Thanks for your great comments, Cedric! How wonderful that you are still playing duets in your 80’s! ☃️💗💪🎹🎶
Loved that! And they had it all memorized, too. Good pedaling and strong fingers. I church, the organist and I played 3 sacred piano duet carols for each Sunday of Advent (but ours were not memorized. Probably because we adults are both in our mid 80s and TIME is a factor.
Very helpful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!❤ check out the other levels too!
Replete video. Im pondering on purchasing the hype mic. Your voice came through clearer than smart water 9.5ph, when you powered on the hype mic. The 3 lights sound was smoothest. I usually recorded from the MB pro internal mic when using garage-band. But i need to upgrade. I wonder if there is a new Apogee HypeMic coming out soon? Greatly appreciate your time making this video. Btw your piano skills are perfection. A+++ ⏳
Balance was on point. Patience was key 🎹🔑 Peace
Thanks for your kind comment! That was 10 years ago, but he still surfs when he is home!
@@wenjenpiano absolutely, you’re welcome. Glad to hear that :)
Random question 🙋🏿♂️ Do you ever create piano instrumentals using garage band or logic pro? They have every piano you can think of. The reason i ask would you be able to teach someone how to play a virtual piano, using a iPad or iPad pro. God bless you ✌🏿
I don't use garage band much any more. I use Finale with my students for composition. I think that if you're not actually learning to play on an instrument, you can probably teach yourself to read music and play on an app if you are just using an iPad. It won't translate to actual piano playing very well though, but could still be fun!
@@wenjenpiano ill do some research on Finale. I think my ears understand the piano key notes, when i make beats virtually. But like you said my hands do not know the fundamentals of piano key notes. Until recently i never knew a piano could output such powerful bass lines. It has been fun creating. I’ll work on my piano skills tho, EGBDF 🤷🏿♂️ 🤔 I appreciate your guidance & time, ma’am Thank you
thank you so much! I have one question, so i’m preparing for my level 5 exam and for the ear training playback, will the examiner ask me playback melodies from the sight reading book are will they make up different melodies?
I think they usually use different ear training and sight reading exercises. However, sometimes they may have you clap a rhythm, and then use the same exercise for playback. Good luck with your exam!
@@wenjenpiano alright thank you! 🙏
Awkward
So glad it is helpful! Try putting on the metronome, counting yourself in and keeping the beat with your foot, and continue tapping your foot with the metronome while you clap!
I've had three piano teachers in my life and none of them did clapbacks. That was so helpful. I'm going to clap out rhythms at random from sheet music, especially the left hand part. I think that will be very helpful. I get so wrapped up in reading the notes and dynamics that I don't "feel" the rhythm.
Please follow me and turn on notifications so you know when I drop my next video!
Excellent ! Don't give up on your goals !
Wow 👏👏👏👏👏Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Big like from your new friend 👍
Thank you!
Your video is so easy to understand. My daughter loves it. Please make more!
Thanks for your kind comment! I will make more videos when I can! ❤
😮❤
Please note error at 2:10. That chord is AUGMENTED, not Major! 😮
I know this is an older video, but I just came across it. I have a piano exam today and this helped lots! Thanks! 😊
I’m so glad it helped! Good luck on your piano exam!☘️🎶
Thank you so much! This helped a lot. Can you post another video of how to differentiate and know the different majors and minors properly? I’m having a lot of trouble with some of them…
?
Irene? More like I lean.
Can you do a level 8?.
❤
thanks for the tips on how to identify chords. this help a lot + subbed and liked :)
Ahh yes, I liked the part where you rotated the bench nob 270 degrees.
I really like your tutorial about recognizing intervals and pitch. Please make more like this one.
Thanks Elvis! Glad the interval and pitch tips helped you! Check out the other levels for more practice!
1:45 whoops, believe those two are minor and major thirds, not sixths
Oops! You are correct! Those are 3rds! Thanks for catching that!! 🧐

Thank you so much for this!
You're welcome! Good luck with your testing!
