A really cool thing about the hole the tripod was buried in is the hole rotates before it opens. This is very similar to what happens in the original book. The capsule the Martians were in had a lid that screwed off. I thought it was a cool touch.

I rate terminator 1 above 2. Emotional connect between the characters was much stronger in 1. Technically though, terminator 2 was far, far better

It's bizarre because I literally read somewhere that Arnold refused ever playing villains again after Terminator 1 and the only way they convinced him to play the robot again in Terminator 2 was by promising him he would be the good guy. How is that compatible with "I don't like it because I'm not allowed to kill people"? You probably can refute my first statement by citing films where Arnold played villains after the 80's; I'm not that familiar with his filmography.
