your vids (not only on Amsterdam).
Thank you so much- your comment made our day! Stay tuned- we will have some Berlin videos coming up soon!
Those are bloody large glasses Michael.
LMAO Michael Caine is my style guru!
@@TheOddWeSeeabsolutely awesome!
what ? you didn't go to the rubber duck shops ?
Perhaps it will be in a future Volume II video!
The Evoluon is such an iconic piece of 1960's futurism - thanks for showing it to us! I think Mark needs to stretch a bit more before he attempts the Funny Walks - don't want him to pull a muscle!
We really loved how much of the entire city was imbued with 1960s futurism! It gives off a very liveable retro space age vibe.
Amsterdam is the place where the lunatics have taken over the asylum.
fantastic video. the train lodge looks great. nice price.
Thank you so much for watching! It’s a fun hostel. We went back one more time.
I want to talk about your channel's problems how can i contact you
Nice video
Thank you so much for watching!
I was salivating throughout the video, especially for the Lamb Shank! Another fun video - keep it up!
Thanks for watching! So glad you enjoyed the video!