Great job Mady 😊
Thank you for doing this-I wanted to hear a woman’s speaking voice with this mic.
You're welcome! Even though my voice is low and carries, I do think that it really gives more depth to my voice than the built-in mic or the other mic.
Thank you.
Set up tutorial using a DAW like Logic Pro? I'm having trouble achieving consistency. I like to monitor mic input but some vocalist don’t. How do I set that up? How do I set up Talkback using Mac’s built-in microphone and have it work in conjunction with the HypeMic? I use Audio Midi Set Up > Audio Devices, but it gives me technical difficulties more often then not. Is there a better way to do this or am I setting up my input and outputs wrong?
Hi Brian! Sorry, but I don't use Logic Pro! Good luck! I'm sure there is a RUclips video on that!
Nice work, will be making soon!
I am afraid, that this mic used in the way as it shown on video is useless case. For zoom calls it's waste of 300 bucks. You can hardly play on piano and take good sound from that kind of mic in distance more than 40 inches. It's perfect for voiceovers, singing and direct taking of instrumental sound. The mic characteristic is cardioid, so it's important that you have to speak/play on mic with direct attack. Taking sound from behind your back, or aside, is lame fault. That's not how this mic is made for. You'll do better job with decent acoustic absorption panels (cost is much less than mic) on walls and shotgun mic hunged above the piano. Or you may in modest mode use dual lavalier mics. Also using B&O headphones is not the great advantage. The sound in these kind of commercial hdphones is strongly enhanced to fine commercial recordings and mainly you need to hear flat, raw output from the mic to "know the truth". In other words, "they lie" and make reality more beautiful. So, maybe late, but it's for all viewers. In my humble opinion, this mic is useful and very easy to join to any apple or pc device, but not proper instrument for this usage. You can do better job with other devices for third of its price or for 300$ you may build your home studio much better.
Actually, the Hypemic has been excellent for teaching online lessons, where hearing my voice for piano instruction is as important as hearing the instrument! I've been teaching online piano lessons for almost a decade, and the students have all said that listening to lessons the other end is far better when using this USB mic, which easily connects to my iPad, computer, and phone, without having to having to plug into a mixer! I have since purchased a mixer and another mic just to record my Steinways, but my Hypemic is still the one I prefer for online piano teaching...and my helps me keep my Two-Year Waitlist going! Here is another video with sound comparisons! ruclips.net/video/6xTj_Fr-vwE/видео.html
@@wenjenpiano Hi, thanks for your reply and attached link. I've heard a few of your videos due to searching some piano techniques. It is Ok. However, in my humble opinion, I still recommend some minor acoustic absorbers on the walls for much present and clean sound. This is crucial in sound quality of your videos. There are a lot of possibilities and not very expensive! I personally use my Apoggee for some additional work as dubbing, voice overs and other options. It's ideal tool when someone asks me to do voice casting and I am out of town and my home studio. It's very small and capable device to record on ipad or iphone with surprising results. It has its typical limits, which I see just in the three very brutal steps of compression. As I see (and hear), your problem is very often distorted sound, which has its root in wide range and specific colour of the piano sound. It is too wide and full, which sounds in the mic compression quite limited. This is really pity. I am not professional pianist, but I am using my piano as integral tool in some composing work. I don't like recordings based on midi keyboards, so I always prefer make recording of leading piano track with live ambiance sound. Even with some innacuracies it has much better feeling. The main trick is the direction, from where you're taking the sound. It's always good to shoot the situation from above to catch higher and much detailed aliquotes. I see your studio is small, with the low ceiling, half of your work is done. Recently I found unusual but surprisingly very useful solution. To take the live piano I am using my pocket recorder Tascam DX-40x which serves also as USB interface (to any Mac or PC). Tascam takes much bright ambient sound of my Petrof piano which has much warm and rounded tones. To record singing parts in the track (doesn't matter if this is for record or stream) you may put another line to recorder - I prefer dynamic Audix OM2 or whatever. The almost same work as DX-40x will do with lower budget Tascam DR-05 or Zoom H1n or H2n (little difficult controlling) or little higher H4n Pro. I still prefer Tascam (I have few of them) regarding to sound quality of all live instruments. It's natural, exactly as it is in reality. And that's the main goal. No additives at the start. 