I've been writing original music since the age of sixteen. I studied piano beginning at the age of seven and began playing trombone in fourth grade, as my mom's horn was available in the basement. I later was drafted into choir and managed to audition into All-State Chorus for my home state. I studied Music Education in college and was a trombone and voice major, and essentially a piano and composition minor. I chose not to pursue teaching. I continue to write when time allows and have a home recording studio for when the spirit moves me! I hope you enjoy my work.
The Musical Box - The Fountain of Salmacis (Clip) - 01/17/2016 - Wilmington Grand Opera House
The story...
In Greek mythology, Salmacis (Ancient Greek: Σαλμακίς) was an atypical naiad who rejected the ways of the virginal Greek goddess Artemis in favour of vanity and idleness. Her attempted rape of Hermaphroditus places her as the only nymph rapist in the Greek mythological canon (though see also Dercetis).
"There dwelt a Nymph, not up for hunting or archery:
unfit for footraces. She the only Naiad not in Diana’s band.
Often her sisters would say: “Pick up a javelin, or
bristling quiver, and interrupt your leisure for the chase!”
But she would not pick up a javelin or arrows,
nor trade leisure for the chase.
Instead she would bathe her beautiful limbs and tend to her hair,
with her...

I bought a second hand SQ80 yesterday. It initially worked fine, just with a dim screen. However, after a couple of hours it switched itself off and wouldn't power on anymore. Is that likely to be the CMOS battery or something else? They're pretty hard to find nowadays so I hope it can be fixed
Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out! from an old hippy... 1960s.....Question Authority !!! US Army veteran from this era...
Alright! Rockin'. Danceable too! Cool video; did you produce that too?
The video was found on Vimeo and adapted. It seemed to fit the tune.
@@musiqman7 It works really well.
@@Tengobaila3 Thank you!
Keith! You're so talented. You're a one man band.
Thank you, Diana!
Love it. I was in this band. It was a brass heavy year. Miss those days
My peers told me I was the loudest trombone player they'd ever heard! :) Oh, and no such thing as "brass heavy"! lol
One song. Two masterpieces.
Take me home, I was part of this Fantastic Choir. I just found my copy of the lp which I had thought lost. I don't have a stereo and was looking for the Songs We did. I went to Chesapeake Baltimore County.
It was, without a doubt, an incredible musical experience!

@@altruman Thanks. Yeah, that was a very good time.
Just pulled my SQ-80 out from the closet. What a gem it was on the day I bought it! Now I doubt I could figure out how to even use it. Powered it up and it says battery is bad - keyboard disabled. So I found this vid. Wish the poster had indicated what kind of battery that is. I would check into where I could find one before opening up the beast. Probably not worth the effort. Another piece of technological waste!
If you can't type "ensoniq sq-80 replacement battery" into Google, you probably don't need a keyboard anyway.
you can actually see in the photos @1:49 that it's a panasonic BR2/3-A 3V lithium battery. You just gotta read upside down :)
A dream
I've gotta do mine. Pity they don't just put a battery box on underside as some do! Don't think I can buy batteries in UK & generally youre not allowed to ship them between countries.Have seen a couple on ebay I think are in UK. They're sold as a pair. They're 3 volts, but small & not designed for SQ80 so I'll have to solder a couple of wires and put both in parallel for more power.
use a 123 type with a holder

The San Jacinto Mountain range in California runs along Palm Springs, a very exclusive resort community. When Peter Gabriel did some climbing there, he spotted some ribbons that he thought were part of a Native American ritual, which gave him the impetus for the song. This song explores the contrast between the artificial world of Palm Springs and the Indian communities on the other side of the San Jacinto Mountains who have spiritual ties to the land. Gabriel told Uncut magazine April 2014 the song was written, "about the culture clash between Native America and present-day America."Gabriel was influenced by an Apache Indian he met when he was on tour in the American midwest. This man worked at the motel where the band was staying for the night. He and Gabriel started talking, and he casually explained that his apartment was on fire, and that he was worried about his cat. He had no way to get there, so Gabriel drove him. Gabriel was struck by how the man was only concerned for the cat (which was fine), not his material possessions. They spent most of the night talking, and the man explained the traditional Apache ritual he performed when he 14. Before he could be deemed a Brave, every boy goes with a Medicine Man into the mountains, where a rattlesnake is allowed to bite him. The Medicine Man leaves, and the boy must either find his way down the mountain or die. This story got Gabriel thinking about how many cultures had rituals where young men are forced to face death, which can teach courage and foster an appreciation for life. Beautiful video for an incredible song.... thank you.
One of my favorite PG songs ever.... beautifully done! And if those shots aren't from Valley of Fire, where were they??
I believe they are near the Palm Springs Desert, but further out. There is another RUclips video where he discusses the inspiration for the song.
Nothing beats those interlocking marimbas from the original. Too streamlined. Lacks edge.
+RogueRotting360 Yeah I love those marimbas - maybe they were sampled on the Fairlight. There is plenty of Fairlight on PG4. Also I really love the Plays Live 1982 version, especially the marimbas at the start - so bright, so luminous. It's kind of Philip Glass / Steve Reich stuff, yeah? Maybe Schoenberg too.
@@TheOmanJam - Glass and Reich for sure. Schoenberg, no way.
anche io la penso come te... ;-) l'inciso originale non ha eguali, stesso discorso per il tour ovo GREAT SONG GREAT PETER
Oops: Nad :-)
Bravissimo Dan Sylvan, un buon surrogato per gli orfani di Peter Gabriel :-)

Bit of a mike issue in that second solo but otherwise a most excellent recording, thanks!
don't like the soprano sax in place of the flute.

