okay. so I love how you said, its not between jess, dean, and logan, and its really just between jess and logan. I totally agree with that. The thing is after watching it many times, and watching AYITL, I feel as if, Jess has gotten too good for Rory. And I feel like Logan and Rory deserve each other. She is cheating on Paul, just like Logan is cheating on Odette, or whatever her name is. And then she goes and gets pregnant with some guy that she doesn't even know. So she is acting more like Logan in the original series, and just sleeping around because she can, and doesnt really stop to think about other people's feelings. I don't know. In my opinion, I think Rory and Logan deserve whatever Karma is due to them.

I've always thought they were very similar yet different. I think Lorelai mirrors some of Emily's actions, the easiest example is when Rory herself says it. When Lorelai invited Dean to their house without asking Rory. They're not exactly the same but even if Lorelai would hate it, they are still alike. Many people hate Emily or Lorelai and they fail to notice this. They are complex characters and that's beautiful writing.

I am saying this without watching the video, but it definitely Logan. Despite being my least favorite, i can admit he the perfect man for Rory. Despite being raised by Lorelai, Rory always had more on common with her grandparents and kinda fitted right into their world. The only thing holding back Rory was everyone expectation of her. That and her mother influence (i am not bashing Lorelai here btw). I think if everybody had let her be the upper class woman she could have been, she wouldn't be the mess she is now. That not the only reason why Logan is perfect for her. They both are intellectually and psychologically equa. Which is why Logan doesn't put her in a pedestal since he can see right through her and see that they're both similar. Unlike Dean and Jess who always saw Rory as better than them. This not only forced Rory to be on her toes but also made her work for the relationship. Two things Rory used to not do in her previous relationship. Plus, despite his flaws, Logan loved all of Rory. Including her flaws. Like i said, he never out her in this weird pedestal everyone else in her life did.

This show was good for the time remember it’s just a show something to watch nothing more funny everyone was disappointed that Rory ended up pregnant and had trouble finding her job I thought it was a good ending making her a real person we all had that smart person in school got into a great school got a degree just to be a stay at home mom

finally a someone who uses critical thinking when it comes to gilmore girls. so tired of people loving lorelei but hating on rory blindly. Its a complex relationship, theyre complex characters. Not many maybe understand the nuances of single mother - daughter relationships. Rory had no space to be herself as a teen she had to play a perfect role and no wonder she acted out later.

YEEES!! Agree 100%, I think people chose to forget that Jess was a teen with a lot of baggage. He is in fact one of my favorite characters in the show, and as many others, came to conclude that Rory is not good enough for him.

None. Rory is a walking red flag.

I think there's a big difference between a safety net and a crutch. The point of a safety net is to catch you as a last resort in a high stakes situation. A crutch is something you can lean on on. And is meant to be a short term tool when healing, if otherwise able bodied, or for short distances as need if disabled long term. BUT using or relying on a crutch longterm or long distance when unneeded is likely to hinder or injure you rather than help you. She used her privilege as a crutch. AND was completely in denial about it.

I totally agree! I rarely see anyone standing up for Jess. I know he messed up badly , but I also think people were unfair to him. He didn't have a loving and healthy upbringing. Even so, he ended up a decent man. And just like you said, he challenged her and kept up with her cleverness, also respecting and liking her for being the way she was, they had similar interests while having different personalities. Jess will always be my favorite, I also love Milo Ventimiglia lol.

Finally someone did a video for Skyler. Thank you! ♥ My ending would go like this: Walt is dead (like in the show), Skyler sits in this crappy home with her kids (like in the show). She turns the coordinates to the DEA and gets a deal of let's say five years of probation. Of course she's lost the car wash. Maybe she gets back with Ted who has recovered and works as his bookkeeper again, keeping all his stuff together and clean. After a while, she moves in with Marie who has been living in that huge house with four bedrooms all by herself. All this is boring to her as she misses all the adventure she went through with Walt. Meanwhile, Walt jr. has gone to college with the "fund money" from Gretchen and Elliot. He wants to be a scientist. Later he'll get married to Louis. Holly turns out being a smart kid, maybe a piano prodigee or something like that. So here starts the new series. Skyler tells Marie about the White Supremacists (which she learned about in her trial) and the money they kept hidden. Both startsearchingand stumble over.... SURPRISE! .... Kim Wexler. The trio will eventually find the money (after lots of twists and turns). They do not get caught (because they are careful and no narcisissts), and at the end, each of them goes their own way. Skyler and Holly move to New York so Holly can attend Juillard School. Marie stays in Albuquerque and remarries. Kim takes an attempt to get Saul out of prison and succeeds. 🤣

This might get controversial but hear me out: I blame Chris for some of it. How Rory acts with Dean and Logan is learned behavior from how Chris treats Lorelai. Like Chris was definitely around enough for Rory to see that as normal. She also has abandonmemt/daddy issues and seeks the approval of people in authority, which is why Logan's dads words affect her so much, I think. I think we're quick to blame Lorelai or Emily for Rory but imo Rory is also a whole adult for a lot of this and never really takes responsibility for her actions. She can always blame someone else or be the victim because it fits the narrative she wants to spin for herself. She never has to look inward or reflect on her actions because she sees herself as in the right and (in a lot of circumstances) better than other people. So she will justify hurting other people because she literally doesnt see a problem with it. "I want this so it must be the right thing to do." She's also a bad friend and treats Lane poorly 😅 but that's for a different comment.

