A spinning rivet nut can be drilled out with the same size or just smaller, drill bit as the drill bit that originally drilled the install hole. Then, the rivet nut will fall out of the hole and a new rivet nut can be installed in the same hole, since the hole size didnt get any larger. A properly set rivet nut should not spin unless excessive torque is applied to the rivet nut or it rusts out. You can try a “keyed head” or “hex body” rivet nut for superiority in spin out performance, although a typical round body rivet nut performa well in most applications. 2” steel is extremely thick application for rivet nuts. Typically, rivet nuts only grip up to .500” thick. Tube lasers or a CnC milling center will be your options to cut in a hex hole in the material you described.

Yes, great point. Depending on the application, it might make more sense to turn one tool and hold the other tool stationary. Typically, we prefer to hold the hex wrench firm and turn the crescent wrench for max install torque. The video shows the opposite though, with the hex wrench turning, and since it is a tiny rivet nut that doesn't need significant install torque, the installer can get away with it.

How do you get the hex shape cut in the material?

Yes. You would need the correct thread size to match the Rivnut installed. If you install a 1/4-20 Rivnut you could go buy a 1/4-20 screw from local hardware store and thread through the Rivnut.
