Henson and Berthoud; Playing God with INSANE MIDI drums
Просмотров 53Год назад
Charles Berthoud covered Polyphia's 'Playing God' on the bass. João Destro added Tim Henson's unplugged guitar performance so they appear to be playing the tune together. This version adds a further layer of INSANE MIDI drums, all programmed by Something Jaggy - done just with a mouse in Logic Pro using a groove template extracted from the bass vamp in the Chic classic, Le Freak. The drum sound...

With Sting Murmurations, it works much better if you prolong the MIDI notes further to better meet the natural flow of the samples it uses. Now each of them are cut off pretty abruptly mid-sample, and therefore, it doesn't flow in a natural manner. Or maybe you cover this point in your next video?

Hi Andy, thanks… you are right of course. SM has different-length loops on different pitches that evolve and ‘murmurate’ polyrhythmically. I have done a bit of Melodyne analysis on these and had wondered if people would be interested… I had also been thinking of doing a half-tempo ‘remix’ at the end of the series just to show off what you describe. 😉 It might be cool with a much larger randomization of note start-points like I suggest in the captions., and it ties into the SM ‘harmonic abuse’ that I will talk about in the next vid! If this pt-2 video gets a bit more traction, I will certainly do it all!

Christian explains this well in this video at about 5:10 ruclips.net/video/aD4CGCygFRA/видео.htmlsi=L1-f1Vpt3Qku-3fv Block chords don’t work brilliantly, I think scalar gives you a great starting point, you just then need to go in and merge common MIDI tones and offset the start and end of the notes. Also, don’t forget to set the key as this affects the murmurations!

Cool, but you could also use the chord suggestions. The mod interface is meant for modulating to another key.

Thanks for the comment. The Scaler suggestions are great, but the Mod section is not just for 'changing key'. The manual says of it: "Explore more content related to your selected scale, borrow chords from a relative mode, find a secondary scale to modulate to and discover Scaler suggested progressions." Google 'mediant substitution'... it is a thing.

Thanks. I will do another one soon. I did not tell you about some of the quirky things going on with the pitches, so we will explore that along with some more general tips and tricks to develop things...
