Very glad youtube recommended me this video, very informative!
sooo mad i couldn't make the stream itself but this was an excellent, dense intro to game trailer production. thanks owen!!!
Great discussion. Very useful.
Mahalo!
I would like to notice one nice design touch, that wasn't covered here but it was in the level. At 5:33 we can see boxes on the floor. They aren't obviously placed together so the player won't notice that but the human perception will work here and we will (probably) look in the direction that they are pointing. However they are pointing to the wall and we have a new room in front of us so we don't think too much about it. And there comes magic. They were pointing the wall when the player was looking at the new location but when he came back, their direction changed so they were pointing pipes (7:21). That is something that is also used in the art (e.g. lines between ceiling and walls are pointing to Jesus in the Last Supper). Also those boxes cover pipes on the first bridge entry so they have 2 functionalities. Great video by the way, I love it! <3
content of the video might be good but the audio is horrible, I can't hear anything
Nicely done Peter!
If I'm forced to get to the locked critical path before I can get the key to it, that means exploration will never be rewarded with the key. So, I should just run down the critical path until it opens up the area I need to go to, it's a waste to explore everything else.
3 years too late to this, but I found it on time.
TOP!
I only wants to know in which engine it made and how
It was made in Dreams for PS4 /PS5 :)
Thank you for this!
excellent talk!
Lots of Great information! Wish I could have been there for the live experience!
awesome guy
cool
I love that Rhianne has MÖRK BORG RPG in the background!
Hi, I did architecture as my first degree here in Nigeria, and im sort of confused about going for a master's in VR. MY question is, is there any other career option for an architect in VR? I am also confused as to what software to choose, Unreal Engine or Unity or both. What schools can you also recommend (preferably with scholarship)
This was very enlightening. Thank you very much :D
Im showing very early stage interest into exploring a career in game design, and found this really inspiring! thank you
Thank you so much for having me.
Mahalo!
At 23:22 you mentioned that age is absolutely not a factor in getting into this industry. That statement was VERY promising for me to hear. At the age of 38, and with no games industry experience as of yet, I am just now venturing down the path of learning narrative design; with my very stubborn sights set on one company in particular. I have been a copywriter/ghostwriter for most of my life, and very much consider myself a gamer, but I was a bit afraid my age would put me at a massive disadvantage for this career path. It was very good to hear it won't be as big of a factor as I originally thought. Thanks for the very informative video! It helped quite a bit!
Hi will you be asking folk to test out the 'learning resourses' before developing the full 'Level 5 digital Artist Apprenticeship'? what will the age limit be to apply?
Adding in some timestamps for those interest in particular aspects of the show! Presentation: 00:00 - Introduction by Declan 06:50 - Apprenticeships 101 08:59 - Benefits of Apprenticeships 10:30 - Level 4 Digital Community Manager Apprenticeship 12:47 - Level 7 Game Programmer Apprenticeship 14:32 - Who can be an apprentice? 16:18 - Apprenticeship Timeline 18:55 - Apprenticeship Levy - Financing Apprenticeships and why they are essentially free training Panel Discussion with Audience Questions 21:30 - 55:43 Presentation: 55:43 - Next Steps and Actions
A proper crash course on level design !
Truly one of the best talks I've seen... on anything. Why doesn't EVERYONE replace their powerpoint decks with game levels?
Wow... fantastic talk
Thanks for an amazing talk guys. It really helped me understand ins and outs of the Narrative Design role.
Loved this panel! Thanks everyone for sharing and thank you IGC for posting this!
Thanks for the insight =]
Keypoints that stood out to me: Your portfolio must include code, sure - but your thought proccess is just as important: including diagrams, text, and other forms of expressing your logic flow before typing in things is pretty helpful Personality is a thing - nobody wants to hire an AI that does code, lol -> make sure to include stuff that you do outside programming, as that makes you more approachable Reading code is really important Graphics programming is weird to enter, but a very desired role to fill
It's really hard to hear you all with the horrible background noise I hope you can fix this for future videos <3 never mind :D
ok sorry it stops 2 mins in should've waited before dropping a comment silly me :D
I was going to do the same, and then I saw your comment, lol
Thanks for this information!
Nice content, keep it up! This deserves way more views, I’d recommend using Promosm to grow your channel and get more social proof.
Great event guys. Great to see and hear from more diverse voices :D
Thank you so much for the support!
Legend! Awesome session! Thank you. Could have listened for hours and hours.
good
Awesome
Some absolutely gold tips there.
Came here from infallible code. Edit: spelling
This video is gold! Thanks for sharing it and Thanks for the Peter Field master class.
This is hands down the best talk on level design I have ever seen, clear examples, well explain with very practical and demonstrative examples. I would love to see some more follow up examples, covering some additional topics like designing terrain and a more detailed look at topics like sightline blocking and choosing affordance signifiers
Great and informative video - seeing it in such a visual format really drives home the points. I found setting up the locked gate puzzle particularly helpful. Would love to see something like this on combat design!
Great video. Thank you Peter Field.
Great video, finally got around to watching it 😀
A lot of good advice, tips, articles, videos, talks and even books about level design in just one 37 minutes talk! That's an awesome talk! Thank you Peter for creating "the giraffes moment" and for sharing this talk!
Cheers for this talk Anthony. I'll be contacting you on Linked in😉
Thx Peter for a really interesting talk❤️
