He is so like usyk...they throw volume punches and hardly ever miss the target...rest in Peace champ...never ever forgotten
My grandad served on Diadem in the 2nd World War
In a way you've got to put Kirkland Laing down as wasted talent; you've got to marvel at his boxing skills, but his lack of discipline cost him badly in (not) picking up a world title. Anyone who can beat Duran is a special fighter, and Laing was certainly that - he had the skills of Sugar Ray Leonard (well almost) - who lost, won, and won against Duran. RIP Kirk and thanks for leaving behind such good boxing memories. Thanks for uploading this video of the people's champ.
Absolutely phenom video … listening to each veteran tell his story!
My Dad kept quiet about it....HMS Exeter..their battle was 1st March when they tried to get away from that crazy campaign. with no plan
now its come down to this...sickening.....ruclips.net/video/6m7AMZBl5XI/видео.htmlsi=jQ0fwA41AyhvIzAV
@@WELLBRAN EXETER took some incred incoming from the IJN. I can imagine him remaining quiet. Java Sea was such a tragedy … yet “bravery tough to see.” Was at the USS HOUSTON memorial this AM and thought about all the allied ships that fought so bravely yet went down. Going to post your video on my wwii Twitter page. This is the best video on Java sea
@kwstewart its a story never told in any books...and also when I tell people what happened to my Dad and after in Japan slave labour they simply dont believe me they think im a crank telling stories

Trouble with boxing is it messes your head up. Suddenly you are watching videos from 18 years ago about 20 times. And still not bored of the show.
It’s seriously addictive lol 😂
And am bringing it back
That's my grandad
This man was an incredible talent will be sadly missed
Kirk v Laing ?
I was AT GANGES IN 75 it was not nasty at all, someone is talking rubbish, although rumours did abound about older classes in the past.
My father went and was prepared for it he was a boxer and he trained in a gym and he was a sailor here in Cornwall anyway had his own small boat at 14..he knew of the stories ..but even he said when he got there first he felt like running away,..that was 39/40...he signed in Plymouth for 12 yrs he had not quite got to age 16....here is his story...ruclips.net/p/PL_qb4YkbxuQyKNt9GdVOy-TIePHQhv7QQ&si=F1vQCxHViNu2wmTX
My great grandad served on HMS Penelope, RIP to all those who served!
John M. Selby, my dad in blue jacket talking about the torpedoes toward the end of video loved the ship these men and others aboard the Saufley. There was a big print of a sailing ship on the wall in the living room and he would put pictures of his grandchildren along the bottom edge of the frame and he had 2 pictures of red haired little girls that he lovingly referred to as his 2 little adopted Irish granddaughters. If I recall correctly they were Henry Fox’s granddaughters. I am glad this video is on u-tube as it is really good to be able to hear his voice and watch him speak!
My father was signalman on Exeter
I’m sorry to have to explain that Bob Dylan did not record the song Sink the Bismarck. It was an American country singer named Johnny Horton. The song was inspired by the movie of the same name. Johnny Horton died not long afterwards in a plane crash. He had another big hit with The Battle of New Orleans.
The HMS Ganges mast has now been completely renovated and replaced - great to see the return of such an iconic landmark and hats off to Wavensmere for prioritising its restoration. It is a fitting monument to the 160,000 Boys who trained at HMS Ganges and served in the Royal Navy. There is a museum at Shotley Gate dedicated the history of the establishment - details can be found online.
my uncle went to Ganges in 1965 as 15 year old nozzer climbed the Ganges mass when he was there as well, retired a chief petty officer.
Weird to think that until the late 1970s the average RN seaman went to sea before turning 18. Yes you can still join at 16(for now) but no more service in harms way. Until 18 you're just a junior on the waiting list. But historically this was not the case even in wartime. Just look at the ages of RN seamen killed in both world wars. There's plenty of 16 and 17 year olds on those naval memorials. The weirdest part is that 16 year olds today are taller than their equivalent 16 year olds from back then. If a 16 year old could handle a Lee-Enfield or further back a Brown Bess it seems weird how apparently today they're too young to handle the shorter rifles we got. Or scrub a deck on a destroyer.

