Hello and welcome to our channel Real Time Reviews.
For ages i had an idea to setup a RUclips channel that reviews still current items (such as tools and electrical's) that have been used for a minimum of six months before being reviewed. This will hopefully give you the viewer a better idea of the reliability, robustness and long term suitability of the item in question. And allow you to make a more informed buying choice. Also along the way we will of coarse be reviewing brand new items and perhaps revisiting them after a period of use.

Hello and welcome to the channel!
In today's video we are looking at my new Ryobi RRS18-0 18V ONE+ Reciprocating Saw / sawsall. I've owned and used 2 of the previous model saws (the RRS1801M} over a four year period. One was a warranty replacement and both have died due to the motors burning out. So why have I invested in a third you may be wondering? Because I have loads of Ryobi battery's and I genuinely like this very useful and often used tools.

wow, i will buy it
Its done me proud!
What is it with content reviewers and comparing everything to apple.
What else do I compare aftermarket Apple AirTags too?
What blades would you recommend over the Ryobi ones for bushes etc if you dont mind me asking. Great video very informative thanks 😊
@kevinedward6132 I bought some from B&Q. They were some generic ones. I used them before, and they seem pretty good.
How do you remove the trimmer guard to access the inside shaft? I have pant material that got caught up inside that I need to remove. I have undone all screws but need to remove the guard to open it up.
That's a good question. So far I've never had to do it because I've always managed to pull debris out from that area.
Hi quick question once you identify the spark plug that’s causing bubbling and remove the plug and injector plug do you run the car with expansion cap on or off?
That's a good question. Not entirely sure?
They're either clone or aftermarket. They can't be both. I bought a used dead 4A battery. When repairing it, it was over 75% charged and the markings on the cells indicate (if correct) 4.1A capacity
I just like words :)
I got an old Mazda 2 for free from a friend who just wanted to get rid of it. I know it has a head gasket problem but almost not noticeable if you don´t know what to look for, that´s the reason he wanted to get rid of it. It has TÜV (mot) until end of next year so I figured why not use it until it dies. This review was exactly in time I just found out about this stuff and thought about trying it but now i know I´ll use one on this old engine, maybe I can get one or two more years out of it. Everything else is in pretty good condition.
Sounds like the perfect car to try a bottle on.
Think it really depends on how bad the gasket was. Driving it home under the circumstances you described originally probably made the difference in hiw effective it was. Nice to see an update. Would hatebto be replacing a gasket after this was used though 😂
@IOTWVUVWTOI I'm not abib fan of these quick fixes, very suspicious normally. But it does seem (in this case) sort the issue out. 👍
Yeah, that little rough start is more likely your timing... But good for you 😊
Just bought this saw. The instructions are lacking. What is the allen key for?
@@river6449 to remove the blade. 👍
@@realtimereviews123 thanks... We had to watch a few RUclipss to finally see someone explain it. Not even Ryobi videos mention it. Otherwise the saw is a real beast and we are very happy with it.
@@river6449 glad to be of assistance!
Interesting review thanks
Just my own personnel take. Thanks for watching.
Just the type of review I needed to make my mind up. Many thanks for taking the time to make this video. I'm going to buy one. Cheers.
Glad it was helpful!
Think am too
Im convinced, im off to grab a second hand one😂 Im only blowing dust out the workshop
Find it great with three batteries for switching f charging. But for blowing dry leaves off the ground . that a trigger alongside the switch would be better for battery energy efficiency use like a cordless electric Dyson vacuum
Thank you for sharing. Greatly appreciate. I was hesitant to purchase one. Now that I have seen your comprehensive review of the RYOBI RRS 1801M 18V One+Reciprocating Saw. I will definitely purchase one.
I think it's a useful tool. 👍
Thankyou for this review going ot get one of these myself was a bit on the fence but I already have ryobi batters for my drill/driver. Where did you see the body only for £44? Also can you tell us what the arftermarket battery you use is?
