I Make A Walnut Handle to Fix This Kettle. Should I Have Just Thrown This Out?
The handle for this kettle broke 10 years ago. In this video I do some woodworking to custom make a new handle to repair my old kettle. I really like it, and I had some scrap walnut laying around my shop. We also answer the question of is this type of project is actually worth it or not. You might be surprised by my answer.

Today I tackle the rotting crumbling garage wall. Water leaking in from the window and dirt sitting against the wall completely rotted out this section of the garage wall making it a nightmare. The window framing, studs, bottom plate and sheathing were all completely rotted away. We couldn’t install the new siding over this, so we have to repair it. In the video we identify what caused the prob...

I am renovating my second home after completing the first. This channel will follow my renovations, and my videos will show you how to complete the DIY renos that I am doing. I have a few projects my videos are currently following and many more to be completed!
Hope to see more! I used to be good with wood and crafts in high school in shop class but adulting hit me! Im a new homeowner but I want to fix things on my own to my house that needs some work. Loved the garage episode!! That is my first project this summer.
Having a house is a prefect back to woodworking excuse. Thanks for watching!
I felt your pain when you broke the paver & ran short. Great job working through the problem.
Hey Matt, good job with the siding. I recommend wearing a respirator when cutting the Hardie Board with an angle grinder…that silica dust will mess you up.
Yah. I was not great with wearing a mask when I got in a rush
RIP Bonavita. What a majestic end for a humble kettle
If only it would have lasted long enough to actually pour at least one tea or coffee
great video Matt!
Glad you enjoyed it!
So it being an exterior wall would one assume that means it’s a load bearing wall?? Honest question
Hey, I cover it in the video at 1:10. Not all exterior walls are load bearing, it would depend on how the roof is framed. Because these are trusses, only the front and back walls where the trusses touch are load bearing.
Love this video... I have the exact same problem and now I feel Incan DIY it! Thank you!!
I’m glad you found it helpful! It’s intimidating but not overly difficult.
I’m thinking to install pavers in diamond pattern with turf lines running in between. Do you think it’s ok to lay them on these panel base? Since turf lines will separate them how do you think we can secure the each diamond pavers without using mortar ?
When you say turf, do you mean fake grass (eg astroturf) or real? If you mean real turf, I don’t think it would work well. It has drainage holes, but not enough for something permeable like grass/real turf. Based on the installs I’ve seen with real grass, they don’t secure them. The dirt and turf form the grout between tiles.
@@MWHomeBuilds hello thank you for getting back to me. I’m thinking about fake grass turf. But I’m wondering how to secure diamond pavers on the panel? do I need like an edge restraint around each pavers?
@@Nnnqqq689 With fake turf, the way i've seen it done is edge restraint on just the outside edges, then filling in between the pavers with crushed stone which locks them together, then sand over that, to set the level required for the turf, then staking the turf into the sand/rock or gluing it to the mortar. Chris Loves Julia did what I think you want to do, and they have a blog about how the professional crew did it. Not hard to emulate I'd think. chrislovesjulia.com/all-about-our-diamond-pavers-and-artificial-grass/ They dont show how they set the stone, but If it were me, I'd put in a stringline to keep each row in line, lay everything, add the stone between (looks like 10mm crush) EVERYWHERE on the patio, compact manually using a mallet and board on edge. keeping it well below the finished height you need. At this point It'd be all locked together. Go back add sand and compact it down keeping it above finished level. then go back after with a T shaped block where the bottom of the T fits between the pavers and it as long as the required final depth. scrape the sand and then follow what they did. Sorry I didnt respond earlier, I didnt get a notification of this comment for some reason.
Thx for sharing. Can I ask why you didn’t use spacer for the pavers
Thanks for watching! The pavers themselves have integral spaces cast into them that space them off adjacent pavers, so they weren’t needed.
The Term, House Needs to Breathe, refers to attic, crawl spaces, and purposeful hvac ports
Absolutely it can, but if you take a look at any of the discussions on Green Building Advisor or other similar forums talking about self adhering membrane, continuous foam insulation and the like, many people come out of the woodwork arguing that air sealing external walls causes moisture issues and rot as well.
You can save the door glass. Literally get a new door and cut an opening for the door glass you want to keep and reinstall.
Absolutely! I have a video coming up on it. It was too nice a stained glass window to get rid of
Good Work Man!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.

Thanks for watching everyone! I hope you enjoyed this series! I'll be back next week with the start of the siding reno on Mom and Dads house! If you haven't checked out the other videos in this patio series, checkout the playlist! ruclips.net/video/bAcn-Q0JFGM/видео.html
Shouldn't you put thoed directly on the sand? Howvare they going to stay and settle.
The paver bases are designed to be a replacement for a sand bed. Ideally you wouldn’t want a paver patio to settle at all. The locking of a paver patio is the job of the jointing sand that’s applied last.
Cool
Thanks!
😂 the poly glue bottle 💀
😂 All to not have to go to the store..
I hope you're showing that siding being installed! 😅 It's what I need to do next~
I am! Once this patio series is done, the rest of the exterior is next. If you subscribe, hopefully it’ll alert you!
