I received this Droll Yankees Yankee Flipper Squirrel-Proof Bird Feeder as a gift and it was useless until I got creative. A great horned owl showed up last night at 7:30 pm causing all the birds to squawk at his presence. At 1:50 you can see a Blue Jay getting in his face to no avail. He flies away at the end of the clip but perched in another tree.

This squirrel knows to look for me to throw a peanut or two in his direction. I decided to try squirrel fishing. I don't know if this hawk was after a bird or the squirrel, but the squirrel got out of the hawk's way very fast. The original clip of the hawk in flight lasted 2.5 seconds - I couldn't tell what was happening. I slowed it down to 20 seconds.

When the post nut clarity sets in and it's time to bounce.
I had a 5' length of 3" aluminum stove pipe that was eventually defeated. Until I could figure out my next move, I put Dawn dish washing liquid on the outside diameter of the pipe and they won't even attempt to crawl up. They just look up at the feeder in frustration...so far.

How u modified? add an extra piece of wire and some kind of netting? The birds drop a lot of seeds on the ground and all the rodents eat of the ground, then dig holes in my house, etc. Just birds I wold like - not all the freakin squirrels who jsut eat the lot in 5 mins :)
I made a seed catcher out of landscaping cloth that prevents weeds. I cut a circle then added a 2 inch piece around the edge to form an object that looks like a 9" cake pan. It had to be light enough that the weight doesn't trigger the spinner. It also allowed the rain to pass thru. Eventually the squirrel learned to grab on the bottom and ripped a hole in it. I made another one out of plastic mesh that racoons destroyed. It's a constant battle. I put the seed into the seed catcher and not the feeder. The small birds climb in and eat it. When there are too many birds, it starts to spin but stops as soon as it lightens up. This was a very disappointing "squirrel proof" bird feeder. The squirrels don't mind going for a spin if the seeds fall onto the ground. I've also started using sunflower kernels and there's no mess on the ground. They're expensive so I just put fewer out each day. I store them in empty 1 gallon milk jugs and just pour them in. I've also hung a platform feeder on a regular bird feeder pole with a baffle. The squirrels can't get the seeds and the seeds stay in the feeder. I saw this feeder on another video by "Lesleythe BirdNerd". It's "Nature's Way Bird Products CWF3 Cedar Platform Tray Bird Feeder ". I've been very satisfied with it. Thanks for watching my video.
@@patanewman clever. i bought the plate for a different one and attached it with ties. Chipmunks can get in but they get tired of being thrown. comical but it might injure them so not feeling too good about that :)
Squirrel to Squirrel. I joined a gym on the way to dinner. What a workout and boy was I hungry.
I love them but they can be rodents at times when they eat your plants even though you put out a crap ton of prevention methods eventually it comes down to shooting them with a pellet gun so I don't lose 2800$ come harvest.
If I had anything valuable they could damage, I'd do the same. One did chew a hole in my window screen. I have baffles up now. Thanks for commenting
Amazing Lil buggers! They'll figure it out eventually! I got a supposed "squirrel proof" bird feeder. Yeah, right! Not only did they scare the birds off, but flung seed all over the ground...until I learned about cayenne pepper! Mwaahaaahaa! I only wish I'd recorded his launch of about 8 feet when he tasted that pepper. BTW, The birds love it, especially the seeds!

Haven't had squirrels here in a while. I live in the country with Fox squirrels. I have a wobbling baffle. If they come around and get past my baffles they will be met with my pellet gun. It's my bird seed and my money. I decide who gets dibs. And that is not the tree mice.
I have a wobbling baffle in place now. They have never been able to overcome it. I have to keep moving the feeder as the trees grow otherwise they launch from the branches. Thanks for watching.

I nailed one years ago with my pellet gun. Bird feeders are about 20 feet from the house. Dropped that sucker instantly. My brother was pissed. Well hey. That's MY bird seed and feeder. I determine who gets to eat off of it. And tree mouse isn't on the list. So bye-bye squirrely
Just put a tube on like they do on a fence. It has to be slippery, besides rotating. The tube has to go all the way from the bottom to the top of the pole.