🙂 This regards headphones as well. The first rule says: No lies to your ears! So the audio profile needs to be flat or studio (we say studio monitors). Means Bang and Olufsen (or Bose) are great, to enjoy the greatest albums of all times, and with all the profi work of sound engineers. Really great, but you'll not hear the real sound of Steinway or Yamaha or Fazioli (my favourite) pianos! I may recommend some quite expensive as Beyerdynamic DT770 (king of studio monitors), AKG Pro Audio K240 (!great price!) or Sennheiser HD 599 (unbeatable feeling). Above all I prefer Audio-Technica ATH-M40x. They are little cheaper and simply great. With cable, of course! The less expensive tool (just a little less durable) is taiwanese Superlux 669F or any else (where F is for "flat") - it will do great job as well. They have also headset versions, with detachable microphone for speaking. (highly enjoyable during video lessons!) Of course, You may equipe the studio with semiprofi solution with mixing console and dynamic microphones (always elegant, direct and easier to stream). However, I feel that, to use at Zoom lessons it's over complicated and the preliminary compression sometime is not the most perfect tool to enjoy the decent sound. But, but, but! If you often record your work, and you're not keen to have recording studio, I may suggest, that field recorders (which some of them serves as USB interface) definitely should step into your musical focus! They are versatile and make a lot of good work. All. the best. Patrick
@@patrickfridrichovsky3909 thanks for these great suggestions! I'll be sure to check them out and pass them along! I don't consider myself an expert with audio by any mean; I've just been teaching online lessons for a long time - 10 years, back when we just used whatever we had - FaceTime and Skype! My students are often looking for mics to plug into their phones, iPhone or Android. What do you suggest for a mic for under $50 and one priced under $75?
You said that an augmented triad was major - please correct your error! Otherwise we are loving these to help us with ear training. Thanks
Hi! Perhaps you are talking about when I said that an augmented triad was a major triad with a raised 5th? I was explaining that to create an augmented triad, you start with a major triad, and then raise the 5th to create the augmented triad. Please let me know i there is anything else that I may have missed! Glad you are enjoying these videos!
@@wenjenpiano Hi! No, I believe that they are referring to 2:10 of your video, where you played an augmented triad and called it major. Let me know if I am incorrect (I am currently a level 7 student). Thanks and I love your informative videos!
@@RedhoodTheNatureGirl That was definitely augmented and NOT major! Oops!😅 Glad you caught that! I don’t think I can correct that without uploading a new video. I’ll make a note of it!
Only records sound with headphones???
No, you don’t necessarily need headphones. I think I was using my ipad to record, and since I had the mic plugged into USB-C, I used my headphones when I played it back so I could har it. You could also play it back on another device. It’s just handy that there is a headphone jack!
Thanks!
You're welcome!

Hi! I really enjoy these trainings but I’m not sure what other sections there are to ear training? Are there only three? The triads, chord progression, and intervals?
Hi! I’m so glad you are enjoying the ear training! What type of auditions are you preparing to perform? Royal Conservatory? Certificate of Merit? What level? Each program has different requirements and you should check the syllabus for requirements.
@@wenjenpiano Hi! I'm going to have an exam for level 7 soon in Royal Conservatory and I'm a little confused so may I ask what requirements I need for ear training?

Owned one in the 90th. Not bad, but for today a little bit outdated.
Surprisingly, the sound is still great! I used to use it for accompanying piano concertos in my second piano studio before I had two grand pianos! You never have to tune it!
@@wenjenpiano it was one of the really first (good) weighted keyboards which is mixing up lots of samples for each note depending on attack and other factors. And with a Sostenuto. And also the speaker is really well sounding.
@@farbschlachterei yes, I agree! It is amazing how much the prices have come down now for quality digital pianos! Some of my students have purchased the disklavier and they really like the dual acoustic/digital crossover!
