The Swiss Cellist Maja Weber of the Stradivari Quartett plays currently the 1717 Bonamy Dobree Stradivarius Cello criated by the master Stradivari from the B mold 757mm lenght. This instrument belonged first to the Italian-Portuguese Cellist Guilhermina Suggia, today in possession of Habisreutinger Foundation in loan to Maja Weber.

After hearing them play the final Schubert Gmajor, I wanted to hear their approach to K 575 and I am satisfied that the Strad Quartet is in the same big league as quartets such as the Dover.

Much as I have listened to this quartet I find it so unsettling, full of anger, dejection but unhealthily compelling. It is art at its greatest but is it something you would want to share? No Beethoven munificence, little Schubertian sunshine . Little consolation. Deep but almost soulless.

I wonder if Schubert subcontracted the composition of this work to Beethoven. It could easily be the sixth late quartet. magnificent playing.