Brilliant sketch.

somewhere nearby there were destroyers..any..all a waste..britain was destroyed by its ruling elites...
Two KGV class battleships and an Illustrious class carrier facing up to about as violent N Atlantic storm as you can get. Incredible to see that mighty carrier being thrown about like that. No flying that day! Presumably the cruisers and destroyers though better of it and stayed at home.
Kirk has immortality
HMS Dreadnought (the first all-big-gun battleship ever built), HMS Warspite (Royal Navy battleship with an impressive service record), HMS Vanguard (last battleship built for the Royal Navy)... it's sad that British chaps did not preserve one of these ships as a museum ship (like Americans did with their battleships).
My cousin died on HMS Daring H16 which was sadly hit by a torpedo from German U - boat U-23 and sunk off the east coast of Scotland. He was only aged 20.
My Father HMS Bulldog. He said they were in fear of it breaking down being a WW1 left over, but she survived.
Is be stoned In most of thjs? What is t about him boxing? The reflexes? The distance perception? The footwork? He is very unorthodox. Good to watch. He definitely forgot that Italian word before he left the shop. 😃
Too bad the full documentary isn't uploaded nor is it in Amazon anymore. I still appreciate that you are uploading these clips, this is one of the most unique WW2 documentaries in terms of the battle it covers.

I was there. Keppel Div. 1958. Went over the wall and got six cuts for it. It could have been twelve, but I came back of my own accord. I was one of the few that passed the entry exam for an Artificer Aprenticeship, and had to start again at Fisgard in 1959, but my official number being lower than anyone else's there, including the senior class, got me a lot of respect. Ended up an AA1 on Sea Vixens, Wessex HAS Mk 1s and Wasps.

Thanks for sharing this video. It’s the first time I’ve seen actual footage of HMS Aurora (C12). My grandfather served aboard her for her entire service (along with a few other lads from Hartlepool) and although he didn’t talk much about his service he always put the ‘Silver Phantom’ on a pedestal.
Bullshit again. No Instructors were ever like this wanker is trying to portray. Why. Because he was never there.
It's great to see these ships from the past, that defended us. But sad when you hear of those being lost. RIP all who died.
My great-uncle was a pompom gunner aboard HMS Nubian, he also sailed aboard HMS Kelvin, HMS Javelin and Orion. They also trained him as a Commando I think they called them Bluejacket Commandos. From there he ended up in the SBS and fought in Burma.. managed to survive the war lived many years after
It's all luck which ship you were drafted to my father had only one ship from 1940 42....HMS Exeter..😞

I wonder if they used the interior shots of HMS Howe, but didn't actually load the guns, so they used a shot of 15" twin turrets firing, obviously in wartime, as the muzzles aren't polished. The cost of firing big guns may have prevented the captain from using main armament firing for something as trivial as a film, we don't actually see a shell or cordite bags being pushed into the gun. For the general public at the time, seeing this in the cinema, such differences wouldn't have mattered. In 1951 during Korea, the cost per 16" shell for an Iowa class American battleship averaged $1,352. If we assume the U.S dollar was worth about ten English pounds at the time, that would equate to £135, when my father earned £5 a week. (page 98, The Iowa Class Battleships. Malcolm Muir. Sterling Publishers). Put at today's rates, an average £500 a week wage would give $13,500 per shell. I did think we were inside a triple turret, but it could be a KGV. It was the picture of the breeches rising that seemed to be filmed through the escape manhole in the turret, or from the rangefinder position at the rear. The rangefinders in the turret would be in a separate, lightly armoured compartment.
He is so friendly
I lived across from Joe Ryan his coach. I loved when Kirk would show me his Gowns in his wardrobe. Red, Gold, Green. Expensive full length satin robes. Velvet Robes too. I hate what Hackney Downs did to him. We'd sit down and talk boxing as my dad was heavy weight back in the day so me and Kirk we could reason. I never knew he was born 'Batheny' (Handicapped). I liked seeing him vibrant and on the ball. I recognised Joe Ryan's voice before I saw him Lol. I miss Hackney ⚡🔥⚡🔥 He's with Harry Carpenter now R.I.E.P
Absolute bullshit. Blake 10 mess, The PO was an awesome person. I will defiantly defended my instructors at Ganges like they were family.
HMS Aurora (Pei Ching) had her tablet & bell salvaged, now on display in a Chinese museum. The only relics left of the 4 fleet Arethusa Class: Arethusa (broken up, 1951), Aurora (sold to China, 1948), Galatea (sunk with great loss of life 1941) & Penelope (HMS Pepperpot, sunk with great loss of life 1944)..
I wasn’t aware of this recovery. Thanks for sharing as I’ll take a look.
2:09 G-d bless the heroes of Galatea & Penelope. My grandad's uncle was among the lost crew of Galatea, left behind a devoted wife, two babies, his mother (a world war one widow), nine siblings and countless family. Rest in Peace Bob and ship mates.
HMS Ganja was a wholly more relaxed affair.
