Making a 3D printed Fly Testing Tank
Просмотров 334Месяц назад
Hey guys! I'm back with yet another 3d printing & fly fishing fusion project! In this video I set out to create my own fly testing tank. This certainly is not an original idea that I came up with. There are many other fly testing tank projects out there and in this video I mention the commercially available fly testing tank by a company called Flymen. So instead of buying their product, I thoug...
Testing 3D Printed Fish Skull Designs Again! - Fly Fishing Video
Просмотров 3763 месяца назад
Hey guys! So if you recall a while ago I posted 2 separate videos where I 3d modeled and then printed fish skull designs for tying baitfish pattern flies used for fly fishing. Well since I was unable to catch anything that wasn't just foul hooked, I have decided that now would be a good time to test them out again. Enjoy! Good work! I will try to make a bait like that also. Nice video! Have a nice day.
Thanks for sharing. I had such a fun time at the event. I must have missed your booth. I hope to see you and your husband at the event again next year.
MMM founder can you print a fly rod? Joking..
Loved this perspective. It was great as an attendee, so appreciative of all of you creators who stepped up to be exhibitors and help make it a great and memorable event! Subbed. <3
Thank you for sharing! See you next year
What a cool juicer!
Congrats Alexa, this is awesome!
Thanks Kirk :)
Great recap!
You really did the whole thing. Very cool.
I need your help...😢
Hi, sorry but as I have mentioned before in a different comment, I am unable to help you with making a hybrid reel.
@@LexieEclectic ok but your videos was nice
Hello, just like you i am very passionate about fly fishig reel. I have some questions about fly fishing reel. I am from india. Here we use it but there is no adjustable drag system. I want to make a hybrid reel. Can you help me?
Hello, thank you for your interest in my channel and my related work. I've never designed a fly fishing reel myself, I've only ever made 3d printed fly reels that other people designed and posted on thingiverse. So perhaps your best bet is downloading their designs off thingiverse and looking at how they made their's. You'll find links to their designs in the descriptions of my previous 3d printer reel review videos part 1 and part 2. Hope this helps.
@@LexieEclectic Thanks for your reply. But how to make a drag, break system For fly fishing reel? What kind of things(washers, bearing, nut 🔩 etc) should I use for it? I want to make it like spinning fishing reel drag system.
I ran out of time to see everything but shortly before the end I remember seeing your colorful booth! Very cool, I'm excited for next year as well
Thank you for visiting my booth and your kind comment. Yes the sheer amount of cool booths to see was unbelievable, I wish I had more time to see more.
It was a pleasure to meet you at open sauce this year! Hope to make it out next year as well!
Thx, for sharing 👍
Ty for sharing the video. Especially your personal story. I’m very similar

Correct this is a tutorial using Prusa Slicer and Prusa MK3s.
Thats so cool , you can use a fluid analysis software to analize drag , etc .
Lol I love your profile picture! Too bad, I am going to be near Cali on the 17th, just going to miss you
Nice! Thank you for idea!
Would this work ok for dry flies/poppers if the water level was dropped?
Link pz
Too bad more fly fishers are not watching your informative video. I want to try fly fishing for surf perch, which is saltwater surf fishing, and do not want to expose my "good" flyreels to the salt so I plan to print reels for this use. The plastic is inherently unaffected by the salt and if anything breaks the cost is minimal. I think this is a perfect application for this technology - warming-up my Prusa now :)
You have a super interesting channel! I definitely need a 3d printer in my life.
Great video! Helluva cast you have.
I'm glad you got your citizenship!
nice
Hey Lexie , Congrats 🎉, can you share the 3d models files please 🤍
Hi! Awesome channel and great vídeo, congrats for the beautiful crown. But, I have a question about the phase 5. Why didn't you only used the "shell" feature? If it works well, would be more efficient.
Its a good start, but now, Connect it to a V8 diesel engine. Then it will be Truly American.
🤣
Congratulations on your hard work. 4 bar linkages are neat. Now you know more about the way the country works than an embarrassingly large fraction of the rest of us 🤣. Good Job.
😂
Congrats, welcome. Nice project. 👍👍
Congratulations on your citizenship. That's a fun project. Bevel gears are a real pain in Fusion, so nice job.
Those are super cool! I can see this being useful for a teaching tool for beginners or children, Great Video!
get a voltmeter, it will make your day better 😊
Yeah, I did use one to measure the voltage after frying my LED and motor lol. I honestly had no idea that stacking batteries made the voltage higher. Learning by trial and error.
That's a very cool project. Some leds have built in resistors. Maybe your red ones do. You can also buy flashing leds and color changing leds but they also need an inline resistor. I think an N20 gear motor would be a good match for your project as they are much smaller but have good torque and low current draw. I use them in my projects. You might consider 3 AAA batteries in a Cylindrical holder for a 4.5 Volt supply. The batteries will last a lot longer than the coin cells and I doubt you will need the 15 Volts. Your circuit is a series circuit and all the current for the motor runs through the led and the led resistor. Probably not a good ideal. To get around that you could make a junction block with 3 contact points. This will allow you to make a parallel circuit. Then you would have the led and resistor on one branch and the motor on another branch. I think you will really enjoy learning electronics. It goes well with the 3D printing hobby.
Thanks for the insights👍
Excelente video, un abrazo desde la Patagonia Argentina
Good idea
Well done Lexie, this is great! Did you try the red LED last? I think the reason could be that the batteries got damaged during your first few tries with the white LEDs. Connecting an LED directly to 15 volts creates high current flowing through both the LED and the batteries. When you fried the LED, you may also have damaged the batteries to the point where they can’t supply that much current anymore, saving your red LED. 😊
Yeah I think I probably did damage the batteries.
Hi!!! Great video You have the file 3d for my print ???
Here you go: www.thingiverse.com/thing:6543457
I love it! I never would have thought of using the magnets to run the current through. Very cool.
Cute!
I'm a noob. Hope you can help me. I need to know if I should leave my PLA filament loaded in the head, or should I remove the filament when I am finished 3d printing an object. Is it safe to finish printing and just leave the printer loaded with the filament. thank you for your help. BTW, what modeling program can a non-engineering type like me use that doesn't require years of training to use. Tony 😎
Hi Tony, As far as I know it's best to store your printing material in a sealed container (I use a large gallon zip loc bag and the box the filament came in) because it tends to absorb moisture and this can lead to the material not printing too well. In terms of CAD modelling software I use Fusion 360, there are a lot of free tutorials on RUclips as well as beginner tutorials on the Autodesk site. For free cad software I've heard that FreeCAD(www.freecad.org/) is pretty good although I've never used it myself.
Nice! How long did it take you to complete these?
Thank you! It took roughly 3 days to model(modeling took a few hours), print, buy materials and assemble these.
Awesome video Lexie!!!! Could you post the link or brand to the clear coat you used!! Also, can you post a link to the fusion file??

Not bad … the colors OK for some species, but I don’t like it for trout … pike, musky, Stripers Yes … Need the sizes and weights on these heads … you might have found a gold mine …
Is there any chance you could post the files for your fish heads?
Are you going to post the files? I'd tie up a few to test
