I have a few too many games on my shelf-o-shame right now though 😅 If anyone is looking for a similar but more modern system *Perils and Princesses* would work well for these kinds of stories and is also very easy to learn and play!

Thanks for this. I enjoyed listening to your thoughts and those of your listeners. I must admit, I got carried away with the language - notable in your discussion around 1:00:00. I tried to hard to get over the sense of weird occult englishness with colourful words. If I get around to a refresh of the text (a strong chance of that happening later this year - 2024 - or early next), I would focus on simple and accessible language.

Thanks for the video! As a Whovian and TTRPG fan I like what C7 has done with Doctor Who, and I own all their 1E and 2E books. The whole 5E-Who thing just seems like an odd choice; 2E is such a simple/narrative system it doesn't take any time to grok. The criticism of the Starter Set is valid. Might just be me, but I find starter sets in general are just vehicles for extra stuff (maps, dice, etc). Between review videos and actual plays I can usually tell whether or not a game system is for me without having to test-drive it. I've stopped buying starters unless they're like The One Ring 2E version where I wanted the Shire maps, stance cards, etc.

Hey Fiona! Kurt here. Thank you for engaging with our game -- it was a lot of fun to make, and we feel lucky to have people (like Brian!) who this struck a chord with. Touching on some interesting points: FONTS - I wish I knew! I almost always illustrate and format my games, but Here We Used to Fly was blessed by both talented illustrators and a formatting editor. I'd be curious to hear what font you used for the logo. CAN PLAYERS VOICE NPCS - Sure, why not? We don't highlight this choice in the rules because we wanted to push people towards a limited cast. It's rare that you have games where there's JUST the core "party," but it provides an opportunity to really get deep into the interpersonal connections and conflict. But folks with storygame experience will probably create and play with NPCs as a natural by-product of the story. SPOOKY VIBES - We're actually playing around with a horror expansion, haha. With elements of the paranormal contrasting with the existing indie film vibes, you end up with something that's more tragic than scary. I like that though. Some of the new playbooks include Imaginary, Haunted, Psychic, and Dead. Weird new attractions, too (which naturally includes a Haunted House, lol). FIRST TIMERS - I 100% thought this wouldn't be a great fit for newbies, but weirdly, they tend to be best at it. Folks who have mostly played stat or combat-centric games have way more expectations that actively work against them letting go. It's been a real eye opener for me. Thanks again for the readthrough!