I just watched a Scotty Kilmer vid on the stuff... he gives a couple of tips on making it work better in it (remove the t-stat, find the cyllender with the offending leak, remove the plug and injector wire from there, let idle for a half hour, let cool, repeat four or five times). I am going to try it... nothing to lose.
Well my Micra is still going.
There is no lubrication on the arms inside undo the Phillips screws and have a look that's bad.
Will do. 👍
Think it needs more power and a metal blade would be great too
More power is always nice. But for light to medium duty its fine. 👍
How to unscrew head?
Change the strimmer reel and line? Unclipped the cover on pop another in, then refit. 👍
Thanks for that it may become another tool in my garage 🤔 can you drop me a link to the batteries you reference please.
Can you use as a preventative maintenance and pour it in radiator even when head gasket is still working properly? I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze is know for head or head gasket problem. Thanks again for video any feedback appreciated
Yes I believe you can
No its not recommended to do that if yous car is working okay
Plus also you put antifreeze in with it when it calls for treatment with water only.
It says on the bottle use antifreeze
@@karlmeadows4986 call the phone number. Mr Robert will tell you how to use it. You can only use antifreeze without silicates in it such as antifreeze for foreign cars..!! Mr. Robert is a chemist and works for the company and will tell you everything you need to know. He will tell you don't go by the directions on the bottle go by the instructions that come with the treatment.
@@karlmeadows4986 but only using the antifreeze after you flush the system after the treatment.
It does say on the bottle use antifreeze
Bit confusing having two lots of instructions.
Why didn’t you close the coolant cap? When it literally says you should do that?
I did run it with the cap on. I only removed it to see if any bubbles were forming
A good review.
Thank you. Tryed to be as honest as possible.
Good vid. My sister in law gave me a Ryobi electric mower - works great - they bought a bigger one so l already have a battery & was looking at one of these as I'm sick of dealing with 2 stokes. They are about $90 aussie & with the amount of wippering l do, not much, your vid has convinced me to go grab ome.
I don't think for what they are they're a bad tool. I'm on my second one now as the first one (featured in the video), Handle fell apart, but the tools get used to death! 👍
What happens to all the steel seal? Does it remain in the system once the leak has sealed?
I believe so.
The replacement has faired a lot better. It doesn't run half as hot. I think i got a duff one. 😢
How is your car now?
I'm going to do a follow up very soon. 👍
I had a very small vacuum in the cooling system in my Hyundai Sonata, with the engine overheating constantly and the antifreeze boiling in the reservoir. I put Steal seal in, drove it for about 30 to 40 minutes and it completely fixed the problem.❤
I'm going to do a follow-up video to this when I get a chance. But I think there are lots of people that it works a treat for. 👍
My car was overheating running rough on start up and white smoke out the exhaust oil was fine I used steel fix and it worked no overheating since,I didn’t think it would work but it did
How’s it holding up?
How long did that fix it?
You need to figure out which cylinder is causing the issue by either checking the spark plugs to see if coolant is on one of them or run the engine with one of the spark plugs out at a time and disconnect the fuel line for that cylinder and then check to see when the coolant stops bubling, once you figure out which cylinder the bubling stops at you need run the engine for 30 min with that spark plug out as there will be less pressure and should seal better, there are instructions on the website as the method you used works best for external leaks not internal leaks as you have backpressue (bubbles in your coolant), hope that helps
Good bit of advice there. 👍
How would you use it on just one cylinder, please explain ?
@@MrxOnurb you would run the engine with one of the spark plugs not inserted and the the fuel line disconnected for that cylinde
Hi quick question once you identify the spark plug that’s causing bubbling and remove the plug and injector plug do you run the car with expansion cap on or off?
@arf7866 off
Any updates?
Yes I'm going to be doing a followup video very soon.
