@@AnastaciaInCleveland biggest reason teenagers defect from church is independent Bible study. Teenagers are students they'll discover the Bible doesn't cooperate with the cults they were raised in.
Teenagers discover from independent Bible study that the scriptures don't support church dogma. On several issues.
We defect because even the Bible doesn't support most church dogma.
So they defect

The past is not our fault. The present is our responsibility, including clearing up any unresolved issues (trauma, pain, wounds, whatever you want to call it).
For most people you just get started and keep going. I have no mental prep. I just get up and decided it was time.

Very interesting interview. I started playing football at 13 in 2013, and I delved into it deeply. Chris Borland’s retirement never quite sat right with me, and in many ways I related to his apprehensions with the sport. It’s alarming looking back on it that I resonated so much with his sentiment at the age of 14, but it didn’t keep me from pursuing it further. I finally quit after a season of college, and I believe it had really been brewing within me for a few years. Looking back, I think I got lucky concussion-wise, but I ended up with disc herniations, a knee reconstruction, and shoulder issues along with nerve issues in my hands and feet. I am in no way anti-football, but I do believe that delaying full-contact competition is a great idea overall for injury mitigation, especially in the context of concussions. I don’t regret playing football at all, I honestly believe it sent me down a far better path than I otherwise would’ve been on sitting in my room alone on my computer, which is what I did mostly before the age of 13. So happy I stumbled upon this interview! Great work folks.
Also, I agree with his “sports specialization” point; I was a football-only kid, and had never played a sport before it. My provincial-level coaches HAMMERED the point of being multi-sport athletes, but my high school and minor football coaches at the time were more worried about the kids not being available for every practice and game. It’s important to let kids be kids, and if a kid is a great athlete and is working hard in other avenues, I don’t believe he or she should be penalized for exceeding the expectations in some ways.
Thank you so much for this feedback and for watching! We're so thrilled that you've enjoyed the episode, this is an extremely important subject to us as mental health professionals and anyone who will share their experience drives the conversation forward. Hope you enjoy the rest of the mini-series Tackling Stigma! If you've enjoyed this series, you should also check out our newest show The Circle of M with Marcus Smith II. TMS may offer benefits for certain sleep disorders, particularly those related to depression or anxiety, which can impact sleep quality. However, the efficacy of TMS for sleep disorders specifically can vary among individuals. It is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional to discuss your specific condition and determine if TMS is a suitable treatment option for you. You can reach us anytime at (720) 807-0799.

For me it was a combo of exercising a lot more, getting a lot healthier food in my body, therapy, and mindfulness...I like that mindfulness book called 30 Days to Reduce Depression by Harper Daniels.

And then there’s me with 5 concussions by the age of 11
Got concussion last practice senior year. None of the coaches took noticed. Didn't know my locker number or car I drove. 1 friend guided me to locker and showed me my car. Scary now I look back on it. I passed my street 4 times
There’s no tackle football before 8. And if you think 8 is too young for tackle football, it’s not. It’s better to learn how to safely tackle and be tackled while the game is still slow and the collisions aren’t big enough to cause much or any damage. If you start tackle football later, you set up these kids for more head and neck injuries.
I've been waiting to hear what Chris had to say after all the concussions in the NFL lately!
Thank you for listening! We're so grateful for Chris sharing his experience and take on football safety.

Facts! Men have been tricked into thinking being manly is having multiple women. It’s pushed on men that it’s ok to sow oats and live but they only want to settle with women that are untouched or young. When a man can put everything into one woman, she will do anything for him. ❤

Thanks mam for providing such a helping content 🥰😊, I need your help that how can i change my negative beliefs like I think that i shouldn't have to be wrong and for this i always try to prove other wrong and try to defend myself and at last feel embarrassed on being wrong Another one is being poor is unworthy and i always try to hide from others that i am poor because i think i will not be accepted and i feel shame for being poor If others are not enjoying your company then its not their fault its mine and this makes me feel bad
"Hi, thank you for commenting! My suggestion is to find a therapist who can help with reworking negative core beliefs. It might take some time and work, but these beliefs can be shifted!" - Lana S.
All of these labels are driving me nuts! Just be yourself, we are each individual and have strengths and weaknesses, and anyone who uses a label as an excuse needs to rethink their life. Using labels to understand and progress is different.