Great video to a masterpiece of Peter Gabriel interpreted now in a symphonic version, Mixing the first version that has a minimalist Apache caracteristing story two extraordinary things Gabriel's music that brings all the baggage of modern music, theater, experimentation, the genius of one the greatest contemporary musicians, and the story testimony of the ancient wisdom of the Apache nation, the story picks up a spiritual experience, a potential initiate, San Jacinto Peak a sacred place on the Mount, where the Apaches made a ceremony possibly Yólkai Nalin to the goddess of death, equivalent to the Aztec Coatlicue, the Mexica a curious fact is depicted as the head of a rattlesnake, though the ceremony is to let the young teenager being bitten by a rattlesnake in the peak of the mountain, the shaman accompanying him will give you a antivenom which could also cause hallucinations and leaves it on the mountain to find the way back alone, or die. Gabriel rightly includes the story almost like I hear, the apache contransting her vision with modern thought, accompanying it musical landscapes described the fog, so apresion a moment between life and death and all the company of this nature is, whithout a doubt is a master piece certainly that deserves more attention.
Selected lyrics from the powerful "San Jacinto" song by Peter Gabriel...so deep for me...I'm trying to 'hold the line': "Something moving in, I taste it in my mouth and in my heart It feels like dying, slow, letting go of life... I hold the line, the line of strength that pulls me through the fear San Jacinto, I hold the line San Jacinto, the poison bite and darkness take my sight, I hold the line And the tears roll down my swollen cheek, think I'm losing it, getting weaker I hold the line, I hold the line..."
Aaaah !!... those were the days when you could turn on, tune in, and drop out. : - ) Great video, especially from 2:42 onwards... just magical !!!
Super musik very ok
Classic Moody Blues that takes you to another place
PG was in Palm Springs area, which sits at the foot of 11000 ft. Mt. San Jacinto. This is the inspiration of San Jacinto reference.
Outstanding editing!
love it c:
Curiously, the Apache language included in this song do not appear in the published lyrics: San Jacinto is in Texas. It is the home of the northern branches of the Apache Nation. The song San Jacinto has the words in the chorus "hey now Wakan Tonka" the name of the great spirit in the Oglala Lakota language. The Apache words for "god" are Bik' ehgo' ihi' dan. I saw a clip from Mr. Gabriel's "live" San Jacinto and he mentions a conversation with an Apache who inspired him to write the song.
Bello !!!!!! mi trasporta ogni volta che lo sento.
where is peter ?
Aren't these the days of the Woodstock anniversary?
The shadows at 4:10. If you get a chance to look through a telescope capable of looking directly at the sun . . . that's what you'll see. The radiation. That's radiation being given off. And visible light? A sort of illusion that is real when there are shadows to reflect the light. Shadows? You & I.
Je vous remercie pour votre aimable commentaire!
Fantastique musique qui inspire de nombreux musiciens...... très belle vidéo :)
Excellent!
It's a band out of Manchester, England called Elbow. It's kind of what it might have sounded like if Peter Gabriel joined Pink Floyd :-) The lyrics and soundscapes are like a talented artist with paint and canvas. They're awesome!
Such a great song and your video is really cool!
Agreed, W&W is Genesis’ “last” album. Apart from a very few iffy tracks over the years, up until that time, they ploughed their own exquisite musical furrow which usually rewarded informed attention with endless hours of pleasure in its complexity and depth, its subtlety and craftsmanship. Accessible rock fusion; superb genre.
This is a rare example of Hackett choosing a very effective vocalist; this guy’s voice actually has very attractive Gabrielesque qualities; shame Hackett’s judgement lets him down so often in this respect cos it ruins some of his otherwise sometimes excellent reinterpretations of classic material.
Chill man, it's all Genesis!
this song is my fav from this album...its just so true in the real world with some sentances:I need someone to believe in,someone to trust....i'd rather trust a country man than a townman,.........i'd rather trust a man who works with his hands,he looks at you once, you know he understands.....these words were so true as i developed in the work place and as a human being....damn, peter gabriel was goin through some real hard times and would not tell anyone..so he writes a double album to explain
the ONLY genesis song i really hate dont know why..like u say it just rubs ya the wrong way..
Nice treatment of one of his best songs... EVER!
one by one these people should stop, look at camera and say i'm a fu... moron, thank you very much!!!!!
