The tape is called redline tape, it is actually stronger then the tear tape. Tear tape is ok but if you are making something that has tension on it like a ball shape tear tear comes apart where the redline tape holds.

Sounds like the threads may be stripped on your camera stand. This can happen just from repeated use, or from overtightening. If you always need it to be in the same position, you might be able to superglue it in place? Or if you want to preserve some flexibility, I could imagine attaching some dowels from one part of the stand to the other, to brace it? Might not look pretty, but that's not the part that shows on camera, so who cares! Love the idea of this card, but going to experiment with a variation, so it still opens up, with a pocket on inside left, and message on inside right. Thinking 2 strips of 6 × 12 paper could work...