The key word there is "worth". All my life I've felt worthless.
I've actually thought of depression in the same way.
I got in and out of bad depressions a lot bc of my period. The thing about depression is that it can be … comfortable. and it happens suddenly. If I didn’t struggle with it for most of my life the signs would be very hard to identify.
💯 exactly and it's endless and no matter what you do it comes again and it lessons but it comes in waves and grief makes it worse

Mad respect to whomever this guest is
We are so incredibly appreciative of the vulnerability that "Dusty" embraced in making this episode. His story and first-hand experience are so valuable and important for others who are struggling. Thank you fro taking the time to give this episode a watch!
I noticed in watching this podcast and some others that the podcast hosts tend to cut off the interviewee mid-sentence and sort of prevent the listener from hearing more of their story. I would love to hear more spaces for listening to the interviewee and giving pauses and spaces in between responding to make sure the interviewee has said everything they want to say. I also notice that Dan and Andy tend to highlight their own stories and I'd love to see the focus come back more to the interviewees.
Thank you for the feedback and for giving the show a listen! We appreciate your insight and will take it to heart as we create new episodes.
You are an excellent presenter! Clear, relatable, informative, and uplifting 😊
I am my parents only child. My father wanted a boy, but my mother died when I was 4, and my father never found anyone else. He had still wanted a boy. So when I was only 13 he put me on testosterone, and told me I was going to be a boy. I loved it, it was what I always dreamed of. I had, surprisingly, a lot of friends after that. I was happy. But I always knew it was wrong. So I stopped, and my father was furious. I moved in with my friends, but they didn’t help much either. They were all for the “gender-swap”. By the grace of God I have found his true Catholic church. I always feel my body has been defiled, and I can never cure it, but I try. Dare I say that transgenderism is at equals with nazism, because the victims still have to live afterward.

There is no healthy shame because you are not the doer.
"So, the shame conversation has a few different perspectives from different orientations. Whenever I talk about shame I will usually preface with, “this is a topic that has some conflicting views.” In no way will I ever say my understanding is the “right one”, it’s what makes the most sense to me. There is some discussion around shame being an evolutionary emergency break for offensive behavior that could get us exiled from our tribe. It’s a feeling that has more power than guilt because there is an element of exposure and embarrassment usually. Theoretically, if I am behaving in ways that are offensive/harmful/damaging in a community, and my own guilt isn’t enough to stop the behavior. It’s a possibility that the community will decide I am a hazard and reject me which would likely equal death in times when we were dependent on one another for food and protection. The argument is that when we are confronted publicly, the intensity if shame might cause us to stop the behaviors and stay safe in the tribe. An additional perspective is that in early childhood, if a caregiver is physically unsafe, violent, dangerous toward the child, shame acts as a “last ditch effort” to keep the child alive by interrupting proximity seeking - “I can’t go to mommy because I am so bad”. This can be noted in disorganized attachment styles that usually harbor a lot of internal shame. This use of shame obviously causes enormous problems in later life because a shame core from early life is the “toxic shame” people refer to. In the context of “healthy shame”, I think there are times when we are the doer. Some of us act in ways that are offensive and hurtful to others. Sometimes internal guilt causes us to recognize out behavior and remedy it but sometimes this isn’t the case. IF we don’t have a toxic shame core, we can likely withstand small amounts of shame if our actions are made known to others. However, with a shame core that will likely throw is into self-esteem failure and trauma reaction. This is all theoretical and general and by no means covers the vast nuances of the human experience. Just some food for thought." - Lana
@@APNLodge Hi Lana. Thank you for this. In my experience shame and embarrassment, fear, terror, sadness, disappointment are the product of thinking and believing something that is untrue. This is very difficult for a lot of people to understand because they are sure they know what is true. They still believe in language, time and change. #byronkatie
