    Quick Tip- if you are shooting corporate vids, you will find a printer/copier at basically every single space you shoot in. Grab a piece of their paper, and use it as your white balance card. You don't need that impact thing.

      You're right, I wouldn't say it's a key piece of my kit but I think it's better than asking the client for a piece of paper just gives off that impression that you aren't prepared. I find the TrekPak not that great, they bend after sometime. What I have done now, is buy 6mm Correx board and make up dividers with two sheets glued together. I don't bother with foam on the board either. So long as I don't want to move dividers constantly, the dividers are fixed to the case sides. Then I am now using semi-hard foam sheet, 50mm thick, that is cut out to fit whatever, like lens, bodies etc.I also invested in Sony plug on transmitter and reciever system, no cables required.

    Is it overkill to get a 600x pr 200xs from amara or any 200w light?

    • @Cinovamedia
      @Cinovamedia 6 месяцев назад

      It all depends on the type of content you are doing. I personally believe a 200-300W light is the minimum amount of firepower you should have in a light you may not use all of the power but with the extra power you can diffuse your light more or even double diffuse it for a softer look. I think at some point I'll have to invest in a 500-600W light myself because with corporate work you cant really control the space you are given for interviews or B-roll and in a situation where you have to expose for the inside as well as not blowing out your highlights if there's windows showing the outside of the space it's really hard to expose for both with a 300W light, the sun is just too powerful to fight it. But if you arent shooting in places with windows, or you can control the space you are given or have the budget to hire a gaffer who can bring their own gear then you might not need such a powerful light. I think a 200-300W light is a good middle ground wattage, it's not too big and bulky like a 600D but you have more output than a aputure 120D.

    • @b2dgmedia
      @b2dgmedia 6 месяцев назад

      @@Cinovamedia I appreciate the response. I do have the 200xs and a 300c, but I haven't gotten a chance to use them for any interview gigs. It's mostly been in a tight office for podcasts. But I do find I need a larger light source to light the entire set. With the lights hanging in a low drop ceiling, the area above a tall shelf is darker, which makes the mood a little dark for what a client wants.

    • @Cinovamedia
      @Cinovamedia 6 месяцев назад

      @@b2dgmedia yeah depending on big the space is if you can bounce a 200X off a white ceiling or wall it can do a pretty decent job of adding some fill to the entire scene I did that for a medspa shoot I was on. I havent had any issues with these cards and ive had them for about a year and a half now, but in the past with cheaper cards I have experienced failure, both mechanically with the plastic and internally with the chip getting to hot and melting. OOfff... I've fired crew for packing like that. NEVER transport the FX3 wit the handle on like that (unless you have a specific case for it, and even then...) Throwing heavy objects in WITH the gimbal? nope. ...and if you have travelled before a couple things seem odd: 1) you are trying to pack the batteries in CHECKED bags, 2) media badges take 5 minutes to make (not an issue), 3) I get the Pelican cases, but there are SO many brands out now with same quality for what you need at half the price (and who doesn't buy foam when buying cases like these? 4) no big issue with packing a case in a case (ie, the lights), but you are wasting space AND weight here. If I saw someone packing $20k of gear like this, I would question their sanity. Please take better care of your equipment. Buuuuuttt...ending on a good note... you can't go wrong with the FX3 (may just be a little overkill for what you are doing, but still an amazing machine)

    • @Cinovamedia
      @Cinovamedia 8 месяцев назад

      Haha, I didn’t realize how controversial my packing would be. I appreciate the feedback though, I am by no means an expert. I just do what has worked for me in the past. In an ideal situation I wouldn’t travel with the FX3 handle attached, but unfortunately it’s a weird shape and I can’t really find a better way to make it fit into a small carry on pelican. 1) I might have been unclear but the Vmount batteries are actually in our 1535 air cases so these are our carry ons, I would never put a Vmount in a checked bag. 2) I have my own media badge so I can check in 2 overweight bags, the rest of my team does not however so I do need to create some for them, for now I have them check the lighter underweight bags while I check the overweight bags. 3) I use pelican simply because it’s a brand I trust, they haven’t let me down and no point in experimenting with a new brand. I have gotten feedback about the way I pack the light, it does make sense to order some foam or trekpak to maybe have some more space in the case but I do it because checked bags especially don’t get treated well…better to protect the light very well so it still turns on by the time I reach my destination. I might get some additional foam. I didn’t show the “final” pack since I was still organizing some things until we actually left so I did throw in some foam to protect the more delicate objects such as boom poles and stuff. Yeah the grip head with the gimbal probably wasn’t the best idea, still works though! Although in the final pack we did pack a few More things such as a Vmount battery charge so it was a lot more of a tighter fit so I think it helped things from banging around. I really appreciate the feedback, I am very fluid on how and what I pack, once we get a few more shoots under our belt we can change the way we pack and even determine what gear doesn’t need to come with us next time. And yes the FX3 is pretty sweet, affordable, great image, travels well. I’ve packed like this for various shoots for big clients and it’s worked for me so far but you do have a good point in making sure the gear is protected. I might address this in a future video that goes more in-depth. I appreciate the feedback!

      Yeah I understand there is a tiny bit of risk when travelling, I've been traveling with the lenses attached to the camera for years, if the Sony FX3 top handle wasn't such a weird shape I would travel without the top handle being attached as well. I didn't fully show how I packed the gimbal but I stripped it down completely for travel. If I was travelling with expensive camera packages such as an ARRI or RED I would obviously pack with more care but the sonys have been perfect for travel so far with top handle and lens attached.

    How does the autofocus perform with the Sigma zooms and fx3? If you get more budget for additional gear I would look into the Falcon eyes lights. They're great for traveling. Super lightweight. You could probably fit at least 3 mats in that pelican case.

      After using the sigma 24-70 on the FX3 I can def notice it’s less accurate than my Sony Gmaster 24-70mm mk1 good for most scenarios but I notice sometimes it randomly loses focus, doesn’t happen all the time but I feel like I gotta babysit the camera more ready to hit touch focus when it focuses on other things. The 70-200mm seems to do good the autofocus is a lot faster than my personal 70-200mm mk1 on our shoot it did randomly lose focus in an interview setting, wasn’t the end of the world and I had the producer be the cam op so he was able to fix that very quick. I’ve never heard of the falcon eyes lights, are they bright? Big reason for bringing the aputure 300X is that it’s pretty bright and can work with soft boxes etc.

Would it be beneficial to stuff one or two of the Pelicans with foam and cut custom inserts for the lighting? Or do you need the bags for the lights? I know I'm going to need to upgrade my lighting soon, which means I'll have to start checking gear so I am considering my options.

    • @Cinovamedia
      @Cinovamedia 8 месяцев назад

      It's certainly a nice kit not perfect but for standard shoots it's pretty much got everything covered, I've seen a few people save some space by not using the aputure bag it comes with and packing the lights with foam inserts and cutouts, the main reason for now I'm not doing it is strictly because...the people at the airport do not care about your luggage at all, it gets thrown and banged around and the bag seems to protect the light pretty well inside of the pelican, I also like the freedom of being able to pack more things into the case as when you use a foam or trekpak insert you lose a little bit of space, atleast this way if I needed to I can pack this case really tightly with random accessories like stingers, grip heads etc. and not have to worry about rearranging inserts for different shoots, I'm very fluid with this system, especially as we figure out the range of shoots we will be doing the way I pack things could change, I'm always learning myself. Pro tip: get a media badge for travel! It will save you with overage fees or extra bag fees, super easy to make one in photoshop and then laminate it, I'm about to create some for the rest of the team that will travel with me to help with checking bags and other luggage.

      In our kit we added a pair of sennheiser MKE 600's, we use those as our main "boom" mics for interviews, if I need natural sound, I usually just use the onboard mics on the FX3 for audio, it's decent in a pinch and since alot of these projects require quick setup from gimbal to handheld to tripod most times I run the FX3 stripped down without any accessories to save on time. If we are using boom mics for like an interview we just plug it right into the XLR top handle so we dont waste time syncing audio.

    Do you pack your equipment with the expectation of how you are going to film it or do you pack everything you need for the worse case scenario?

      In video production my mindset is to have a backup of every key item I will need, if a camera were to die on me or a light were to stop working I make sure to keep some sort of backup or other piece of gear to help make up for it. Sometimes I overpack but it’s all a learning process, it’s always better to overpack than underpack in my opinion.

    Sorry dude! That is messed up! You got a cheap teleprompter on amazon and used it and expect to return it since you wont need it anymore? When did amazon become a rental service? It is bullshit like that that makes it hard for the rest of us. You are driving our cost up with your cheapyosity! It has become a joke that women buy dresses and don't remove the price tag so they can return it the next day. People like you screw it up for the rest of us. Like you did not make enough money on the job to pay for it? You probably expect Biden to forgive your student debt and rent as well. Sorry, did not watch past that point because I was too pissed.

    I think it was Philip Bloom who said that 50% of video production is moving furniture. 😄 Keep it up brother. Your gaining traction quick.
