HL - LHC Project
Добавлен 11 окт 2016
The High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) is a major upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator.
It is an international project led by CERN that aims to improve up the performance of the LHC. By increasing the number of collisions, and thus the data that the experiments gather, the HL-LHC will allow physicists to study of known mechanisms in greater detail and observe rare new phenomena that might reveal themselves.
The HL-LHC project not only represents a new horizon for science, but also for technology. It relies on a several key innovative technologies that represent exceptional technological challenges, such as more powerful focusing magnets, unprecedented beam optics, “crab” cavities for tilting the beams, etc.
The HL-LHC is expected to be operational after 2028.

Installation of the D1 magnet into the IT String at CERN
Просмотров 52421 день назад
The D1 cryoassembly, containing the separation dipole developed for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) by the Japanese institute KEK, was successfully installed in the IT String on 4 November 2024. The cryoassembly was carefully transported to its final position using specialised equipment, including a load truck, a ROCLA vehicle, an overhead crane, and a transfer table. The tra...
First magnet installation (Q2a) into the IT String at CERN
Просмотров 21521 день назад
The Q2a cryoassembly, containing the state-of-the-art quadrupole magnet MQXFB (fabricated at CERN) and the corrector magnet MCBXFB (produced by CIEMAT in Spain and CERN) has been successfully installed in the HL-LHC IT String. This milestone marks the first installation of magnets within the facility, representing a significant achievement for the project. It is a major accomplishment for the m...
Installation of the Cold Powering System into the HL-LHC IT String
Просмотров 44228 дней назад
The installation of the Cold Powering System into the HL-LHC IT String marked a significant milestone for the Project and was the collective effort of the Cold Powering System, IT String and CERN Transport teams. The SC-link was wound onto a large spool, transported - along with the DFHX cryostat - to the IT String area, and then lifted onto the upper platform. The SC-link was then unspooled an...
What is HiLumi to you?

During the 14th HL-LHC Collaboration Meeting in Genoa, Italy, we asked participants how they would describe the High-Luminosity LHC Project in only a few words, and to expand on why they thought this based on their own roles within the project. A big thank you to our contributors, listed below in order of appearance. Oliver Bruning, CERN - HL-LHC Project Leader Fernando Toral, CIEMAT (Spain) - ...
Delivery of large helium tanks to CERN
Просмотров 1104 месяца назад
Delivery and assembly of hot helium tanks (250m3 - 65,000 kg - 30 m long) as part of the HL-LHC project. Two large helium tanks have just been delivered to the new high-luminosity LHC site at point 1. They will store the helium needed for the two refrigerators which will cool the new HL-LHC focusing magnets on both sides. Livraison et montage des reservoirs d'helium chaud (250m3 - 65'000 kg - 3...

From @fermilab to #CERN The #HiLumiLHC reaches a milestone with the arrival at CERN of the first cryo-assembly manufactured by the US collaboration. It arrived at CERN following an extensive journey by boat and truck from Fermilab, United States. Watch a timelapse of the unboxing of the first of ten cryo-assemblies from the US to be installed in the HL-LHC interaction regions. This cryo-assembl...
MgB2 superconducting cable for transmission and distribution of electrical power
Просмотров 412Год назад
Transmission and distribution of electrical power either on a large or on a local scale may be envisaged with MgB2 superconducting cables, particularly if the electrical current intensity is very high and particularly where DC can be used. Indeed, the virtually lossless transmission of elevated currents (e.g. 100,000A) brings a paradigm shift in the dimensioning of power cables, potentially off...

Merci beaucoup de mettre en valeur notre travail commun 🙏
Phew, what a work it was........we just have a bajillion or so left to install!
Crazy 😇
I worked on this magnet! It's good to see it arrived in one piece.
This video feels like it was abruptly cut off at the end, is there a complete video for more information?
LFG!!!!
It is wonderful ! Many thanks for the cooperation with CERN and KEK team to reach this stage.
Nice work
Very interesting. I don't suppose there is an index that provides descriptions of what is shown in each image? Thanks for the peek behind the curtain.
Nice, so when can we get black holes.
Why does that guy drag his foot all over it
