What a great musician! I had the great honor to build the guitar that Larry is playing here. Larry became a very good friend over the years and it was always amazing to hear him play. It‘s been a few years now but I still miss him like crazy.

Fantastic! I was introduced to Larry's music (The Jam w/Albert) by a friend while driving in his '59 healy back in early 70's. I later saw Larry perform at Franklin & Marshall College (Lancaster,PA) and later at The Main Point (Bryn Mawr, PA). I have 12 of Larry's vinyl albums! Where can I find this entire performance of Larry on 2/18/17? Many, many, thanks!

Spaces blew my mind. I was 21 in 71 playing rock and roll and a little jazz. A drummer friend and prolific album buyer turned me on to it. My reaction was WTFn H are they playing and how is it possible. I had the vinyl, a cassette, and CD and now of course just digital in iTunes. RIP Larry and thanks for the ride. Hope we can jam in the "great unknown".

this fills me with sadness...I was fortunate to take a lesson from Larry back in 2010, I believe, and then to get to know him subsequently and - the best musical night of my life! - to open for him at Hugh's Room in Toronto in 2012. Larry was even gracious enough to invite me on stage to play a tune with him...what an incredible honor. What many people may not know is that Larry was not just a genius player but also a very modest and self-effacing guy and a man who loved life: loved a good meal and a good joke and had a mountain of fantastic stories from his life in jazz. RIP Larry Coryell. One of the true greats!

Dear Lord, I just found out that the one and only just died, after this great performance. That is the wonder of sheet music and after that came sound recording, which allows the best part of this man to live on. Thank God we still have some geniuses in the pipeline, John McLaughlin, Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Robert Fripp, Alex Lifeson, and of course Bill Nelson. I left out Carlos Santana, Alan Holdsworth, Eric Clapton. Larry, I just got busy and didn't listen to you for almost 40 years, and I used to go on jaunts into the stratosphere with you almost ever day.. I was thinking about one of your old riffs from "Barefoot Boy" this morning, went here to listen again, and found out you were gone. That is how life occurs, and now you are gone. I pray that you found out who God is, and will be playing the best guitar you ever saw when finally we meet.

I saw Larry play in Cork last November (11th House). Twas max volume fusion (with Joey de Francesco & Julian Coryell though Alphonse Mouzon was too ill to attend) and I enjoyed it, but especially enjoyed seeing Larry to do his acoustic solo "Bolero" in concert (mid-set). I think I actually like his acoustic playing best (first time hearing him was the Super Guitar Trio dvd, and I think I liked his fun-loving playing best). I had brought a copy of a 'dragon gate' cd sleeve with me and asked before the gig 'any chance of signings after?' and I was told 'yeah, sure'. But Larry was still playing when I had to leave for a last bus, so I had to go 'excuse me, excuse me' out of my theatre row and, as I was doing so, I looked up at the stage and Larry (who was comping between solos, waiting for his next spot) was looking at me the whole time and possibly slightly bemused at the awkwardness of my situation. Ah well. I would have liked to got to talk to him after the show (missed a show he did in Dublin before...and never did see him play before last November), but the abiding memory is of an enjoyable gig that kinda confirmed to me that a) Coryell could play anything, and b) he's a genial soul who just loves to play. That gave the concert an almost party-like atmosphere: nothing like other "fusion" gigs I was at years ago (like Al DiMeola or John McLaughlin's Fourth Dimension). I have a handful of Larry's records...and there's bits of brilliance scattered over them, and as I'm sure there'd be in all the rest of them (100 plus, I think!), amidst not so memorable stuff...but, in concert, as an improviser, it seems he was always in his element. 'Spaces Revisited' and 'Tricycles' were two I meant to get about ten years back, but never did. Maybe now's the time. Cheers for (or to?) the erratic genius that was Larry Coryell (RIP). It wouldn't surprise me if he's still improvising endlessly...somewhere....and, more importantly, truly enjoying himself while doing so too!

I've just read that Mouzon has also passed away (RIP). Coryell read out a text message from him on stage, saying he was in hospital and wished he could attend and wanted to tour as "the 11th House" again. I was hoping to see Mouzon in concert - one of those great fusion drummers of the 70s who, like Cobham (who I did see once), went in a funk direction as a solo recording artist. Mouzon's "I'm glad that you're here" is the one disco song I like!

I’m in shock...........over this. I remember picking Larry up at the airport for a gig I was to dropped him off at the Hotel. I did this for the owner of the club. When I got out to get his guitars……he said forget it just bring to the club tomorrow…. So I went home with 5 of Larry’s guitars…..that night…….it was very cold that night Didn’t want to leave in the car…..took them in and check them out, saw him the next day at the club……..funny…..event. Im very sad over this...

I am so, so glad that this last performance, in every sense of the word, his ULTIMATE performance, was documented. This is so good, so accomplished, it's STUPID. Jimi Hendrix meets John McLaughlin... ...except that he preceded them both by a year or two. He put on this performance, this amazing execution of his art, at the Iridium, the House that Les Paul Built (how effing beautiful is THAT?) and then passed away, peacefully in his sleep, a few hours later: An inspiration to guitar players everywhere... ...and there are a plethora of worse ways to go. RIP.