I'm currently rewatching GG after 10 years, I did not remember Lorelai being this unsufferable. I can't stand her at all!!! Yes, she's witty and funny sometimes, but so immature, and it reflects in the way she raised Rory - which made Rory more and more annoying and spoiled as the show goes on. Most times I find myself agreeing with Emily. It is clear Lorelai's parents were and are still very controlling, and Lorelai has the right to be upset and distance herself, but GOD. She will always do whatever is the opposite to what Emily is saying. That episode where she needs to get a loan to fix her house, she refuses Emily's help over and over again for pure pride. Lorelai didn't even have savings. As a parent - especially since she had a decent job - should have a fair amount saved for emergencies!!!!!!!! In the end she got the loan with Emily's help, but her fighting it was so annoying. Let's not even get started on her childish taste and making fun of people for liking things that she thought was stupid. Also, her being jealous of Luke when he's seeing someone is so stupid to me. Mind your own business lol, she dated many guys and that's fine, but when Luke meets someone nice she acts like a freak. She goes nuts when Luke didn't tell her before about moving in with Nicole. It's ridiculous. Nicole didn't like Lorelai much, and honestly, if I were her I probably wouldn't either. Similar thing happened with Sherry. I swear I could go on and on and on about this lol. Anyways, great video!

I watched this so long ago but yes I see some faults in their relationship. It was really a friend - friend relationship between them which was helpful in some areas but mostly harmful. I think it’s a case of over correcting and then missing the mark completely

yes that's true! I feel like every time she had a ''parent'' reaction she automatically associated that with her parents and thought of it as something negative just like her reaction when her mom agreed with her with jess you could see the physical disgust it was enough for her to change her opinion entirely! it's like she does'nt have her own opinion her parenting style like everything was based off the opposite of what her mom would do 😂

Thanks for this take, I actually can't even watch the show anymore because of this dynamic. The problem isn't that Lorelei is close to Rory, it is that she expects Rory to help deal with her emotions while never taking it seriously when Rory feels differently. She brings Rory around to her parents but rejects her not hating them the same she does, she makes Rory believe Dean is the greatest boyfriend there is (he is not) and she was wrong in choosing Jess but then leaves her alone when hurt by Jess leaving. Also the silent treatment after she wants to drop out of Yale: Rory was hurt because she felt all her work was not good enough, and instead of taking her seriously she stops talking to her for not doing what she wants. It seems like everyone says Rory becoming more distant from Lorelai in season 6 was the problem but I think she didn't have enough before. Lorelei didn't like it when Rory developed interests different from her, like when she liked cooking and going to the gym with Logan she made fun of her. That is also controlling and not allowing jer daughter to be an independent person, even though it may not have been as obvious or as extreme as Emily. It is understandable where Lorelai is coming from but that doesn't mean she could do no wrong.

Lorelai’s relationship with men and the example she set really influenced Rory moving forward and led to a lot of the stuff you discussed. Also the fact that they constantly berate Lorelai for getting pregnant at 16, it puts a lot of pressure on Rory to be better. That feels true. That’s why Rory always aims to get the highest grades and do the best academically. Rory has been under a lot of pressure as the one in the family labeled “most likely to succeed”.

You really think Mitcham wasn't trying to destabilise Rory? Don't get me wrong I think Rory handled it horribly... but I do not believe Mitcham had Rory's best interest at heart.

I think you are generally right about the negative role of the safety net. I will just add here, that Rory's personality was overall forming in the circumstances that she never felt any real consequences of her bad decisions. Safety net was a large part of it, but also these "gifted child" vibes did contributed too. E.g. Logan or Paris - they are much more in touch with reality simply because in their childhood and youth there was no the whole town kissing them on the forehead all the time

I agree 100%. I remember when she disapproved of jess, and thinking this is the first time (that I can recall now at least) she's behaved/had the reaction of a parent. The main problem was she had Rory, as a naive child herself and in the aim to not end up like her own parents she overcorrected. I don't think she was worse than Emily and Richard, but there were definitely boundaries that should've been in place.

I feel like for the affair and bad relationships there is no one else to blame but Rory. Loreali didn’t set the best example of how to be in a relationship but she certainly didn’t such a horrible example that it should have rubbed-off on Rory. I however do like the slow decent of Rory becoming like her mother. Rory didn’t break any patterns she just changed the pattern timeline.

She was not gifted. She was treated like that gifted because she liked doing things other people didn't...in a small town. She was regular from the beginning, only liked to read a lot...that's it.

I agree that Rory was set to be a hard working young woman, until she spent more time with her rich grandparents (Friday night dinners). She brushed off the expense of Chilton, saved no money for her Ivy league college goals, not sure where the money for the three month Europe trip came from, and has a trust fund to fall back on. She assumed everything would be handed to her since she had the "right" last name and had come from money. Loved the video.

Agree. Donna was the most annoying character. Didn't deserve COO title. Especially because all of her decisions and actions taken as a COO were bad decisions. Holier-than-thou attitude. Always meddling and causing mess ups with her involvement. Can't even do Doc Review. After so many years of being in the legal industry, didn't even know that you have to put up your own money on the table to become a Partner. Being Sassy and taking Alex's clients documents along with her in the process causing Alex to lose a client and Gretchen to mess up. The whole Thomas Kessler goof up. Told Steve Buzzini to do shitty stuff. The whole "Donna" gadget episode. Malik put her in her place and revealed her true colors, where every other character on Suits and the audience have just been letting all these facts slip buy and just buying into her sassy, red-head charm and BS

I'm literally Rory. I remember even getting "Most Likely to Succeed" in the school yearbook. Now, I'm at a job that has no prospects for growth. I feel like I'm just coasting through life.
