I think he has the stock blow off. Multiair engines (170hp) sound like that, the older mitos with the T-jet (155) don't have this flutter. And as a 155 owner, I'm so sad I can't do this on my mito :'(

Thats the air being fed back through the turbo after being compressed, the sound you hear is the turbo compressor “chopping” the air. People will try and tell you its compressor surge and that its really bad for your turbo but thats not exactly true. Compressor surge is when you get this noise whilst you have positive boost pressure and your foot is to the floor. This is bad for your turbo. However this noise when the engine is slowing down is fine, nothing at all to worry about in low boost applications. A blow off valve or recirc valve will make a “pssshhhh” noise as it vents the air to atmosphere (BOV) or re routes it back to the turbo intake (recirc). Hope this helps.

K&N air filter are very cheap just cost $60 only.

MrCK1982 No this isn't the venom system, this is the Cobra sport system as i didn't want it too loud all the time. You can sit at 70 on the motorway and it doesn't drone like some systems do. i love it

Think it has an air cooling device? Could be wrong

Nay. Don't bother. The only thing you get is the nice noise. The low-end torque gets worse, the top-end power is unchanged, and the fuel economy gets worse by about 1 l/100km. In hot weather it starts to suck in hot air from the top of the engine compartment and it gets even slower. After 8 months I got rid of the cone filter and fit the stock airbox again, and the difference was incredible. Way more torque at low speed, smoother power delivery and better fuel economy. I'd recommend against any type of cone filter for this car (not just the K&N). Once you remove the stock air box you are losing the tuned induction system that Alfa designed into the car and you're fitting a simple cone that K&N sell for hundreds of models with no specific tuning other than changing the mounting hardware to get it to fit on the pipe. Hence the poor throttle response. What I did fit a few months later is a K&N PANEL filter (it fits instead of the stock paper one in the stock plastic air box). This actually performs better than the stock filter - better power and economy - because you keep the stock air box (and hence induction system tuning) and snorkel (so it sucks in cold air) but you get the high flow and reusability of oiled cotton filters (like K&N and others).

you're an absolute star :D i just watched a real test with all intakes and the stock box was better on a range of different cars so i deffo agree with you on that CDA do the panel filter for 135hp MiTo's i'll get both that and K&N monitor the data and let you know if its any better or not. either way thank you so much again for a real honest opinion !!!

I haven't got that car anymore but it used to do it more when it was a cold day. It was easier to get it to do the popping when it was sat still like in the video, just build up the unburnt fuel in the exhaust and it would do it. When i was driving it done it a couple of times but mostly when it was a cold day and you let off the accelerator quickly when it was under load (going up hill) hope that helps

spluker88 you can hear it a little bit inside the car if you don't have any music on and the windows are open. it sounded better in the car though i thought. once you have it on for a couple of days though you hardly notice it at all
