i was an extra and in the opening scene where his red Sunbeam Tiger comes around the corner. 3 people walk out of the shadows as the car rounds the turn. Im the closest child to the camera with a hat on. As a first grader, it was a thrill each week when it came on.

I think it was a made for TV movie or a short lived reboot where Smart's and Sigfried's children were kidnapped and while awaiting rescue Sigfried's kid asks Smart's "What does your father do?" "He's a writer for a greetings card company. Yours?" "He's the captain of cruise ship." Platt's son said Ed was depressed and committed suicide.

My Dad was in VietNam while the family stayed in Oklahoma. From his weekly letters, he questioned, "So, why is everyone saying, "Would you believe ..?" As we watched "Get Smart" every week, we realized just how fast that tagline had made it to VietNam.

I Remember ordering Godbluff from England as a new album. The previous album I bought in 73 , I will say Godbluff and Still life are their best albums as they are the most consistent albums with some great tunes that I will call more classical than rock ! All their albums up to and including World record are good, even tough world record may show first signs of strain , THat said Hammill never were able to make solo albums nearly as good as the fabulous Foursome (5 initially with Potter )

Thank you for posting this. When I was a kid, a million years ago my two favorite shows were Get Smart & Batman! If I did something wrong that annoyed my parents, 'THAT'S IT, NO GET SMART OR BATMAN FOR A WEEK!" I would cry go to my room upstairs, cry, and then sneak down those old stairs to watch it from what I could see from the front entrance sideways, but the creaky stairs almost always gave me away! My Mom made Batman & Robin costumes for me and my older brother, and we would share a bicycle and ride to our neighbors house and throw rocks at them, then bike away! Oh such good times, but not if their kids nailed us first! Today's kids would run away and call the police and whine like Gurly men!

I ;oved Get Smart as a kid but never saw it as funny. It was a spr shoot up show with funny stuff in it. Strange to thunk adukts would like it. Winning prizes? It shows how inferior tastes were back then. It did well with kids in repeats and thatrs why its great. As usual the people behind it and on camera are not so SMART and good. liked the opening too.

I'm 48, I was born 10 years after this show aired but I have very vivid memories or coming home from school excited to watch another episode when I was in elementary school. No matter how bad my day was, I could always count on the comedic genius of this show to bring light into my day. Thank you Don and the rest of the cast for helping many of us see joy in the world.. From the comments, it's very obvious that this show touched many of us. Fun fact that he played Inspector Gadget. Looks like he effected my childhood in more ways than I knew!!

An example of how perfect the comedy writing is. From S1E9 “Satan Place”. The Chief has been kidnapped and Max, 99 and (I think it was) Hodgkins discussing how to raise $200K to pay the ransom. Max is explaining to 99 that they can’t go running to The State Department every time they have a little problem. 99: Well what about Congress Max? They could put through a special appropriation? Max: How long would that take? 99: Three months. Max: What if it was an emergency? 99: (after a brief pause) Four months. HA! Classic. Brilliant writing!
