Hi guys!
My names Rich, I've enjoyed fishing the North Yorkshire coast now for over 35 years. Based in Whitby, I've fished from the boats from being just 7 years old!
I've ran my own Charter boats from 23 years old and I also have experience in crewing on the local potting boats too.
I love the varied fishing that our coastline offers us in terms of shore fishing too. Having fished the local shore angling club for a number of years I've plenty of experience of our local marks, rigs, bait preparation and care.
I'm still learning and as anglers I don't think we ever stop developing our skills, I've put this page together as a hobby to help people starting out fishing & to also record the time spent with my family and friends enjoying our time out fishing together.
If anyone has any questions or would like any specific info, drop me a message and I'll do my best to help you out!
Tight lines and happy fishing!

Double Uni Knot

Hi Guys, I use this knot fairly regularly, mostly for joining 2 lines together either as a repair to main lines in braid or in paternoster style end rigs. I stated in the video 4-6 times through the loop, you need less turns for mono and more turns for braid to prevent slippage, I hope you find it useful, drop me a like & subscribe if you do. Alberto Knot Short

Guys, everyone has their favourite knot for connecting their leaders to the braided main lines. My pal Mark Augarde showed me this when I fished with him many years ago in Falmouth for sharks. I use it now for when I go on my annual Conger trips and also for my Flouro leaders on my Bass spinning gear. It has never let me down, with Congers to 50lb and many Bass on plugs. Please be careful with ...
End Loop Knot Short Video

A very simple knot to tie with many uses! Remember to add extra tucks for braid, and that you've allowed enough line in your loop to pass over any objects on your trace, ie, swivels or weights. Tight lines guys! happy fishing!

