I got caught on Lake Erie in some pretty hefty waves. (4-5 feet). I got swamped a couple of times and both times the water drained right out. It seems the pressure of the water trying to drain out is enough to push the balls down.

Great ideas. I did modify mine with the chamfer on the ends of the pipe piece. Helps alot.

Yes I still have it. After 7 years It has held up really well. I have had no issues. No leaks, cracks or deforming. Bolts used to loosen up on the seat but I took them all out and put lock tite on them and it solved the problem.

I thank you sir! I have had so many enjoyable times on this kayak. Heading to the Allegheney River in Pa for a four day trip later this month. Sometimes the best times are doing mods, especially when they turn out well. The pwm and switches came from amazon. If you get a pwm, get one at least 60 amps. I burned up a 40 amp one. I also have a video on making the scupper plugs. I have had them in since I made them and never removed them. They work great. I hope you have alot of enjoyment in your kayak. I can imagine how great your area is for kayaking.

@@unclebilloutdoors136 thank you so much again bill I appreciate the quick comments probably just mostly kayak for the rest of the year during the winter I'll put it up on some horses and do my mods, I will go look for the making the scuppers like you did and probably do that great idea, all of your ideas are great ideas I'm an old retired UPS guy 68 now, bought a little cheap pelican to see if I like to kayaking and I like it very much I could see right away I wanted stability so I can move around when I saw a guy sitting sideways on the 13.5 on the edge I was like that's incredible, it's definitely a very heavy kayak but the wheel makes up for the heaviness Wish I could fish Erie like you do for those walleyes that's got to be too much fun, I grew up in Chicago land moved to Middle Tennessee left there as soon as I could, the owner of Jackson is a ham radio guy and I am too, every person in his family is a world class kayaker, they've been all over the United States and the world they said right here near Sparta Tennessee is the best kayaking there is We have it all Rivers , big lakes calm water fast water everything Thank you sir again appreciate it

Could be. I am not sure the diameter of a 1" or 1 1/2" coupling. The o.d. of 1 1/2" schedule 40 pvc might be close.

I tried pvc on both ends. I also tried a piece of window screen. I found that if coarse sand or other small debris got into the scupper from the top, it would clog up and not allow the plug to work properly and I had to remove the plugs to clean them quite often. The trimmer string allows any debris to pass through easily.

I'm sorry Michael I do not have a video on the trolling motor. I got a lot of ideas for the set up from videos by Dominant31. He has a series of videos that detail his set up. I pretty much did the same thing, just adapted it for my kayak. I hope that helps.

I made the bracket from a piece of 1/8" x 4" steel. I ordered it on Amazon. It was fairly easy to do using a hack saw and a dremmel tool to cut the steel. The bends were made using a vice and a propane torch. The only thing I could not do was weld the pieces together. A local mechanic shop did that for me. The youtube channel is actually Dominant31. Sorry, He shows more detail on the bracket. I just used wider material and well nuts for mounting.

I don't think you could go wrong. I haven't been in very many kayaks, but It's everything I could want.

Although I have not tried doing what you suggest, I believe duplicating the ring on the bottom would restrict the flow of water out of the plug, much as the ball seating on the ring stops water from coming up through the svupper. I saw a video that used a piece of window screen on the bottom, but that seemed it would trap sand and debris and need to be cleaned out.

@@unclebilloutdoors136 I agree, it will prevent flow in both directions. Maybe one could dremel-grind the leading edge of a bottom ring that would create a gap for downward flow. This is all, of course, if you don't have access to trimmer line. (Mine isn't cylindrical in profile).

I have been out around 3 miles from shore near Vermilion to 40-45 feet of water. Haven't gone out to the islands yet, but that may be coming.

They seem to work well for me. One tip, Bevel the inside edge of the inner peice of pvc where the ball comes up and meets it. I found this helps keep the ball from sticking in the up position.

It is a Minn Kota 30 lb thrust. I removed the head and run it through a pwm speed controller.

@@unclebilloutdoors136 happy with that size? I have the V2 and looking to add one to mine and since I am not going through the pod hole, I think the battery really is the limit. However, bigger is not always better.

@@dwaynehunt7412 I'm pretty happy with the 30 lb. I am not looking for speed too much. In calm water I can get about 3.5 mph which is fine for me. I use the motor primarily for trolling at spedds from 1.5 to 2.5 mph.

@@unclebilloutdoors136 I plan on making a mount like you have. I have seen this type on other RUclips videos and like that I can use my existing rudder setup on it.

The rod holder actually angles forward so the rods are between the back of the seat and the rear tank well. That leaves the well completely open for coolers or whatever.

@@unclebilloutdoors136 hello, great vid by the way, If the rods are behind the seat, how do you get to the cooler from the seat when you are on the water... the rods are in the way??

It makes it a little difficult if rhe rod holders are full, but I generally fish with two rods and only keep one extra in the rod holder. Not too bad to reach around to get to the cooler I can pretty much turn completely around in my seat too. Thanks.

I had to fish the wires through the hull mainly from the cutouts for the trolling motor plug and the pwm panel. Some were a bit tough to get through. A fish tape helped a lot. For the light wires, I tied a nut to some fishing line, fed it through the hole and turned the kayak on its side to get the nut to fall through to the other side. I have a minn kota 30 lb. I can get a little over 4 mph on a calm day.

@@unclebilloutdoors136 I did build a set for my back cargo area on my Lure 11.5. Oddly though the couplers I purchased didn't even come close to fitting the scupper holes on the kayak and I needed a lot of electrical tape to make them fit snugly. That being said, they seem to work well. Oh, and I had those Nerf balls around the house from a Nerf pistol my son and I use so it worked out great.

That's wierd that the scupper holes are different sizes, but I have a couple in the middle of the kayak that are bigger. I used the stock feelfree plugs in those. I experimented with cutting a groove in the coupler with my table saw and adding an o ring. Turned out I didn' t need to use it that way, but might work well for larger holes.

Thanks John. I think tinkering with a kayak is half the fun, getting it set up the way you want it. I got the totes at an Ace Hardware. They work out great. I also have some a little bigger from Lowe's, but they don't fit as nice. When are you going on your trip? Would love to go, but have some family commitments that limit my times.
