I hooked a MONSTER trout | This didn’t end how I would have liked
In this video I hook into what I thought was a monster lake trout. Foul hooked fish fight like crazy, it was still a large fish but not near as big as I had thought.

That ones dinner
Should have kept him
fisherman hooks fish and is surprised it’s bleeding
I hooked it in the back. It was bleeding from the gills.
Had this happen once with a pike. I was torn up about it for days, it was such a big, pretty, strong fish. I hope he made it.
What did you use for bait?
That was just a worm sitting on the bottom
Why not just keep it and eat it at that point?
He dead
Yall will do anything but eat a fish
Massive trout
Thanks man
@@FirstManFishing no prob keep making videos bro and they are filmed and edited perfect btw
@@gabrielpollard3400 thanks alot I really appreciate that.
The best things in life are free
Catch it
I went fishing with a doctor. One time he did this pulled out a little pocket knife, heated it up and cauterized the spot on his gills that was bleeding. It worked
Then it swam off and died
@@ChromeBulllet😂 most likely from internal bleeding
Good thing to always carry a small bottle of Sprite. It will help the blood clot up and stop at the bleeding
Explain? How’d you even find this out? Also ima start bringing sprite when I go fish
@williamsduran3232 I learned it from an old fisherman who taught it to me and now you're going to do it. Just make sure it still has carbonation it can't be flat.
Pouring coke or Pepsi on the gills will stop the bleeding from a gill hooked fish. It works well I've done it twice
I’ll give it a try next time I have a bleed. This fish was actually foul hooked on the dorsal fin. I was surprised he bleed. Check out the full video.
Should have just ate it, now it's turtle food.
Dip head of a finish nail in your pupil color, the excess will "hang" down with nail held vertical, point up. One light touch will leave a round drop of paint. Paint job looks very good Sir. (can also be used for the Yellow in your design with larger headed nail). Best of luck
Thanks for the tips!
Eat the F’n thing.
That was a big fish why did you let him go?
The pike and eagles gotta eat too.
Just caring is enough brother
Damn man this is the worst my pb small mouth from 5 years ago gutted my hook while i was fishing with a plastic craw. I got the hook out revived the fish and he swam off about 40 minutes later i saw him go belly up in the middle of the crick i felt horrible dragged him in and took him home to my grandfather. With it being a fish of that size there was no way i could let it sit there and rot.
That was dinner bro shouldn't have let him go. I mean something will eat him but might as well been you.
Sure does. We do our best. Good post. Even catch and release fishing is a blood sport. At least you’re not posting videos of you releasing trout through the ice after they swallow your minnow and run 100yards before you set the hook. Cheers
Swear to god coffee or a energy drink will stop the bleeding
Takes a lot more than that to kill a laker! I’m sure he was fine. But even if he wasn’t, that’s a lot of good nutrients going back into that ecosystem! Nothing will go to waste.
What bait?
Rapala countdown elite
That trout is donezo after losing that amount of blood. Not keeping this fish is pure waste
Far from a monster
I definitely wouldnt call this one a monster. The one in the link wasn’t bad, it was right at 34”.
If the water is shallow and the stones are sharp they can beat themselves to death during the fight. Same in shalow water with stones never just drop the fish in, especially big ones they can get injuries from hitting the bottom. Looks more like that beat its self up during the fight, as you seemed to be gentle releasing and genuinely care about the fish.
Built a little rock pool for it to recover in, and if it dont make it by the end of your session, you can always retrieve it for dinner. When trout fishing here in Ireland, i always build a little rock pool as soon as i set up, trout can be hit or miss geting them to fully recover before releasing them back.
That's a good idea= I do something similar at the beach in tide pools. Also, I know I won't catch the same fish twice!
That's the best idea I ever heard of
Admirable but ultimately unnecessary. Mortality is part of fishing including catch and release. It won’t go to waste either way.