I’ve got the 40V version of this. (Actually it’s 36V but in the US they can BS on their advertisements). I’ve found the motor head could really use a blowout with compressed air from time to time. Dirt and debris gets in there. I got mine used on Craigslist a few years ago after aggravation of trying to start a gas one. They run the 18V versions like you have on sale from time to time for $50 with a battery is which is not a bad deal. I’m a big fan of Ryobi stuff. Got their 40V mower and blower as well. 18V stuff is the inflator sawzall circ saw drill stick vacuum and fan. All good stuff. Take care.
Blimey, that's cheap! It's very rarely discounted here in the uk 😢. I've noticed that from time to time, fibourous bits of plant material can get wrapped around the head. And that's a right pain to get clear! 😮
Like your video but oh my goodness. That shop bench is a mess! It found the 4AH batteries really make this tool. The 2AH batteries don’t have the chooch. Also. Yea. The factory blades are garbage. Throw them out.
Yep it's a s#@t tip! I've got some aftermarket 6Ah battery that are alot better! 😂
Take a look at the refurb stuff. I got a refurb recip saw for $15. But listen. These are light weight tools. You can’t push them. You have to baby them and let the blade work. It’s not like a high end wired Milwaukee Sawzall. It’s a light weight tool.
Also. Their blades are absolute shit. Get some nicer blades and you’ll be happy!
Men this shyt doesn’t work wasted
It works if you change the oil first, put in the Steel Seal, run it for 30 minutes, cool it down for 24 hours, change the oil and filter again and flush the radiator. That's what I get out of all the comments so far on half a dozen videos about Steel Seal.
@@jahill7965 Why change the oil first?
@@dhalsim-1 because the oil may be contaminated with water from the gasket leak or other additives. Also, the water may be contaminated or even worse it may contain coolant/antifreeze. SS will not work properly with coolant. The repair will break. The system must only contain pure water. Once the repair is complete, and the car has been sitting for 24 hours, a second flush is needed to rid the system of any surplus SS which may be circulating in the system if left. It is very abrasive if it's allowed to circulate and over time could cause erosion to things like the water pump. Coolant can be added to the water once all checks have come back clear. The info came from the manufacturer of Steel Seal. I emailed them and asked a lot of questions because I did not want to risk stuffing up my Audi altogether.
@@jahill7965 Yes but it makes more sense to change the oil afterwards once the repair is complete.
You are risking it not working as you aren't following the manufacturer's SS fine print. Up to you though but as long as you're aware that you are also risking your motor being damaged. This is what they advised, so I am going the extra mile because I am not prepared to risk going against manufacturer's advice and stuffing up my car. 😊
❤
I love you too 😂
Not enough evidence there was a head gasket leak to begin with. Were you losing coolant?
Yes, and there was a lot of heavy vapor from the exhaust and a bit of smeg under the filler cap. Also loads of bubbles from the radiator and coolant system pressurizing more than normal.
@@realtimereviews123 has coolant stopped disappearing eventually?
@@SinsBirdstill uses a bit.
Woah they actually admit it's sodium silicate based?! So all these years they were saying, buy our product, because it's superior to sodium silicate sealers...
The truth is out! 😂
Mine burnt out with normal use, I have a review coming out on Friday this week (not fishing) but this just popped out in my feed - nice video btw, subscibed
The handle fell to bits a couple of weeks ago, but the actual strimmer still works. I've since bought another. So far i'm impressed as this tool took a battering!!!!
the new blade that is
I think its about 4-5" long.
what size wood blade did you use please
If your car is still running. Change the coolant and add a second bottle. Sometimes in bad leaks takes 2 attempts. The first one probably made the leaks less the second one might finish them off.
Still got the car. Still running. 😲
Exactly what I was about to write, smart guy, great minds think alike👌🏼. Since he said it I'll just come t off him, give it a 2nd treatment, you never know we're the crack was, how bad it was, if it was just the gasket, or a cracked head or block, your not sure how bad a fix it had to do inside there 🤷🏻♂️. So it looks like you had a lot going on in there because I've seen this stuff permanently fix off the first treatment. The fact that it clearly made a big difference BUT YOU STILL HAD SOME BUBBLING TELLS YOU ITS A BIG FIX IN THERE, PROBLY MAYBE EVEN A WARPED HEAD. 2ND TREATMENT MY GUY 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thank you for this video and that trimmer is on my short list of possible purchases. Can you share your experience with how long the Ryobi 2 AH battery lasts? Manufacturer quotes 20 min. but I'm sure it's a bit less in practice. Thanks.
