It's time to see if someone's kid had a good idea.
Fat Head Ribbon Mic with Lundahl LL2912 Mod - How does it sound?
Thinking about modding your ribbon mic? Check out the tones captured by each of my Cascade Fat Head Ribbon Mics (stock & modded) while I play clean, then with chorus and reverb, and then with fuzz. I hope this demo helps you decide if this DIY mod is right for you. These mics are the same as the Pinnacle Fat Top.
Gear used in this demo:
Fender Twin Red Knob
Cascade Fat Head with Lundahl LL2912 transformer
Cascade Fat Head with stock transformer
Hairball Audio Lola mic pres
MOTU UltraliteMK5
Custom-built Sparklecaster with Jake Jones pickups
ProCo cables
Mod also works on Pinnacle Fat Top with the same LL2912 transformer.

The mic i use for my amp(s) is my neighbors ear drums, it usually captures the tone just right and the highs are when they drive by me on the street never having spoken to me and they give this from the steering wheel 🤘🏻🤟🏻🤙🏻
Hey did u mod it urself and if so would you be able to tell me how to solder it correctly? I just bought a lundahl Transformer for my Cascade Victor ribbon mic. I just wanna do it right
@@LotchMuziq I am not sure if the transformer configuration is the same for the Fat Head vs the Victor, but Lundahl did ship with some instructions that can help you find which side is input and which side is output on the transformer. Also, look at the leads and note their color on the transformer inside the Victor and that can help determine the input +/- from the ribbon capsule. Next, look at where the transformer connects to the XLR pins and make note of their location as they are numbered 1, 2, and 3 -- from memory I believe the Lundahl instructions had a test to determine +/- on the output. Be very careful when the ribbon capsule is exposed, don't breathe on it or subject it to any changes in air pressure/wind movement, or you could risk damaging the ribbon. Edited for pre-coffee typos.
I appriciate the response ... would u be able to send me. A photo of the lundahl Transformer inside the mic? Perhaps by email @justinmantell