@@erikdeeNOSPELLSNO I hooked a bowfin 2 weeks ago but it pulled my hook off the line, not even 10 minutes later my brother caught him and got my hook back
@@kokuokirai1103 Good one! I was spearfishing (snorkeling) for sea trout (kelp greenlings) and my spear skipped off one, when I got to shore, my friend surfcasting had caught one with three fresh scratches on him!
Some times you have to make rice and vegies to have with them😁👍
I agree
I would have called him dinner
Coca Cola on the gills. Yeah it’s a thing. Pinch the barbs if you know how to fish you don’t need them!
I’ll try the cola thing. This guy was actually foul hooked on the back. I don’t think this injury was because of the hooks
Sorry but that's why I think it is a shit hobby
It happens brother his fine👍🏾💯
Should have just kept it at that point, that’s our fav fish to eat in my area
How do you usually cook them. Looking back I could of had some nice fillets to smoke off this one.
@@FirstManFishingfilet the meat, cover in flour, light egg wash, panko, salt pepper, pan sear in 1/4” of oil both sides until golden, serve with tarter or garlic Aioli.
@@FirstManFishing smoking is good, I like making fish cakes with some onion, garlic, jalapeno, and bread crumbs, or just grill
Unfortunately should have kept it.
This is why I hate catch and release. If you're going to catch it eat it.If not just leave it alone stay at home and watch the fishing shows
That fish definitely swam off and died. Sht happens, but it did no good releasing that fish.
This happened a couple days ago to me with a small trout. Was really upset. :(
Sometimes fish bleed at the gills when their stressed..
This is kind of what I’ve been thinking. I’m not sure if you watched the whole video but I had foul hooked him so he fought for way too long.
Always been a blood sport
This mackinaw is likely bleeding because when you hooked the fish, it was in very deep water! ♤♤♤
He was maybe in 5-10’ we’re still pretty cold so they’re sitting shallow.
Personally I FISH TO EAT 😋😋😋. Can't say how many times I see nice size fish FLOATING AROUND IN THE WATER FROM YOU CATCH AND RELEASE GUYS 😜😜😜
Just checked out the video. Crazy battle. You shoulda cooked it over some driftwood shoreside!
If you cant clean a fish, you shouldn’t be hooking them in the first place. In my opinion you should only catch and release lip hooked fish outside of desired target size or species. We have simplified life so far that one will go to drive thru and quick mart on a day they catch and release enough fish to feed a family. Act with intentions and respect towards the land. I appreciate you sharing this, it’s something we all go through. It will only make you a stronger and wiser man.
I don’t have a problem cleaning a fish at all, I just don’t like to keep these big lake trout. Watch the full video, this fish wasn’t hooked anywhere near his gills.
@@FirstManFishing Glad to hear that, I released a brownie over 15in because it was my first cast and can only keep one over 12in, and i think my luck has been suffering since. It traumatized me to watch what I thought was a safe release…float down the river upside down. I immediately went and bought a rubber net that night and a rainbow jumped out of the net himself the next day. Didn’t even have to hold the little guy. It doesn’t need to be hooked, you can pop their blood line with your finger, or crush their organs holding in your hand. As soon as you see blood or no movement/floating upside down, it’s time to be ethical and take it out of its misery. Thanks for taking the time to respond and make content free for everyone to binge.
Assume much??
@@daveulrich4623 about you, yes.
@@daveulrich4623 no. I got all the info I needed when he seemed surprised a fish that he’s essentially hunting happens to bleed. The stream is not a petting zoo for your enjoyment.
Yum yum No problemo
It happens
You did your best, that's all you can do. Weird things happen, I've accidentally injured fish myself
Thanks man
I'm from the UK. Caught a good brown trout on a floating creature lure, single hook and barbless too. I hooked him right in the middle of the top lip and the same thing happened to me. I rested him in the net for about an hour until the bleeding stopped and he swam off in the end.
Noooo...
