Hi! I'm James!
I’m a Jesus follower, happily married since 2009, and an enthusiastic father of 3.
I like the outdoors (backpacking, rock climbing, paddling, mountain biking), philosophy, woodworking, automotive, fixing broken stuff, and anything to do with family.
I am an ASE master mechanic w/ ~50 engineering college credits to my name &17 years of experience in automotive, specifically working at VW in Michigan, Wolfsburg, and Chattanooga in Quality Assurance & Research and Development.
I retired* in May 2023 with $400,000 saved, no debt or mortgage, & a minimum $1,800 in monthly expenses after hearing clearly from God that it was time to take the step of faith I had been planning for (google "financial movement FIRE") long before I hit my FIRE number. He has yet to reveal what I will do next so for the time being, I am enjoying being a full time dad and husband among other side projects.
I hope you find some inspiration, encouragement, or at the very least some instruction!!

Excellent shop tip. Thank you.
Old video by now. Thanks for this. I haven't yet attempted on my old Highlander, but my biggest concern is getting the clips off of the coils. I did a 3.5 on a 2015 Lexus and the clips were a huge challenge - even using special tools to raise the release tabs. On that engine, I finally succumbed to pulling the intake plenum, which I was trying to avoid.
I made a hot wire cutter for my nylon webbing. Uses an 18650 battery and vape wire. Flip the switch and watch it glow.
The valley is 3400 ft elev. The peak is 5500. Rattlesnakes go up to about 6500. I aways hike 7000, and above in Yosemite. Not terrified of them but you could have a nasty fall when you jump three feet in the air.
Good approach
I’ll take a hard pass on this one. Brings back haunting memories. Lol. Of course I watch your videos. Have fun!
❤️
Absolutely love your videos and the wide range of things you cover. Very great info here
Thanks so much!!!!
You’ll never be able to do it with that attitude
Thanks Robert!
Wow thanks a bunch now where can I find these tools
Snap On. They are pricey though!
Please sir your last few shorts just shoulda been DMs to me cuz like stop talking about me. Yes it is the best stove. That’s why I recommended it to you.
Hmm. Ok
You have to lug the fuel with you
True. It isn’t much though.
Watch one peal off and you will think twice.😮
Fair
She looks miserable 😂😂
Does she? She didn’t wanna look at me with the headlamp because it blinds the camera, but she’s smiling and laughing, what are you talking about?
Happy anniversary!!! Have a great trip!
Thanks Jeff! Come visit soon!
She looks like she needs a little something extra of you catch drift

Thank you! I followed your instructions to the letter. Happiness is hearing the mower purr after completing the carb replacement!
Great to hear!
Why wouldn’t you just go cordless with everything ?
There are situations in particular jobs where you need to use a tool continuously for most of the day and you don’t wanna wait on anything to recharge.

Why are you not splicing/burying the ends like your supposed to with dyneema? Edit: If your looking for the splicing tools. Ronstan F15 Splicing Needle or a piece of Bent 0.039 ~ 0.047 music / piano wire that can be found at any hobby or music store for splicing 1.7mm ~ 4mm dyneema
“Supposed to”? You’re right that splicing and burying is the common approach but it isn’t always practical if you’re in the field or need to tie up something quickly.
@@35andRetiredBut your not in the field here. A wire takes up zero space and no other tools or gas. I splice Zing-it and Lash-it in the field almost daily with a paper clip. Its really doesn’t take that much time or effort to splice/burying the tip to make a clean end literally takes 5~10 seconds and no way for it to fray. But thats just my take. You do you.
Do you know if the 2001 is the same? V6 3.0l Solara. Thanks!
It should be! I can’t say 100% though.

Did you have to remove the cotter pin on the steering shaft behind the battery? Or was there enough play to get it down far enough?
I removed it
That does look rather lush 😋
😀
😋
Indeed!
Congratulations to you both. Enjoy your time together.
Thank you!!

they are definitely TOP of the line thats just their lower end model but its still a great one. they are located in my area BOTE is made out of Destin Fl
Thanks for the input!
Thank you for the great review!
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful for you!
Same for 1999??
Should work but have not done it myself so hard to say 100%
Just spent 3 hours on my 2004 Solara and managed to change all of them but #5. This is definitely not a piece of cake if you dont have skinny arms. Folks, this is one of the few instances where SIZE MATTERS. I went through all of the 5 stages of grief, and even questioning if God exists at times. I still think it is worth to try, but only if your car is fully paid.
haha. What a great comment! Hope you got it finished buddy!
You Sir are a LEGEND!!!
Yes, he is. One with skinny arms nonetheless.
Thanks!
hahaha. Fair.
Ok I'm about to attempt this. I've got long skinny arms
I hope it goes well!
So far so good, called it quits after 4. I need a different combination of extensions to get the last two plugs. This is definitely doable.
It is finished
@@bobrobert1123 NICE!!
Great timing on the video. Our van has a leak. Passenger side nice and cool while driver's side is only medium cool.
Feel free to call or text me if you have any specific questions. Often times a low refrigerant charge (due to a leak) shows up on one side of the car before the other.
@@35andRetired thanks.
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Well said.
Hadn't heard from you in awhile but I somehow thought I'd see a comment from you about this one... :)
Please keep making videos. I’m in my 20s & from hammocking, camping, to financial, to family, to mechanical / tool related, I can really relate to your ideas. You present a lot of valuable information packed into a short time frame. I really appreciate it & I think many others will too once the algorithm picks certain videos up!
Thanks for this comment! Such comments are really huge encouragements!