The 'Whitby' Shad Rig On Mistress Sea Angling Charters
Просмотров 18810 лет назад
Mistress skipper Rich Cope shows how to tie a very simple rig for fishing shads and soft baits. The simplicity of the rig means it rarely tangles and is quick to replace- meaning for effective fishing time.
One day i have mine 😅😅😅😅😅❤
It's getting a place on your boat that's turning out to be very difficult.
If you cant get hold of me on the phone, drop me a message mate
Hi do they have to be female crabs and are the edible crabs your using ????
They are female edible crabs, sometimes we get males mixed in too and their wings fish just as well. There's more oil in the eggs which attracts the fish.
Great video! Cheers from here in the USA
Great Video, Spot On!!! 👍
It's unlikely you will see a difference from male to female as bait at this stage in their reproducive cycle . Female crabs have to have shed ( be soft) to be mated and then carry fertilized eggs under the tail ( a berried femail) when a femail is ready to shed and mate she gives of a pheromone which attracts males but also fish Male Green (shore crabs) can be found in the spring carring a female under them waiting for her to shed these are the peller crabs you buy for bait , the males shed earlier in the year so they are ready to mate .
Some cracking fish coming to the boat
My Dad had a Comercial boat out of Whitby
Some good fish for the lads but I wouldn't fish on this boat unless I could set up on the starboard side as he only sets up the drift one way, anglers port side are dragging their lines under the keel on every drift, give everyone a chance and alternate the drift.
its just the way the videos edited, I always give equal drifts either side.
You’re providing a great professional service, thank you !
very good young man!
Get knotted ❤😂😒🙄
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great vid thanks,,,very interesting ,,😊
Rich, what do you mean by ‘uptide’ fishing? 👍. Is the boat anchored or drifting? Are you about 3 miles onshore?
we're anchored inshore mate, usually from 30ft-90ft, its a great way of fishing, really relaxed!
“Pretty dead is like being fairly pregnant LOL
😂
Hi mate do you take the wing out of the cling film?
Yes mate I always take it off, the bait always lasts the 15-20 mins its out for
Great to see such fine cod....what Whitby is famous for. ...I need to think seriously about a trip back to a place of my childhood....anyone got a spare sea rod?
Wow some amazing fish here well done guys.
Hi Rich, I have watched your shows for the first time today. Wonderful! I live in York and would love a fishing trip with you to the wreck 28 miles offshore. However I have never been on Facebook, so how can I find out your charges, availability, your provision of tackle & bait etc. I am by life a fly tier/ fly fisherman for trout, but love my sea fishing trips, first July 19th 1969 off Newhaven, unforgettable. More recently off Penzance twice. Nick from York
Hi Nick, thanks for your kind comments, I only take a max of 8 people on my trips, it gives everyone a better experience with having more space and also means I can get around everyone needing assistance. Uptiding is £60 Inshore wreck and ground is £70 Offshore wreck and ground is £80 12hr Offshore is £100 Prices are based on anglers having their own tackle. My number is 07977 436903 best regards Rich
What a feast for the eyes this video. You are lucky when you go to the wracks to have a skipper like this one.👍 He puts the boat right on the money. Topskipper. Greetz from Stipo from Holland
Thanks for showing us the rigs will help me along
any time mate, if there are any other rigs or knots you need advice for, im happy to help!
Excellent result Rich..oh how I miss them days. I'll be back home this year, 2024..I look forward to seeing you again.
Very good day out well done skipper. 🇫🇷🇫🇷👍
Cracking video Rich top skipper and always tries his best
How does that stay on the hook, it must turn almost like jelly once it's defrosted?
Its lashed on to the hook with elasticated cotton, I baited up with it in my Uptiding for cod video. It always lasts 15-20 mins, which is all I leave each cast out for before refreshing my bait. I'll be covering it further later in the season when we turn back to Uptiding and winter shore fishing for Cod. Others salt it to make it like putty, or wrap it in finger bandages. Its all down to personal choice.
I like to wrap half a opened up squid on one side and maybe some blacks well wrapped with bait elastic on the other, this increases scent trail and slows washout.
Great fishing Rich, thanks for sharing and good to see a few decent codling coming aboard - tight lines mate. PS liked your CART tutorial on preparation very useful I'll have a go at them.
Thank you for your kind comments, if you need any specific info, drop me a line mate, cheers Rich
@@Fish.Bros. cheers mate
Careful when you pull the braid tight. I’ve forgotten how many times I’ve given myself a braid cut, putting a new leader on when sea fishing.
Definitely! that's a really valid point I didn't cover, thank you!
I am an angler for more than 45 yrs and this latest RUclips cart craze is just depleting the crab stocks to the point where they will be an endangered species pushing up the cost of eating crab for the general public. In my opinion 🤔
You're entitled to your opinion, but we've been using cart in our region for over 30 years, so its hardly a latest craze. The crabs used would of been landed for food or whelk bait. The crab that are landed aren't specifically for bait, you cant blame the crab fishermen for wanting make a livlihood, your issues should be raised to the government and the people that make the rules, if you feel so triggered by it.
@@Fish.Bros. yes the Yorkshire lads started using in the 80s it was banned up here in comps . But it is the latest craze on RUclips
I remember us not being able to use it in the amble open. That ruling has been lifted now. We still fish it every year. I actually put this viceo together before lock down. The price of wings is crazy now, it might help a few folk save a few quid making their own.
What do you think eats crab eggs? Cod. With the general destruction of predatory fish stocks, crabs and lobsters are a very healthy population. Squid and other molluscs even more common these days, so use those as great baits if you're concerned about crabs
There is no more increase in crab being caught, the people producing cart buy the crab from the suppliers or boats who would be selling to stores or restaurants.
Nice one richie
I'd rather eat the crabs then use them for bait, this must cost a fortune..
You can buy crab wings already prepared, which tbh is loads easier if you arent using many. A box of crabs will set you back £40-£80 and you can usually expect around 100 wings per box.
how much do the crabs cost or do you catch them yourself
Depending on market prices £40-£80 a box, and you should get around 100 baits per box
What time of year are the female crabs in season meaning with coral ? Cheers
You do get some early starters but autumn time is best September/October/November If you're in touch with a Crab Fisherman, they will usually keep you updated on availability & condition of crabs.
well done Rich
Crackig video Rich mate
Cheers mate, appreciate the feedback!
Good video, would be good to see how you hook them up!
Hi Joe, I covered that in my last video on Late Season Uptiding For Cod mate, as we get back towards autumn and winter again I'll be doing videos for shore cod rigs and baiting up too. thanks for your feedback its much appreciated and gives me an idea of where I can steer my videos to help everyone out. tight lines Rich
