I have yet to encounter one of these “we should be afraid of super AI because” scenarios that actually make sense. For example, here the narrator literally says that super AI “will know what you want before you know that you want it”. Yet somehow the AI will jump from knowing us BETTER THAN WE KNOW OURSELVES, to not knowing that it should not prioritize “efficiency” over humans wanting to remain alive. And please don’t tell me that he said “prioritize efficiency”, because efficiency is subjective. Therefore in this case it could ONLY be efficiency to better serve humans. It would be pointless for a supposedly Super AI to prioritize making widgets over the very existence of humans since there would be no humans to use and enjoy the widgets after the AI kills us off. IT MAKES NO DAMN SENSE ! Sure, a Super AI might “decide”that it is too dangerous for individual humans to have the means to kill off 100 people, but we already have such restrictions. Would a Super AI decide that it is too dangerous for an individual to go sky diving ? Probably not, the AI might simply deploy billions of nanobots around the skydiver as he/she descends from the plane but if the person find themself in imminent danger, the nanobots would simply form a backup parachute or some kind of device to “escort” the individual safely to the ground. I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade but I have yet to hear of a plausible scenario to justify all this fear, except for the “natural” propensity for some people to always find something “to be afraid of”.