Mark if I get chance yes. Although I use the aftermarket 6ah batteries and they seem to give a good account of themselves.
With regards to battery life 20mins for the genuine one is probably about right. Although you do get a loss of power towards the end. And I suppose heavier cutting will drain the battery faster. This is apparent when using the brush cutter attachment on thicker weeds. I have a large garden which I look after, so next time I'm there I will only use my 2ah battery and see how far I get. But it's mainly used for edging on that job. 👍👍
@@realtimereviews123 I appreciate the reply and that tells me enough; no need to go out of your way to test it. A local store is running a special where you get a second battery for free if you buy the trimmer with a battery already included. I'm in the market for both a battery powered mower and trimmer and was hoping to get some battery interchangeability by sticking with Ryobi. However, their mowers don't compare that well with others so, I will probably end up buying a Bosch mower and this Ryobi trimmer today. Your experience has convinced me that buying this won't be a mistake. Thanks again for the informative video.👍
@@realtimereviews123which 6ah aftermarket batteries did you get?😊
Did it work
Well still have the car. And it's still going! So at some point I think a follow up video is necessary? 👍👍
To be honest with you mate that bottle of steel seal looked like it was diluted with water, didn't look like genuine steel seal to me, not quite the right colour it should be much more yellowish, did you purchase it online ?? Cos I got mine from halfords and its the best £42 quid I've ever spent there
@@FRANK-ri1rs yeah it came from Amazon, wasn't cheap.
@2009Proj3ct good luck buddy hope it works for you too
@@FRANK-ri1rs I totally agree, the color is way too light and not the right yellow/green to be uncut genuine steel seal.
You're a natural. I trust and value your opinion.
Thank you very much. :)
Nice video. The audio's a bit spotty, but it looks like it's still early days for your channel, and the video's still better than 90% of the other videos I've watched on fledgling channels. :) Anyway, The original full tool/battery/charger kit Ryobi sold USED to come with a 2 Amp hour battery (That kits part number was "RRS1801-L20G"), But the more recent kits have a 4 amp hour battery in it instead (RRS1801-140GK). I'm guessing someone at Ryobi noticed everyone moaning about this tools power hungry nature. You mention you use clone batteries. I've used Ryobi tools on home DIY projects for years, and have a mix of genuine and clone batteries. Most of the clones tend to only put out about half the marked capacity, and only last about 2/3rd's of the life of a genuine one before they're bin fodder, so cost wise, if you look at it as cost per holes drilled or feet of boards cut, the price of genuine batteries isn't really that much above the clones. That said, if I were a contractor and sometimes drills would go missing from work sites, I'd rather lose a drill with a 20 quid clone battery in it than one with a 60 quid genuine one. Horses for courses I guess. The best thing about the clone batteries flooding the market though, is that it's forced Ryobi to lower the price of the genuine ones a little. As a little side note. The cheapest option to get some Ryobi tools with a battery is to register for their online promotions newsletter..... Then wait. Every once and a while they have a special offer where if you buy one of their 5 amp hour batteries for £99 (Though that price sometimes changes) you can chose a free tool to go with it. Surprisingly considering you're buying direct from Ryobi, the battery isn't as cheap as you'll find it elsewhere, but if you're getting the 60 to 80 quid tool you want thrown in for free, it's still 30 or 40 quid cheaper than the comparable kit.
Well I didn't know that about the promotion's. Yes the audio in some places is a little rough because the internal mic on the action cam isn't brilliant. I'm trying to locate the little usb external microphone for it. So it should improve matters. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍👍
